Hey-O, this article spurred me to make an account (after years of reading) and make a lovely little comment.
Here in the U.S., I actually work in a video game/general nostalgia bait selling store and I can tell you that the above article rings absolutely true. Our game sells are constantly in flux, and though our classics usually sell the most we are hard pressed to even sell the high price classics. For example, we have three copies of Conker's BFD just sitting in our case at 100 bucks a pop. On the flip side I did sell a 250 dollar copy of Mega Man X3 so hey, anything can happen. By and large though, our biggest sells at the moment seem to come form vintage and nostalgia based items like vinyl and NES Classics. It was interesting to read about such a problem happening across the pond.
I will say though, that our clientele seems to be positively allergic to online stores. Oftentimes they'll come in asking for a game that hasn't got a physical release and are bummed about it being online only. But that might be a result of living in a southern area.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend
I'm slowly working on 100% Super Mario Odyssey. So I'll be doing that for like... 6 months. Heh heh....
