Given the lack of love Nintendo is showing for those of us who live in Europe, I'm starting to think they don't want me buy their products. And I would gladly buy a 3DS until the end of this year, but only if Nintendo cares to give us some decent launch dates and localization news. I mean, the DS sold extremely well here (as in everywhere else in the world), why not give a little more attention to the European market?
@Burning_Spear That's the point, if you can get past the hatred towards Patcher just because he's Patcher, in this case what he says is not entirely pointless.
@Wildfire This might be true, and Sony and MS did copy the Wiimote, for instance, but I don't see the Vita/PS3 crossplay as merely an attempt to try to do the same thing as Nintendo. Move was an attempt to copy the Wiimote, but I don't see how a feature announced before the Wii U is out can be simply an attempt to do the same thing, but anyway.
@childofacid Okay, I see your point now, and sorry if I sounded rude, but I still don't think Sony and MS are too worried right now in copying the Wii U.
@childofacid Sorry, but your comment makes no sense. What exactly is Microsoft and Sony doing "the same" as Nintendo? Do you mean the PS3/Vita crossplay? Because that's nowhere near the Wii U in terms of experience or proposition.
OK, Patcher-bashing aside, I am a little afraid that the game pad will be cumbersome and that it will take away some of the simplicity of merely sitting in your sofa and playing a game. I don't know if want to be multitasking/worring about two screens at the same time all the time when they are not aligned as in the DS. In this sense, I can see where he's coming from.
Release dates for the 3DS are pilling up for North America while we hear next to nothing on the European side. Let's hope today's Nintendo Direct changes that.
My guess is that Sony and Microsoft were not interested enough in the game, otherwise they would have come to Platinum's aid when SEGA jumped off the boat. I'm glad Nintendo took over the franchise, since it's another step towards a larger audience for the Wii U. The following months will be very interesting indeed.
It is a fair price. I also like the idea of two bundles, basic and deluxe. It gives more people the chance to get the console at launch without having to pay more for things that are not essential for the experience. Smart move.
@Tsuchinoko I see, thanks for the info! I'll try to learn more about the series and maybe play the GBA/DS games before getting this one, like you said.
Great, it will be my first Fire Emblem! I would love to play all of them in order, but I have to admit that I never got my head around the timeline thanks to the convoluted Western releases. Is this one part of a broader timeline or a stand-alone title?
@Geonjaha I'm also starting to worry about the lack of news regarding the localisation of Terry's Wonderland. It has sold so well in Japan, why not localise the damn thing already?? At the very least, it would keep the name of the series alive in the head of Western gamers until the announcement of DQ X for the West.
I guess in Europe we're kind of sensitive about this, since Nintendo overlooked the European market for so long on previous console generations. Where's our edition of Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger anyway?? And I'm talking about CARTIDGES, not some lame ROM legally emulated!
@SigourneyBeaver If this isn't merely a joke, you're comparing apples and oranges, my friend. Different products, different functionalities, there's no way you can compare it to "the lower half of a 3DS".
@Strongo9 I think you do have a point, but I still think it's quite unimpressive for a DQ. Sure, there are almost three times more DS systems out there than Wii consoles, and I guess you're right about that. (I can't understand for the life of me why Nintendo haven't waited to make this a Wii U launch title — it seems the Wii U will be a much more online oriented machine) Also, I can say that being a MMO detracts me as a fan of the series.
Must be nice to get paid to say whatever you think based on... just what you think.
"Woke up this morning thinking the 3DS XL will not impact Nintendo's overall sales. Ok, guess I worked enough for just one day. Give me my paycheck."
(By the way, I'm a consumer and I'm "compelled" by the 3DS XL. I even have waited for it, since I'm all for bigger screens and the small 3DS screen was a turn off for me after having a DSi XL.)
Frankly, these games are 0,99 cents in the App Store for a reason. They are casual timewasters, there's nothing in these games that would justify this price tag. I don't hate Angry Birds like so many gamers do, I even enjoy it, but this is a joke.
I'm interested in the game, might even buy it eventually, but I'm not crazy about the fact that Nintendo caved in to the DLC model. If I'm paying full price for a game, I want to have a full game in my hands.
Never had a portable console until I decided to buy a DSi XL, which got me hooked! I was very impressed with how sturdy it felt, not to mention the screen-size.
Afterwards, I bought a used but mint Pearl Pink Game Boy Advance SP to play the amazing library of RPGs available for the GBA. It took me a while to find the model I wanted, the backlit AGS-101, but I'm very glad I did — to me, it's one of the best, well-crafted systems I've ever had in my hands.
Now I plan to buy a 3DS XL, because after skipping the whole DS line and starting with the DSi XL, the original 3DS seems too small for me. I'm glad they decided to make it sooner than later!
Very sad news. I grew up playing SEGA games on the Mega Drive and, even though the company's best years are clearly behind it, I find that SEGA always managed to deliver high-quality products, even after they got out the console business and with some mistakes along the way. Valkyria Chronicles is a great example of that. Come what may, i'll keep supporting SEGA as long as they keep delivering good games, retail or digital.
Well, I've been attempting a kind of portable Castlevania marathon, and after playing Dawn of Sorrow on the DS, Harmony of Dissonance on the GBA, and now Aria of Sorrow also on the GBA, I can say that maybe the Metroidvania formula was a bit overused. It would be very nice to play a different kind of portable Castlevania for a change and I'm glad the developers chose to give the Metroidvania style a rest.
Since I don't have a Wii, I'll probably add this one to my wishlist when I buy a Wii U (I'm very glad they opted for backwards compatibility). Never played a Kirby game before, so it seems like a nice introduction...
@Sony_70 Interesting, but I can't find any official word about this, or if the single player mode will also require a subscription. Anyway, thanks for the info.
I never thought I would see the day when I'd have to pay a monthly fee to enjoy a Dragon Quest title. I find it very sad, since I've been loyal to the series for a long time, but there's no way I'm going to pay for a subscription.
@Sony_70 I know there won't be an offline mode, but it's still unclear to me if there will be an online single player mode. It would be nice to know if Square will have the decency to include this to the fans that are not in to MMORPGs.
I know it's a pipe dream, but it would be very nice indeed if Europe and North America could get the bundle that came out in Japan. It would be an instabuy for me, since I still don't own a 3DS.
Even though I live in Europe, my DSi XL is North American, so I got the Dsi version. Had loads of fun with it, but never managed to kill that Ballos bastard. God, how I hate him.
The 3DS is REALLY picking up steam this year. Between this, Kingdom Hearts, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D and Fire Emblem, RPG fans have a lot of good reasons to pick up a 3DS in 2012.
The only thing that annoys me about Shining Force: Sword of Hajya is that there is no exploration, which in my opinion is what makes the original Shining Force so unique among SRPGs. Nowadays it's really rare to find a SRPG that mixes traditional RPG elements so well like the original ones did.

Re: First UK Wii U Television Advertisement Breaks Cover
@PoshSnivy This is true. They certainly took their time.
Re: First UK Wii U Television Advertisement Breaks Cover
@LavaTwilight This has nothing to do with the ad being British or American. It's a bad ad, period. BTW, I'm Brazilian.
Re: First UK Wii U Television Advertisement Breaks Cover
@PinkSpider I was really embarrased when he went "pue pue pue". Seriously, I loooked around to see if I was really alone.
Anyway, that was a really unimaginative run-of-the-mill advert. I would expect Nintendo to be more creative.

@FOREST_RANGER Unfortunately, VITA is not doing good anywhere.

@SpaceKappa And Europe too, please! Not to mention Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D.
Re: Dragon Quest X Storms to Number One in Japan
These are not impressive numbers for Dragon Quest in Japan, considering that IX, for example, sold more than 2 million on pre-orders alone.
