The teaser alone would have cost absurd amounts of time and money to make; That was some really fine CG and direction. I really feel like Nintendo would have announced outright if it was a port. It doesn't make sense to have only a working title and spend all that money showing it off for simply an updated version of a game, as that could cause much disappointment. Also, if it was Smash 4, wouldn't the copyright have had to be 2014-2018 instead of just 2018? Or if simply just crediting the IP itself, the copyright, if I'm correct, would have been 1999-2018. Nintendo wants a BIG game for the holiday of the Switch's second year, and Smash 5 would most certainly set sales records for the series.
@Jamotello By that, I believe they meant ports of third party games on other consoles will be possible. You were thinking of backwards compatibility. Going with x86 architecture (what the competitors and PC use), and having capable hardware would enable ports.
At this point, I think I would have preferred if Nintendo decided not to show up at E3 at all. Might have been actually cool to do, blow off the biggest gaming day in the world and continue to market with Directs whenever they choose. I see E3 becoming less and less relevant in the near future anyways. Many of the releases were leaked, and so many people are constantly connected nowadays that it doesn't seem necessary to choose a day to release info or promote games. Nintendo seriously dropped the ball in every way. Why is there not a remaster team going on at Nintendo right now? They could easily have a couple teams working on games, that would create alot of padding for scheduling releases, and could potentially bring in new buyers. Skyward Sword HD, Paper Mario and Thousand Year Door HD, Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy HD, LAST STORY HD, etc. People would have went nuts. As a proud Nintendo fan, to the point of fanboyism, I am truly concerned for their future right now. The damage might already be done.
I have an idea for Nintendo and their mobile direction: Develop a separate platform solely for mobile devices that works across Android/IOS/Windows. How it could work would basically be a portal, always online to reduce piracy, where both a respectable library of both emulated/recreated games and new first/third party titles are available. The initial application/portal might be free in order to develop interest and to expose people to the library and other Nintendo advertisements. It could either be subscription based, hopefully for a small fee, or pay per game. I'm not saying a gaming streaming service, as that is incredibly resource heavy, but allowing people to download the games and locking them unless they can make some sort of online check every so often. Might upset some people, but if the platform itself is appealing then people will use it, especially if it's initially free with a game. If Nintendo could manage to develop mobile games within this platform that adhere to their normal quality, it could become a must have for many gamers who own phones, which just about everyone does nowadays.
@whanvee In Brawl, if using a gamecube controller, if you hit the z button and hold while simultaneously using a c-smash, it will charge. Anyways! Can't wait, already have the game pre-ordered and payed for.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?
Something I haven't seen anyone bring up yet, is what if this rewards system is indicative of Nintendo's plan to possibly go full digital with the NX?

Reggie worked for Pizza Hut, not Dominos.
