@TruthfulVoice A simple knowledge of copyright law would let you know that this is for any future occurrences in which somebody may use the Metroid IP to actually make money. If Nintendo doesn't defend the IP now, it becomes increasingly harder to do it in the future.
@BaffleBlend That's probably because you've never actually created anything. These indy devs either need to develop original content or get out of the business.
And you babies need to stop crying about a business exercising their right to protect their IP. You'd do the exact same thing if you were in their shoes.
I may be wrong, but didn't Nintendo say a year or so back that they were working with AMD for the graphics chip? They pretty much always have. A Tegra powered tablet console will be expensive as crap. Doesn't sound like what Nintendo would do.
Every time they decide to go against the grain regarding marketing and launches, they end up shooting themselves in the foot. I love Nintendo and want nothing more than for them to succeed, but this deluded arrogance is getting old. This may end up being their last mistake regarding hardware, and I don't mean that in a good way.
Theory: NX will be the last official console Nintendo ever releases. Every generation from now on will just be a stronger supplemental device, making the console stronger. This makes upgrading to the new gen of Nintendo games much easier and cheaper for the consumer.
