@1UP_MARIO Yeah they look similar. So what?! Lots of people liked Smash 4's art style so they stuck it. Does a game absolutely have to have a different art style than its predecessor to be considered a sequel and not a port? No! You can't call it a port if the gameplay changed as much as it did. There's a whole bunch of new elements to it such as directional air dashes, perfect shields, short hops, and now your punished if you dodge too much. Not to mention things like the map of the off screen areas, and scores after kills. Other changes include: you can kill assist trophies, final smashes are quicker, most if not all characters have been changed in some way (whether it be a whole new move set or something small like the shieka chest in Kirby's stone ability), and the damage ratio is shorter when there's less players (which also means there's decimal points in the damage). Also like many other people have said it's on a whole new engine which means they had to rebuild almost everything from the ground up! And since they didn't use the same assets, by definition, it is not a port.
You can choose not to buy the game but don't invalidate all of Sakurai and the rest of the team's hard work by calling it a port. They did everything they could to make the fans happy (and there's probably even more surprises like new characters on the way) and it still isn't enough for some people!
@DaLoneSheep Yeah even if they wanted to combine them I highly doubt that they could. Once again I'm just holding on to that tiny shred of hope that they can and they do
@DaLoneSheep Do you know if the number of hours we've played will be merged? That's what I'm worried about because I'd prefer not to have two separate timers for what are essentially the same game. I doubt that they will merge like that but I really hope so.
