@Nimious Ahhh that's what it means lol. There's a lot of terms I don't know even if I know how to do them like that one lol. I remember at E3 I think it was way back before Melee came out and they talked about that. I thought everyone knew how to do that (but then again I didn't know what it was called so how can I talk haha). And I didn't know they were taking it out of the new one, definitely hope that changes! I got to play it twice but 2 minutes isn't enough time to get a feel for the game so I didn't notice it. Hopefully enough people will say something about it to make thing put it in. Would miiverse be the best way for me to put my voice out to Nintendo about that?
@Pika2346 Lol yea there are experienced players who do it, I just find it more prefer to let people back on and keep going at it til I get that hit that DOES kill them, that's how my friends play and we joke and say edge guarders are just scared so they try to kill people as quick as they can. I'm just being a hater lol. It does take some skill to edge guard granted, but I don't think it's that much. Some people LIVE off edge guarding. I played one kid a few years ago who used kirby and literally sat at the end of the stage of final destination and wouldn't leave that spot and he mastered the trick of knocking you off then sucking you in and falling and flying back up and that was literally all he would do. Really annoying cause he would not leave that spot lol and I feel the person waiting has the upper hand compared to the attacker in certain situations. I refuse to spam or do cheap stuff like sit there shooting lasers from a distance like fox users and such, so I'll go at people sitting there even if I feel they have the upper hand. Anyway I figured out his techniques after a few close matches and just took over. He finally gave up. Then he found out I was on an 8th of shrooms the whole time. Then he really felt bad
@Nimious What does DI stand for first off, I agree with most of what you said if not all in a nice way lol. And sudden deaths, I gotta get to his comment about it first, but you if you kill yourself it's usually your own fault, and there certainly was no random damage. I guess I'm the best pro in the world cause I hardly ever kill myself (lol doubt I am the best but who knows ). Ever. Just cause of how you play with the buttons and joysticks means it isn't competitive? That's absurd. With Melee I literally sat with every character learning them and their moves against ever character. So I was never surprised by how much damage a move did. It's simply trial and error and such. I can't agree with half of what he says after reading his response to you.
@bobbypaycheque Maybe it was designed for fun, but it's still a fighting game so it was intended for competition thus it was intended to be competitive. You don't just sit there and taunt all day, you compete to win. It may not have been the sole intention because of all the weapons, and boards with stage obstacles, but there was most definitely intent for competition. They probably didn't think it would get anywhere near as competitive as it is but it did lol. The no item factor takes away the randomness. You say it was always just for fun, that's your experience. I play for fun and for competition. I like to think they made it intended for both crowds. Weapons and stuff for fun, final destination items off for competition. I would like it to be available to both without taking away from techniques. And things like wave dashing supposedly were intended to be in the game, according to an interview or something I read in a comments section in the last few weeks. I'm getting games no matter what and will have fun no matter what, but I really hope it doesn't feel like a baby version or anything. Are you getting the Wii U version or 3DS by the way? I'm getting both, and would be down to play at release if you're down. I played the Wii U version twice and it was fun but too quick to get a feel cause 2 minute timed matches with new characters in a 4 way match is not enough to give a great impression but I had fun I'll say that lol.
@bobbypaycheque That's cause pros can see when something isn't up to par. Two systems later and it continues to get less competitive? It should have more techniques and such not less. If there is landing lag now and stuff like that, that's inexcusable. A new version should be better not worse. It's not about "not getting over melee" it's about realizing something is not as good as it should be. Of course, until the game is actually released, we don't really know if the new ones WILL be worse or not.
@Senario If you're talking about edge guarding, I find it pathetic. I've fought people who will LITERALLY stay at the edge and try and knock you off and kill you at low percent and that's their whole strategy. My friends and I don't edge guard. If you get knocked off, and don't die, you get back on. We fight with honor! lol
@ACK I feel the same way. You're getting 3DS only JUST for oh my god portability of an INFERIOR version! Anyone who goes that route, have fun, I won't take it away from them, but come on. You're kidding yourself if you think smash portability is better than FAR better control options, and much bigger screen to play on. Fighting games are always better on TV. Handhelds versions are the tide-me-overs. Hmm, 6 inch screen with cramped controls, missing buttons, or gamecube controller plus my 70'HD (also 3D but doesn't matter ) on the Wii U? I'll take the 70'! Obviously that's just my set up, but most people these days have at least a 20' screen which is way bigger than the Xl. I'm getting both, but Wii U will be played far more often and for far more years. To me there are games better for handheld, and games better suited for console. Fighting is definitely console due to the fast paced action. These are all my opinions, not at all facts, not trying to make fun of anyone, like I said if you go 3DS only I hope you have a great time and will be down to play.
@Grumblevolcano Are you looking for a circle pad pro for the regular 3DS? Are they not on sale anymore where you live? They might not be where I live for all I know lol. If you are looking for one though, I have one that I used for mario kart only to make the system bigger due to cramping, and since I got an XL so I have no use for the circle pro and would sell it if you needed it. Might even have the box still but I doubt it lol.
@coolaggro When I was at Best Buy during the event, one of the employees said that they were going to have a special edition Smash Brothers 3DS XL so I would hold off and see if they announce that before you make a purchase. And remember, they waited til one more before A Link Between Worlds before confirming the U.S. release so just cause nothing has been announced yet by Nintendo doesn't mean it isn't coming. I would hold out a few months like I said, cause then you can get something I'll be jealous of lol. (I got the Link Between Worlds special so can't just throw down on another XL).
@arnoldlayne83 He/she is a kid, I think that's what they meant, when they aim at the younger kids for price. Two of the games he/she bought for their wii were skylanders and disney infinity, so that also makes me feel they are young, and not looking for the adult experience
@Daruncic Ness & Captain Falcon are both unconfirmed. However, the last Nintendo direct I think it was, they showed the Samurai Goroh assist trophy as well as the Mr.Saturn item, and I highly, HIGHLY doubt these would be the only representations of those two series, especially since they have a huge fan base and both characters have been in Smash since the original. So I'm willing to put money that they are both in the game as playable fighters.
By the way is there anyway to know if you or someone responds to me on this site? I don't check my e-mail very often and happened to check today and saw a few people wrote me which is why it took me a few da...almost a month to respond lol
The shape is fine, I really enjoy how it feels in my hands, it's the A B X Y buttons that feel mushy to me, other than that it is a fine controller and as I said I LOVE it's battery life. Sorry to hear in canada they charge you more. My gripe is I'm pretty sure GameCube controllers were cheaper when they first came out yet I feel they are better besides not being wireless (wavebird of course fills that, even though I preferred regular over the wavebird due to the added weight). The wireless may add a lot, and it was 2 generations ago so maybe controller parts cost more these days. I got 2 of my 3 pro controllers for 1/2 off at best buy when they had that sale a while back though so I really can't be complaining now can I
@Frapp Made a mistake, haven't noticed the rumble much, I read somewhere that the rumble is weak compared to the gamepad so that might have been why I didn't notice when I started using the pro more.
@Hy8ogen Non-Analog is a big thing and should be standard for one thing. I said the higher price tag for a different color was dumb, didn't argue that. I think the pro controller is decent but the buttons feel cheap and considering the PS4 controller is only $5 more and does a lot more, yea I would say the pro controller is a cheap controller. Battery life is amazing though I'll give it that. All in all it gets the job done, but Nintendo could have done more to make the controller have what I consider Nintendo quality. And I got to play the new Smash twice and can already say the GameCube is still far better for it in my opinion (and probably most others).
@JaxonH No, GameCube controllers were $35 I believe with a $10 cut when the Wavebird was released. So the $50 standard you speak of is only one generation old (now 2 I guess since the new one started). Just like it's only the second generation where Nintendo didn't compete with power despite many who claim they were always the weakest system.
@Gravedigga13 I know, you could do it on the Wii version too, it's just much easier with the super horn lol. I never had a mushroom enough times in first while having a blue shell coming for me to really practice the timing of it and never bothered to watch a youtube video showing the timing. Thanks though lol.
As I stated somewhere else about these, the price is way too high. The regular price of $49 is too high as it is for a cheap controller with no vibration or pressure sensitivity and things like that. They have an orange one I want more than the Mario Kart ones but not paying anywhere near that price.
One of my favorite things to do with green shells was on the last bridge on Yoshi's Valley on 64. I would turn to the right and shoot however many green shells I had so they would be bouncing back and forth real fast and almost unavoidable. Also DK Jungle Parkway had a bridge I did it on too. I miss the green shells of 64 in general, their timing of release felt perfect compared to other games and I had a nasty shot forward and backward. I would even shoot off walls to ricochet them into opponents cause I knew their paths so well and how they behaved.
@GC-161 Let's say Nintendo goes out of business, then you won't have any of your downloaded games I'm a physical guy, I don't have a problem with people who download, I just don't want to see physical phased out. You both brought up good points by the way.
@Spanjard That's not a glitch, it just takes a little skill, if you jump off at the right time and angle you can skip a lot of the track. Current Mario Kart games don't allow this, they will send Lakitu after you before you get to take any short cuts like this one
Blooper is cool but the ink doesn't mess up your driving most of the time and let's be honest in single player it's absolutely useless lol the CPU doesn't need to see to drive.
Anybody else miss the boo item that stole your opponents item? I think it would be great online. Get rid of the pretty much useless squid and bring back the boo lol.
@Koapa Even if the other stuff is $10, I would rather pay for any of those things than get the free poster lol. But since I live in florida I will settle for the free poster
@rjejr never heard of Tru is it in the U.S.? And I used the money from returning my water damaged 3ds xl to pay for dk in full as well as picked up Pokémon x back in November lol. Got $90 for it.
Saw the movie today and like everything it was awesome! Made me really want to get this game even though I know it won't be as good as Lego city undercover.

I don't mind beef so much as long as its at least a little above PS3, the main thing stopping me from getting a Wii U at launch is the fact that they said the black won't be available, which is a huge mistake on their part. People already know its coming so they will hold off, nobody is gonna buy a white one, then return it for a black one, (most people at least), so they will wait like I am. Honestly I think it would be even better if they had a bunch of colors like the N64 and GameCube, I would love a see through orange Wii U or something similar colored. You never go wrong with options, and shiny colors attracts many eyes. Shiny shiny!
