The more risk averse will be less likely to allow their subscription to expire - Nintendo have incentivized that, smart move

Hosting this data on a very resilient/redundant always on environment will have a cost. What they could do is increase slightly everyone's subscription in order to cover the cost for a period of time, for those that allow their subscription to lapse .

How about a poll, who thinks everyone should pay more to enable a cloud save buffer for non payers

I'd have thought the risk of this impacting someone is very low - switch dies within a few days after a subscription was allowed to elapse, you;d be very unlucky

The device will function in two very distinct markets, which can happily coexist albeit exclusively within this one device

Home console, where touchscreen will be irrelevant and rightly so as you want to keep game development gimmick free so as not to alienate the 3rd parties - but it will seamlessly offer mobile gaming with (hopefully) zero concern for the developer.

Mobile exclusive gaming and what is a huge array of touch specific games that can appear on the eshop - with no intent of ever being played via the dock on a big screen.
