Re: Mario Kart 64

I never had a SNES so never really played the first game until recent, but my friend had the N64 version and boy is that some fun multiplayer. Yes it has its flaws like narrow tracks, poor handling and pixelated sprites on 3d tracks but that doesnt stop it from being fun!
Its my fav Mario Kart for that reason, plus nostalgia. Although MKDS is an amazing game, u cant beat playing on a big screen with your friends. Cant wait for the Wii version as I havent heard to much good about Double Dash

Just downloaded this on my Wii recently, just had a really quick playtrhough so cant really judge but it seems fun. Bearing in mind I couldnt even get past the second level in Revenge of Shinobi lol (but that was many years ago).
Speaking of Revenge, Yuzo didnt do the music for this game which doesnt please me but hey, I'll give it a chance

This game was fun as hell for me as a kid, and combining it with S&K just puts the icing on the cake. Music plays a big part for me in games, not just cause I love music in general but because it gives the game a better feel overall. And boy did this game have great music (Hydrocity Zone(both Acts), Icecap Zone, and Lava Reef (if u include S&K)

I loved this game alot as a kid and was really proud when I beat it (being that there aint no save states or nothing) And I never beat the first game without using the cheat.
I prefer Sonic 3 & Knuckles (the true Sonic 3!) over this and this is a tough game to top.
Easily 5 stars.

Legend of a game. Catchy tunes, simple but fun gameplay, but as TwinCross above me said, the 50hz version is a shambles. Although on my pal MegaDrive as a kid I was oblivious to the difference between it and the original speed.
No need for me to purchase this or the others as I have Mega Collection

I really dont know where they went wrong with this game it could have been so much different!
First off, they got rid of Max! and replacing him with some crusty old robot. not a game defining factor but that ticked me off nonetheless.
Then we have the music, that grainy industrial noise! Tracks like Bulldozer, what where they thinking?
And finally the gameplay, they brought in some nice new elements such as rolling, running & using specials with weapons. BUT, the hit detection is quite poor and the sound effect response times are laughable.
I think ill stop there, but I could say plenty more.

I really dont know what to say about this game that hasnt been said already, as far as 16 bit games go its top draw! Even to this day it never gets boring, the multiplayer fun is second to none. Try playing on Mania difficulty with a friend (madness).
The music was just as good as the gameplay (if not better) and thats saying something!
I loved playing with Max because of his brutal power and variety of moves (although I equally like using Axel as Grand Uppa! is lethal)
Okay im just babbling on now. 5 Stars

I've never played the first game but from what I heard, its not my kinda thing. This one however I loved as a kid (still remember renting it from blockbusters and not giving it back lol still got the shiny RENTED sticker on it)
Great music to go with the funky theme. Loved the RPG like elements such as talking to people and stuff, i thought that made it stand out from other platformers. It might have been generic gameplay-wise but the above mentioned points far than make up for it for me. Or maybe I just need to rub the nostalgia dust out of my eyes.

So much nostalgia with this game right here. Although it has its flaws like occasionally unresponsive commands and hit detection, it's multiplayer co-op at its best. Great soundtrack too!

I would've given it 5 stars if it wasnt for the flaws mentioned above.

Amazing game for its time although I dont think it holds up as well as the 2nd game.
I do prefer the soundtrack to the first game out of all 3 which I know alot of people would disagree with.
