We are reaching the fourth wave here soon. When a product is selling out through preorders within the first 20 minutes of it opening, that's a problem. No, that's a big issue in fact. And when you tie content in games to these figurines you can't "produce" enough of, that's noodles. Straight and simple. People like to complain about on-disc dlc, well this is essentially that. I've been to quite a few stores around my area and they all have their Marios and Peaches and DK.
And come on, they're under producing amiibos to make sure they have no backstock like they do with Wii's and games. Sm4sh sold nearly 3mil and I can walk in any store and buy that fine. But why would I compare the manufacturing of games and little NFC toys? Not like games incur more manufacturing costs...
Why are there so many apologists over this shortage? Don't tell me port strikes and other crap. They knew this would be a hot ticket item and they sure as hell still pump out the regular amiibos. No, this is them drumming up false shortages to create demand. I have content locked away that I can't use because of this. Sure is cool knowing I could use powers in Rainbow Curse!
Also, gold Mario is about as ridiculous of a limited edition as you can get. No different pose, nothing at all. Except the sweet look of gold spray paint. Looks like they asked the Razzies how they make their awards.
Well, since the dev is in here actually, I went ahead and made an account to reply. Life comes first, take care of that. If you ever get to release, that'd be tight as I think it looks good.
