@BloodNinja I’m not worried about COVID. I’m more worried about people spreading bad science and insisting other people follow along. Another link to consider:

https://uwaterloo.ca/news/media/study-supports-widespread-use-better-masks-curb-covid-19

“Engineering researchers at the University of Waterloo performed experiments using a mannequin to simulate a seated person breathing in a large room. The studies showed a significant buildup over time of aerosol droplets – exhaled droplets so tiny they remain suspended and travel through the air – despite the use of common cloth and blue surgical masks.”

“The study showed that most common masks, primarily due to problems with fit, filter about 10 per cent of exhaled aerosol droplets. The remaining aerosols are redirected, mostly out the top of the mask where it fits over the nose, and escape into the ambient air unfiltered.”

A standard cloth mask allows 90% of exhaled aerosols to disperse into the air. And considering the huge viral loads of recent COVID variants, that means that the mask literally does you no good—it’s just a placebo. If someone IS infected, and they are breathing, they are spreading the virus, and a cloth mask won’t stop it. The only surefire way to keep from contracting COVID is to literally live out the rest of your life sheltered, and that’s no way to live.

@Entrr_username Did you not read the article I linked?

“Single-layer cloth masks, which many people prefer for comfort and style, can block larger droplets carrying the virus, but aren’t as effective in blocking smaller aerosols or particles carrying the virus, according to infectious-disease specialists.”

It doesn’t matter what virus or variant we’re talking about—what matters are the aerosols the virus is attached to. Smaller aerosols can easily penetrate through cloth masks, making them useless against this and any other viral disease. It’s basic science.
