I like that there's groups that are doing things like this; Preserving media history. It's been happening with films and music for quite some time, it's about time we started archiving great bits of gaming history for future generations to enjoy!

Re: First Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver footage appears

Nintendo has shown multiple times that they don't mind remaking old (Pokemon) games with improved graphics. With that in mind, how come the Powers that Be don't see fit to make remakes of other popular games, of the old school variety. (I'm looking at you, Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.)

I know that Pokemon has a rabid fan-following, so it's a no brainer to remake them. But, come on Nintendo, if you're going to recycle old games, go for more classics! Punch Out!! is proving a huge success, so... ya know... throw us a bone here. _

@ Cheesy:
Darn skippy! I'm glad someone else is on my side. _ I'd rather save up and spend a moderate amount of points on something unique, rather than save up a MONUMENTAL amount of points on a variation of something I already have.

Enough with the DS "special editions". They're cool to look at, but more than likely the people that would appreciate them the most are the people who've already got a DS!

Re: The NintendoPhone: Not Happening, Says Reggie

With some internet trickery and an R4 card, you can make "free" local and international calls using your DS and it's Wi-Fi, mic, and speaker set-up. (Similar to Skype.) Totally unofficial, most likely illegal, but definitely possible.

Nintendo wouldn't have to make a brand new "system", just offer a game card with the appropriate program on it to make it happen.

(I don't want to post any direct links to these videos, but if you search YouTube for "DS Phone" you can see some examples of these hacks.)

Re: Nostalgia

It's always nice to see a new RPG that's not a part of an already exsisting franchise. And by the looks of this game, it seems to be packed with fan service from the gaming days of yore.

Re: Talking Point: About "The Waggle"

My two cents;
First, I disagree about the quote "In the majority of cases the only purpose of analogue control is to provide some kind of unnecessary incremental movement animation for a character in a 3D action game. The only places it really benefits the player is in flight sims and driving games"
The analogue control stick makes navigating a 3-D space SO much easier, reguardless of the environment. Have you tried playing Mario 64 DS? HORRIBLE with the D-pad. The control stick isn't just there to "provide some kind of unnecessary incremental movement animation for a character in a 3D action game", it's to offer a GREATER range of movement in a 3-D environment, giving you not only up, down, left, and right, but a full 360 degree range of movement.

My second opinion is that, in some Wii games, motion control does inteed seem natural. You're right, in Wii Tennis it makes sense to wave the remote. And since it's something that you'll only be playing for short spurts anyway, it doesn't really matter how conventional it is. But, when I had to flick the remote every time I wanted Link to swing his sword or, even worse, make complex gestures to pull off combo attacks in Twilight Princess, that's a different story. Some games, you're in it for the "long-haul", and to have a traditional controller option would be welcomed. Developers should use their noggin.

Re: Castlevania: The Nintendo Years

I very recently got into the Castlevania series, and it's all thanks to the Virtual Console and Super Castlevania. Now I'm hooked. Thank goodness there's a plethora of titles for me to sink my fangs into. (Couldn't resist.)

Ohhhh, I really did think it was an April Fool's Day joke when I typed in my favorite web site's address and was greeted with a splash of new colors! It's going to take me a bit to get used to the new design, but it's already starting to grow on me. Good job guys! _
