Well, I’m gonna add to the disagreement chorus ‘cause we’re all soapboxing to soapbox here I suppose. The core of it for me is that there are a lot of games on Switch that aren’t firing on all cylinders and could better realize their potential from a boost in hardware. That’s really what it boils down to for me.
Take the SNES as a comparison, a lot of those games are presented in a pixel art style that would scale and look identically at a higher resolution, they don’t look any better for it, higher resolutions just need proper scaling to maintain the presentation. And most of them run at 60fps, something like StarFox would be about it for benefitting from higher power.
With the Switch, almost every single game would present better, have a greater fidelity of play, with some combination of higher resolution or frame rate (and this would be a bigger ask, but improved texture resolution). They’re just so dang compromised across the board that I will experience the thought at some point for nearly every single game, “imagine this more realized at higher specs.” It’s not a deal breaker for Switch games (love em), but it does make the argument that “it’s the least in need of back compat of all time” a silly argument from the soapbox I’m standing on.
I also picked one up for the first time about a month ago and it’s similarly filled me with delight having the breadth of the library all there before me. That, and enough time has passed that a lot of recommendations have been parsed out and provided to sift through the whole of it. Especially with the all the “eshop is closing soon” game roundups.
@clockworktwink Idk if this is a sarcastic comment or not haha, but I really value hearing about what frame rate/resolution a game runs at and whether or not it's consistent. Especially when it comes to a multiplatform release where I like to know how the Switch version holds up to PC.
@Troll_Decimator There are studios/games that don't do microtransactions and it certainly has been restrained by consumer and some dev pushback. These are things that matter, even if they aren't listened to wholesale.
@fafonio If this is strictly speaking about digital art/goods, there doesn't seem to be any benefit in blockchain storage for the sale of these goods. Also, propping up artists via a pump and dump or money laundering scheme isn't a celebratory state of affairs. It's an ugly scheme that benefits people at the expense/swindling of others.
This is a pick up on 50%+ sale or used at some point down the line. Should be a good time when that indeterminate day comes, but can’t afford to launch day catch ‘em all.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 9th February 2022
Could this be it for Silksong to get that release date?

Re: The Super Mario Movie's Release Date And Cast Are Revealed
I wonder if Martinet will handle all the iconic lines so that it isn't a total unmitigated uncanny valley fest.
My expectations are set to "this will be bad" and my hopes are at "maybe we'll get so bad its good".
