Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Arceus - One Of The Greatest Pokémon Games Ever Made

@HXLXIII I understand what you mean. But the previous remakes brought content for both newcomers and veterans. Fire Red and Leaf Green were wildly different and with more content.

Now with the new remakes, they could've at least adapted Platinum which is better than Diamond and Pearl in every way and with MANY changes in the story, content and gameplay.

Fire Red and Leaf Green are the definitive way to play Kanto. They made it pointless to go back to the originals when you have the superior versions.

Can the same be said about the remakes? It left out Platinum content. Even if you don't think Platinum is better than the remakes, one should at least be comprehensive if someone disagrees. To say the remakes are better than Platinum is open to dispute. But it shouldn't....

@Primarina No one deserves to be attacked for this reason. If you like it, good. You should only be conscious that you are encoraging the company to do the same in future games. Don't expect any of the future remakes to be like Fire red, now that they know that they can cut content and still sell like hotcakes.

People attacking you are probably frustrated pokémon fans who are blaming on you (and all people who buy) for the overly unambitious games we've been getting

If I was that curious about the game, I would've at least waited a little to buy an used copy, that way I'll not be helping the company get a profit. I still might end up doing this.

But as I said, no one should be attacked for personal taste. I was just explaining to you why some people are complaining (they are entitled to complaining, not to to attacking anyone)

@Primarina No one is asking a game with all continents, all pokémon, all features, etc. You are attacking a straw man here. Fans are just asking for a good game.
Fire Red and Leaf Green expanded on the originals, with the addition of the amazing sevii islands. HGSS also had extra content. You see anyone hating on these games?

BDSP instead of extra content, has cut content if compared to Platinum. The Distortion World is already done in the originals, the design is ready, they just had to recreate it with 3D models. Why they didn't do it? Why not also add the Battle Frontier? Also, the obligatory exp. share isn't a valid complaint?

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

@Anti-Matter you said it correctly: YOU don't need it. Which doesn't mean OTHER people don't need it. That's why you people should have more empathy instead of saying "stop whining", try to put yourself in other people's shoes. That's called empathy.

You are entitled to like the changes, but not to be disrespectful towards others who don't feel contemplated. You should understand there's a reason why people are complaining. If you like the changes, just play the game and be happy with it, instead of trying to suppress other people's opinions, because that's what looks like you're trying to do.

@johnvboy "Looks like all the minority backlash stirred up by the highly dubious review on here, has had little effect on sales, what a shocker"

Being number 1 in the first week doesn't really mean anything. All pokemon games did that. There's still a chance this game ends up being the worst pokémon game when it comes to sales performance (which I hope happens). Let's take a look at final numbers.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

@Mia101 The old pokémon were WAY more challenging than the current games. This is unquestionable. Beating the first gym (Brock) if you chose Charmander demanded a lot of strategy in pokémon red.

"Leveling up was just more time consuming and that was always annoying."

But it's not only about leveling up. There are things called EV and IV training, that competitive trainers care about. The final stats of your pokemon depend on what pokemon you beat. That counts a lot for competitive players. And the exp. share for all kinda "breaks" this training. You must be a casual player so you don't care. But you should know some people do.

"And I do switch out my entire game after every arena, because idk if it is "inconvenient". It's fun and that's why I do it"

Good for you if you like that. But you should know not everyone is you and not everyone adopts this practice. So you should be more empathetic instead of telling people to "stop whining" just because the changes made are positive for you (but not for most people)

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

@Mia101 Heartgold and SoulSilver were not remakes of Crystal, but they had Crystal content (for example with the addition of Suicune storyline). All previous remakes had more content than the third version of the originals, except this one.

Switching out the entire team after every arena is not a very convenient thing to do. It wouldn't take them (developers) too much work to add the option of turning off the exp. share, but they didn't do it.

Don't tell me to adjust the difficulty myself. Following your logic, there's no such thing as a game too easy and it will never be a flaw of any game, you can always make the game more difficult yourself by playing with one hand, playing blinfolded, etc. No game review should ever subtract points from a game if it's too easy

I want the well balanced experience of the originals. They put the right amount of items in the right places to make the difficulty balanced. It was all well-thought process from the original developers (the amount of exp you get from every battle, the amount of potions you can get in the environment, etc), so you can use the items and play with the right amount of challenge. ILCA didn't think about that and just kept the pokemon of other trainers you battle with in the same level, even though you get a lot more of experience now.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

marcel1_1

@Mia101 It's not with extra stuff. It actually CUTS content compared to Platinum, like the distortion world, no Battle Frontier, etc.

The additions are minor tweaks and doesn't compare to what was cut, expanded underground area and pokémon following you (big nothing)

And to make matters worse, there is OBLIGATORY exp. share for all, which cannot be turned off and makes the game too easy.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

marcel1_1

@sagebrushfire you still don't get it?? If I bring 6 pokémon with me to battle Cynthia, EVERY pokémon in my team is getting leveled up when I beat the current pokémon she's using in battle, not just the pokémon of my team that beat her pokémon (like in previous games). Every pokémon of mine is getting a ***** ton of exp. from her strong pokémon that fainted, thus making the game too easy. I DON'T WANT that to happen!

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

@johnvboy you said: "The NL review just seem to be out of touch with the other reviews, and seems pretty lazy to be honest, just my opinion though."

This is called "opinion". Everyone is entitled to have one. If you disagree, that's fine. I kinda fail to see your logic here. So if a game has average score of, let's say 70, then every review should be around 70 and reviews with a score of 40 or 100 are invalid?? No game will not have scores very deviant from the average. If a game has average score of 5, there's gonna be 3's and there's gonna be 8's, even if not majority

By the way, according to metacritic there were more 6's out of 10, like from MetroGameCentral.

A quotation of a review by ArsTechnica, which doesn't provide scores for games: "Ars TechnicaNov 17, 2021
No doubt these will sell well regardless of what I say, but if you're not already dying to play these, I would save the $60 for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, due out in January."

Review in progress by Stevivor (also not scored): "StevivorNov 17, 2021
Visually, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl delivers a mixed bag. As a full remake, expectations are high, and we know Game Freak has ambitions to further the Pokémon style guide with Legends Arceus in January. However, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl go the other way. Following the more immersive 3D style of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Diamond and Pearl remakes regress to the traditional vantage point, and are more akin to the 3DS games, only in high definition, at least while exploring the world. Battles aside, it feels more like a DS to 3DS game, only crisper, rather than a DS to Switch remake. "

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

@sagebrushfire you said "You don't have to wander around with a full team of 6 pokemon so if you don't like Exp. Share, your recourse is to simply walk around with only the pokemon you want to get experience—it's quick and easy to swap others back in when you need them."

It's not that simple. Let's say I want to beat Cynthia. I can't beat her with only pokémon, because she is difficult. However, if I bring all my team with me, I'll be having all of them levelling up against my will - and that applies not only against Cynthia but in every case. Everytime I battle a trainer, I can only have a team of only 1 pokémon and beat all of their team with a single pokemon and I cannot change pokemon. This is very not convenient, can't you see that?
