I don't think you guys need to hate on IxC. He has a valid point, that that the new generation of gamers just don't understand. But that's ok too because gaming has changed a lot since the 80's and 90's. So let me try and explain. Back then the variety of good games was nill. You had a ton of generic rehashes (Disney platformers, there was like 30 of them), games that were innovative but badly playable (take doom for example. It defined the fps genera but from a gameplay viewpoint it was buggy, the controls were awkward, and 90% of the time you had no clue where you had to go or what to do and there were more glitches than a Bethesda game. If Doom released after the fps genera was established and was on par for the graphics of the time the game would have been considered a failure.) then there would be that one or two games a YEAR that was really good. So all year we would wait and only two games out of like 6 that release all year were worth buying. I remember holiday seasons where only three games were going to be released and I didn't care for any of them. Nowadays you have 8-12 games come out during the holidays and your frantically trying to get them all. Back on the day there just wasn't many good games so we held onto them and played the same ones for months if not years. So I guess for retro gamers who played during that time we expect that kind of replay value to be included in the original cost, and for game devs to work on more great games then to continue to work on the few great ones we already had. But times have changed and now there are ao many great games that come out all the time, you need extra content to come back to the games that have been out for a while. But you have to look at it from the perspective of older gamers. In our day the game market was saturated with generic crappy rehashes, now the market is saturated with great games. I'm neutral to DLC. But looking at the perspective of what IxC is saying I agree with him, back in the day we expected games to be made and the next project worked on so we would hopefully get another great game out of the sludge of crappy games and while we waited we also expected the game to have replay value for the original price, but I also know that today's gamers already have so many great games they need DLC to have replay value for their older games. Different generations, different experiences, different expectations. Doesn't mean you have to call his opinion into question and yell at him or be rude. I'm actually surprised to see this coming from Nintendo fans. We all have opinions and should have enough respect to not be mean and rude towards people who's opinions differ from our own.
Edit: I forgot to sum up my original point lol so back then we had the mentality of the games we buy, we will still be playing them in ten years because the selection will still be the same. That's just how we thought when buying a game, we held onto the few great games and expected to play them for a long long time. Someone said that why care about still playing games that are ten years old when there will be new great games to play, well that's true but back then we never knew when the next great game was coming out so we had to get all we could out of the games we had. So again, different generations of gamers are going to think differently. And by definition if you have DLC that adds content to a game and you have one copy with the DLC and one without then a copy is incomplete because one has less content, making the experience incomplete. I don't think that IxC was implying that MK8 is an incomplete game not worth $60 but that in 10 years retro gamers who buy it for the first time won't be able to have the same experience we did. I'm sure in the future you want to show your children the games of your generation just like we do today. But our kids can have the exact same experience we had, and playing old games we loved with our kids is the greatest feeling in the world . Better than even playing the new games with them because your sharing your childhood with your children.
Sorry for the feint wall of text, but it's a really complicated issue.
