Re: 3D Realms' Ion Fury Brings Old-School FPS To Switch Next Month

@Fifth313ment That was my point. To make that absurd claim that parents of trans children are immediately going out and getting them castrated at the first chance is transphobic. It's a gross mischaracterisation of the situation. To support a trans child means that you might call them by their preferred pronouns, let them wear the clothes they want, get them a professional to speak to.

"yeah if you're trying to decide your child is trans at birth you have mental problems and probably shouldn't be a parent imo"

You're right though maybe I was being really uncharitable by assuming this quote was not just someone ineloquently trying to express the idea that a child should be free to determine their own gender, because that's the kind of reaching I was disagreeing with.. 🤷‍♂️

@clvr "I said it's up to the child, what is it with you and twisting every word other people say?"

I'm not. This is my position also. I'm sorry it wasn't clear.

To clarify, I was saying if for example you don't support a child who's biological sex is male saying they believe they are a girl, then you are not letting the child choose.

I wasn't trying to suggest that was your position either. I was just point out the nuance of the topic. Multiple views. I happen to believe the dev's a transphobe and the original dev comment was transphobic. I merely tried to explain why (sadly not to your satisfaction), and I why I took exception to the commenter here accusing someone else of lying and misquoting, when I don't think they were.

@clvr The original poster I was responding to misquoted the dev significantly and claimed they actually held a position on gender that it's up to the child and no parent has the right to decide. If that was actually the case then the dev wouldn't have singled out trans children. As I said in my comment, no one disagrees a parent must not force a child to be a particular gender.

If you believe that children are too young to decide that's different, I'd argue to some degree if that's your stance, you're gonna end up forcing a child to be a gender against the will of the child. But it's beside the point, the point was it's not the same claimed position the original post I responded to.

@Doktor-Mandrake you're lying about what they said. Here's what they said https://imgur.com/kiC9q8O. https://www.resetera.com/threads/ion-fury-devs-show-signs-of-transphobia-among-other-issues-update-voidpoint-apologizes-in-statement-see-threadmarks.135368/

If they had said no one has a right to choose their child's sex at birth then there would be nothing wrong with that comment. It's just a statement practically no one can disagree with. They said instead no one can choose their child is trans at birth. The implications of that statement is parents of trans children are predetermining their child is trans. That no child is actually trans, no child identifies with a gender different to their biological sex it's just some scumbag psycho parents gaslighting their children, and deciding they are going to do this at the moment of birth. It's basically the opposite implication of what you claim they said.

It was actually pretty offensive. And the company's decision to apologise but then completely u-turn was pretty embarrassing. That's what got me the most. Them grandstanding about censorship, while seemingly unaware of the difference between censorship and self-censorship. Not sure why so many people here feel the need to tell others how, when, and where they be offended by something. It's also just free speech to express offensive bros.

'The statement came after sexist and transphobic comments were made by staff in Ion Fury's official Discord. Later, homophobic language was found in Ion Fury itself. One room in the game, accessed using a noclip cheat, displayed the word "f[*]gbag". Elsewhere, face wash bottles were found to include the homophobic slur "ogay" on their packaging.

Voidpoint will now not change the ogay face wash bottles after it said it would.
Voidpoint's statement was seen as a positive response, but now it's issued a new statement that stresses the developer will not change the "ogay" face wash because "f[**]k censorship", and called the original decision a "mistake".'
