I hate this game. Even when I will finally play it, whenever it is "really" fixed - I honestly doubt it'll be good enough to make up for all the anger, frustration, and disappointment it has ALREADY made me feel.
I was one of the FIRST backers of this game on Kickstarter. I paid $110 for this game to happen. I am waiting for a "fix" - and while I'm waiting, a DLC already came out! And there is talk of another one! Just shows how "urgent" the fix is, to the company. Priority rank: 4 out of 5.
This game shouldn't have been released for the switch at all. That's what is going on here. The fix could take half a year judging by how slowly they're moving.
What I THOUGHT I was backing: A retro style 2D Castlevania style. What I was actually backing: A ridiculously heavyweight 2.5D game.
Did you know?: The game was ready a year ago or more. The release was delayed so much.. you know why? Because the Creator's ego was offended some backers called the graphics "outdated". Maybe it's because the internet is new to him that it surprised him that it's not always good reviews. So he made sure the graphics were... "Upgraded". Ridiculous. Unnecessary. Just disappointing on so many levels... Who cares about the graphics? When I back an Indie game, I'm basically shouting: "I want good content! Graphics are secondary to me!" One has to be blind or deaf to miss this obvious point.
Now I get to see players who played on the PS4 and Xbox One satisfied well I wait for a fix to something that was supposed to work in the first place.
Pain. This game is causing me pain. I wish I'd never backed it. I wish I could get my money back, so I could sit by the sidelines and laugh at the backers, while I wait to see if it is fixed at all.
my hopes continue to be crushed
cartridges RUMORED to max at 16gb <sigh>
these rumors are too believable to simply shrug off
Nibelsnarf this. I'm gonna start preparing myself mentally for a disappointing console, yet again. this time, I aint' buying it without a proper games lineup, like I bought the wii U, which ended up gathering dust next to my PS4.
"Day one or 6 months later, what's the difference"
difference in dozens of millions of console buyers who don't want to spend money on the console 6 months from purchase date. I believe that is the majority of the market.
"No, I said I do want to see these games on the system. For portability alone."
I believe, personally, that you are in the minority here. I want to see ports period. Regardless of portability. I believe the majority of the market is the same.
"I just think you're barking up the wrong tree by trying to correlate file size to likelihood of receiving ports, when in actuality that has little to nothing to do with it."
I don't know how to better illustrate to you than I just did before: dev X creates game Y, with size Z. It will not go out of its way to reduce size from Z to Z/10 just because one new, semi-portable console, with 0 (zero) marketshare has little hdd space. Portability is easier if you can just "put the same game on switch" without adjustment of size.
@JaxonH again you continue to talk as is the wii U came with 512GB - it NEVER DID why do you even say that? the fact that you took more time & money to expand you default console - does not mean anybody else on earth wants to.
I have 32GB on wii U. that's IT. I will not upgrade it simply to make basic use of it! duh?
@JaxonH (yeah you mentioned ON POWERFUL PC BASED SYSTEMS in caps and bold. I don't see the relevance. let's compare with other consoles not "pc-based" nobody cares what its based on. I care "do games work" that's it)
I don't necessarily want the games I've already played. I want a future where: If activision/warner/any big publisher creates a game - they create a single version of that game, and make it work on all consoles.
So when destiny 2 / diablo 4 / dark souls 8 / whatever comes out - the publisher can easily release it (and WANTS to release it) on switch as well.
Sure, that might not be nintendo's plans. But let me tell you my opinion: when activision (or any AAA publisher) invest money and efforts in a game - the bigger the market, the more effort will be invested. I'd like to see Mass Effect 4 released on switch
You however, might not care. But mass effect 4's install size is rumored to go above 100gb. Don't you care? really?
Well I do. And millions others do. Those millions might make or break the Switch. Depending on whether they buy it or not. And that's where we differ in our opinions and tastes:
I want the same to be available on switch, to allow it to succeed, and to avoid the pain in the ass that the wii U has been in terms on disc space. I suffered, and still do! I just said - I want to BUY paper mario. Pay money to nintendo! and I can't! because of their stupid disc space decisions.
If they continue being stupid, they will have one less fan: me, and millions less customers: the gamers on 2016/2017
That's why I'm hurting. I don't like to see people I love hurting themselves. Nintendo are digging a hole. Unless the disc space thing is solved - by which I mean I will have space for more than 3/6 games on my console by default - the switch is doomed, in my opinion. That is my personal view. I hope you understand better.
@JaxonH I will try to speak with you: PCs? no. PS4. You know it? That is my benchmark. PS4. Not pc. okay? Now we continue: Let's see: Nintendo realize they require 3rd party for switch to sell well. That's why they released a list of all 3rd party developers supporting the platform. They even want Destiny 2 to work on Switch. Let's examine these partners - we'll start with Activision: Destiny: 40gb (no dlc's) Diablo 3: 26gb (basic) COD BO3: 54gb
Now, suppose I want to play all of these games. AND mario + zelda + mario kart. This is just 6 games. 6! It's nothing! I have 20 games installed on my ps4, including games that are larger than 20gb...
I believe this problem will be faced by many gamers, and this has potential to hurt sales terribly.
As a nintendo fan, I want to see them rise up. And as a gamer & consumer - the disc space might be a deal breaker for me, as well as millions of other people.
If you still think I'm "fighting with reality of the market" - then I have nothing else to add.
@JaxonH I'm afraid not. You cannot compare performance of microSD (even the fastest) to an actual hard drive. They are simply no match.
Now, I am glad for you that you have 500gb on you wii U... you worked for it, and paid for it. I do not want a console which requires me to work on it the minute I buy it.
I was fantasizing about a Nintendo NX which is ON PAR with the present. Not a console that immediately requires me to upgrade it... and after all the wii U fiasco? those guys appear to me to be losing their grasp on the market and on reality. they need someone young to run things over there. IMO.
@Senario dude, the year is 2017 I download most my games, and all AAA games I downloaded this past year weigh more than 32GB... sometimes more than TWICE that... Let's not lie to ourselves: nintendo needs 3rd party to succeed. And 3rd party devs will not limit their games sizes because one new console is lacking in space...
As for cartridges making downloads obsolete? I don't walk to stores. moreover, most games aren't available on all stores in my city/town/country... Download is not the future: it is the past & present
Nintendo living in denial of the market, covering their eyes again, will only lead to more of the same failures
It is the age of internet. people buy most things online, and download whatever they can.
@JaxonH dude why fight reality? 3rd party companies will not make "special" ports of all games.
for you, AND nintendo: games today are big. deal with it.
as a die-hard nintendo fan, I know how to be critical as well. and the answer is NO I do NOT want to fiddle with any of my consoles' hdd space. I want to download paper mario now. guess what? I have to go buy a whole hdd for it. thanks, but no thanks.
@JaxonH that actually sounds kind of sad, to me. Wouldn't you want to see 100GB games on nintendo switch? Wouldn't you want to see ports of call of duty for this console? That sentence you wrote, that a AAA title takes up 20GB, is perhaps true 5 years ago. It is 2016. Let's go over my AAA games and the size they take: MGS V: 54GB Bloodborne: 50GB COD BO3: 80GB
Should I even continue? These news are SAD and AWFUL. I wanna cry. I feel like Nintendo is simply driving itself off a cliff. No other way about it.
these news are simply so awful for me. I was really waiting for this console. But I will NOT EVER repeat the same mistake as I did when I bought the Wii U. I have no room at all for games. I did not buy an external hdd because the Wii U has a power problem, and you need a Y cable, and I just didn't feel like it at all. I want a console to take care of itself. I don't need to change its diapers constantly. I a console does not allow me to store many games, modern games taking up north of 70GB nowadays - this single move is the worst mistake Nintendo has done so far, ever since calling a new console in the name of an old one "Wii U" How thick-headed can Nintendo be? Only time will tell. Personally, the switch has just become a "don't buy until reviews are out" console for me.
