I totally agree with you all the way. However, the GC's d-pad wasn't the most amazing thing ever. Fortunately, you can buy retro controller converters now, or if you're particularly stingy like me, sometimes I buy games, and play the back up copies on my PC. For example, I recently bought cartridge copies of both Toe Jam and Earl Games for the genesis at the measly price of $6. I have a genesis at home but it's not at college, so emulation comes in handy. I even have a SNES pad to usb adapter to play older games with.

The graphics were my only real nitpick. I wasn't bothered by them really. I was just surprised.

@Zaphod Beeblebrox
The moons can be tough to collect. I haven't had time to really dedicate myself to the collection of the moons yet, but I know I'll be getting some hefty replay value when I do. Good luck.

It seems that there are several comments on the score of 7. I'd just like to point out that there isn't a standard scale by which a game is scored. Reviews are personal opinion pieces. I've been keeping up with some major game news sites for several years now, as many of you do I'm sure, and I've seen numerical values essentially lose their value. A 7 can mean something different to every person. Some gamers see it as average, and others see it as good. Yet, some gamers will buy a game that got a particular review score and see it as better or worse than the person who reviewed it in the first place.

There is one more completely original game Nintendo did, and that was Odama. I actually just picked that up recently. It's pretty cool so far, but I haven't played it much yet. Nintendo, like many other developers, does pump out big names, but big names are far and few between for the BigN. Sony and Microsoft have been very fortunate with their 3rd party relations this generation, and have several titles they can speak for on other developers' behalf. Nintendo's found a few niche games from 3rd parties, but 3rd party support has not seemed to be very successful so far despite Nintendo's popularity right now. I think that many of the new consumers, like many of Nintendo's big fans, haven't been comfortable branching out and supporting other developers.

Edit-I forgot about Chibi-Robo too.

I understand your sentiments pretty well. I won't give my opinion of the WiiWare service so far since I write reviews for WiiWare World, but there are very few releases for the VC service every week. I'm sure there are many factors that go into that besides what Nintendo wants out of it, like sorting out copyright issues. As far as the retail software library is concerned, the Wii has been plagued with Gamecube ports, PS2 ports, PSP ports and sequels and next iterations to last years/generations' games that were sequels and next iterations to last years/generations' games. Lots of the "new generation" games have been things akin to standardized tests in schools which help as many people pass as possible while ignoring the talented students. Nintendo, to quite an extent, has a strategy that I see as the "No Gamer Left Behind Act". It's not that exciting for people who can appreciate new, exciting, and good games.

Re: Datel Release Retro Controllers for Virtual Console

The raphnetshop has the expensive converter, but it is an option. I was pretty disappointed when I found that Sin & Punishment on the VC didn't work efficiently with any control option for both the CC and the GC controller, so I've drooled over the thought of having one of these converters a few times.

I'm sorry man, but I have no clue if the super multitap is compatible. You can contact retrousb though. On their homepage, click the link for the faq section, and you'll find contact information there.

To everyone else, yeah, we need an affordable N64 to GC controller adapter. There is one available, but it is very expensive.

Re: Datel Release Retro Controllers for Virtual Console

Ski_Deuce

Yeah JJ. retrousb.com is the place to go for this stuff. I recently got a SNES to GC adapter there. It works great with everything VC related except the N64 (which the CC stinks for anyway), and I can play Megaman Anniversary Collection without my thumb bumping into the c-stick mid-match against a robot master and switching my powerup! The SNES has a better d-pad for fighting games than the CC one as well, although it isn't the best.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

@deadly.by.design

Maybe one game is enough, but in either case, Samurai Showdown really only serves as an introduction to the series. If you're going to go with one, it's probably best to research and try to figure out which game is the definitive one. Plus, $9 is one high rental price.

@ Starwolf_UK

You may be right, but there are solutions. If you own a game, in most countries anyway, backups are allowed. Thus, you could play the games on your computer. There is also this really awesome site called retrousb that makes NES and SNES controller adapters for the WII and PC as well.

Re: Sonic Spinball

Ski_Deuce

I actually love this game. You can't really compare it to any traditional Sonic game, but as far as video game pinball sims go, this is up there with the best in my opinion. I might have given this game a four star rating. It's good to see a variety of opinions in these posts.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

Ski_Deuce

I really don't get it. A Samurai Shodown Anthology of every single 2D iteration is slated for release this year, and Metal Slug Anthology has been out for quite sometime, yet so many people who are following the VC closely have been eating up the releases of games in these series. Save some money guys! Buy the complete packages, so that you don't have to get each one individually and dig deeper into your pockets!

An interesting fact about this game is that the pc version was a finalist in the Open Games Competition at the Independent Games Festival in 2005. Just some food for thought.

Re: EU VC Releases - 30th May - Samurai Shodown

Ski_Deuce

Samurai Showdown may be a good title, but "Samurai Showdown Anthology", a collection of all 7 of the 2d fighters in the series, including both versions of Samurai Showdown 5, is slated for a Q4 release this year. I'm waiting for that.
