Sorry but is this your first world game? This is how the world games go. Your partner grows, ages and dies. You can extend the life with evolving and items but all good things must come to an end. In fact the star upgrades you get more than make up for your rebirth.
Gym training isn't the way to go until you have the items and helper digimon, you gain more stats and moves in combat.
Also, don't compare a monster raising rpg to pokemon... totally different game types
