This was a great article! Fun read. MM2 is my all time favorite video game... period. I play it about once or twice a year. Easier to do now that I have it on my iPhone. Even with all of the amazing games out nowadays, MM2 is still tops for me. Level design, boss design, weapons... and of course, the music. Its my favorite game soundtrack, too.
I was so excited when MM9 came out... and I love the music. Everything felt like a MM game should be. But the game was a little too hard for me, so I never finished it. And MM10 was ever harder... and the music sucked, imo... so I barely ever played that one. Maybe I'll have to go back and give 9 another chance since everyone is saying it's so good. I know MM games are supposed to be on the harder side... but I just hate when a game turns frustrating. I don't play video games to be frustrated. I play to have fun. As soon as it stops being fun, I lose interest. I think MM2 has the perfect balance. Not too hard, but just challenging enough. I was hoping 9 and 10 would be similar.
@Swiket — I thought I was the only one who jumps up as I enter a boss door so I can watch MM float through the entrance! Hilarious. Its so second nature to me after doing it for so many years, I don't even think about it... its just automatic.
Yes! The Mega Man games are some of the best all-time games made for the NES. In my opinion, MM2 is the best of the series, and that was my first introduction to it... I played the first MM after that. In a perfect world, if 2 was out already, I'd recommend playing that one first -- but this way you get to work up on a curve! Play MM first, realizing that the second one will be better and you get to play that one next month. Don't get me wrong, MM1 is still a great game, but they definitely improved on it with number 2 and then 3. Hope this helps!
@Adamant I've played MM many times over the years and have never been able to really get good at avoiding the Yellow Devil's pattern. It's the 2 blocks, like you mentioned, that get me every time. I have, however, beaten the game a couple times this way, without the cheat. But it's just too tempting to use that cheat after I die a few times doing it the real way! lol As far as the clone, you can use the same thunder beam cheat to kill him too -- I did it last night and got thru without dying.
Well, I got Mega Man today and I beat it today. I guess I never realized that it's a pretty short game. What makes it take a while to beat is how hard it is. Man, I was about to throw my controller more than a few times! This game is definitely near impossible to beat without cheating a little (I refer to the Thunder Beam trick... pause, unpause, pause, unpause) -- I'm glad they kept that cheat in there, because I was unable to do it with the Anniversary Collection. I guess you need more of an NES style of controller like the Wiimote is. I mean, how can you possibly beat that one-eyed rock monster without that trick? I like this game, but MM2 is definitely the better game... it's on the easier side and a lot less frustrating. Also, the music and graphics are better. Can't wait for next month! Sigh... maybe I shouldn't have beaten the game in one day? Now what am I supposed to do?
YES!!!!!!! This is def one of the best VC weeks ever -- I'm a huge Mega Man fan and have been waiting anxiously for the Blue Bomber to come to the VC. My all time fave game is Mega Man 2... but I must have them all! So, tomorrow can't come fast enough! Thank you Capcom! (Boy, I was in a VC slump for months now... not buying anything and quickly losing interest... but now I've been re-renergized!)
I gotta be honest guys, I'm getting really bored with the VC. I used to be so excited to see what was coming out every week. Now when I come to check this site it feels like a chore. I'm not saying there aren't great games on the VC and great games I've already downloaded. But for whatever reason, Ninty is holding back on so many of their proprietary games, it's beyond frustrating. Why drag this out so much? We'll buy the games no matter when they come out... it's not like they have to build anticipation for them to sell more. The positive energy I used to feel for the VC has all but been drained.
Evil. You guys are pure evil. I really wanted Wario Land! I've been waiting years for that game to come out in some form -- any chance Nintendo may remake it in color?
I hope it's not a joke! I was one of those suckers who bought the VB when it came out... and yes, it did give me headaches and blurry vision -- but I loved Wario Land! It was a great game and I would def download it if it came to the VC. But I guess we'll have to wait and see if this is an April Fool's joke............ the idea that we'd have to get 3D glasses just to play these makes me highly suspicious! ;{
And let's not forget the N64 Turok games! I loved those. And are we assuming that they'll never release Banjo-Kazooie because of the Rare/Microsoft thing? There are still PLENTY of great N64 games... it boggles my mind why Nintendo doles these out so slowly... what's the point? Just put them all on there and people will gobble them up, I guarantee you! At this rate, people will start to lose interest in the VC. It's a bad gamble on Ninty's part.
I personally love this game -- a friend gave me his used copy after he was done playing it way back in 1990 and it was my first introduction to RPG's. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan. I have the music from this game in my iTunes! Yes, it's an insanely hard game without a walkthrough (I don't know how I could have beat it back then without the book it came with! Especially that last dungeon with the endless teleporters). And yes, there are some annoying aspects of the game (I found out what "Nasak" was the hard way! And touching that damn piano!). But overall a great game that I am playing through again, 18 years later, thanks to the VC!
Hi Shrapnel109 -- The scooter will be located in the nearest body of water from whatever town you saved in. It won't necessarily be where you left it, however, so don't let that throw you! Just look around the shore. Which town did you save in?

Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
I should have known it was too good to be true -- it's my fault for getting my hopes up. F*** you, Nintendo.

Why isn't Diddy Kong Racing on your list? It's better than half the games you've picked.
