Re: Review: A Monsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots (WiiWare)

Glad to see the camera issue is easily avoided. Always nice to see DEVS speak up. Especially about something like this. Too bad they didn't speak sooner as there seem to be a number of posts before, that have already decided against the purchase, and I doubt everyone reads the posts that far down.

Memory game with hot anime chicks...hard to imagine people would pay money for a simple memory game that there are many free versions of on the web...they should at least have the girls do something naughty when you do well...maybe there will be an unlockable mode where they all get together...wishful thinking...as someone else said...boooooring!

Re: Review: Super C (Virtual Console / NES)

I wish they would RELEASE THE ORIGINAL ON VC ALREADY. I no longer have an NES and that was a really fun game aside feeling a bit too hard at times. But as everyone seems to know the 30 life Konami code that made the game just right.

Re: Review: Evasive Space (WiiWare)

I really don't feel this game was fairly treated here.
Though this game is not without it's quirks, obviously the main point of contention for many is the controls. The first two upgrades for your ship are a shield that let's you skid off walls and a magnet pickup that let's you avoid getting too close to the walls making the controls feel much more forgiving. The passageways are so narrow, considering your ship speed (which increases with later upgrades), that even with analog stick controls I could see many being frustrated in the first two hours of the game. Each upgrade makes this game more fun and I think the main problem is that it takes too long to get them. After having gotten all the upgrades I even found going to back to the earlier levels for leaderboard times pretty fun. I currently hold several first place times and a number of top 5's and I don't by any means consider myself to be a wunderkind gamer, making me think that probably not many people bought this. If you were turned off from buying this game because of this review, I urge you to give it a second thought. Just accept that it's a little tough at the beginning till you pick up some upgrade diodes and you'll find yourself having a pretty good time thereafter.

I just don't get it...the big N supposedly screens what sells in the wii shop. Not every game is bound to be great but do they really make anything on stuff like this? With or without a review I can't imagine that anyone would look at this game and not immediately think that it's complete garbage.

Re: Review: Dive: The Medes Islands Secret (WiiWare)

The glitches don't affect any of the game's treasures, relics, treasure chests or dolphin statues. They only affect a few of the rubies of which there are about 30-40 in each level. There are 413 things to collect and may be 3 or 4 which cannot (they seem to be surrounded by invisible barrier). I've found that if I restart the level I may be able to grab those things but I haven't verified that for all rubies. While this doesn't detract much from the overall experience, an update would be nice.

Re: Heavy Fire Rains Down on WiiWare on Monday

Fitting music and co-op for 5 bucks. sounds good to me. hopefully there are leader boards but that won't make or break it for me. My real concern is its length. The weapon upgrading should help replay-ability a little bit, but I hope things like head-shots or shooting limbs before offing an enemy alter the score so there is something to chase. Also if there are difficulty settings I hope they are based on extra enemies or their placement. It's such a lazy attempt to lengthen a game when the difference of a difficulty setting is based on having less health or lives at the start.

Re: Review: Groovin' Blocks (WiiWare)

MikeyMikeMike

The simple fact that this game has a color blind mode which converts all pieces into shapes warrants a big thumbs up from me. I'm generally like games of this type but my first question is always will I be able to play it. The lighting of already similar colored pieces in Rotohex or the shadows cast on already dark colored pieces next to other dark colored pieces in the middle of a Cubello makes it impossible for me to play them (I particularly like the idea behind rotohex and it ruins what would otherwise be a great game for me). Thank you Groovin Blocks. The sound integration to an alrealdy established puzzle idea works great and is generally quite engaging. My biggest criticism is that the difficulty of obtaining stars in the second and third difficulty settings (needed to unlock stages) makes a huge leap from the casual setting with nothing in between. I have a feeling that many people may give up on reaching the harder levels around half way through.

Re: Get Physical Next Friday with Toribash: Violence Perfected

MikeyMikeMike

Interesting game, relatively complex...Just downloaded it about 20 mins ago on PC for FREE though so I'm not sure why anyone would pay 10 bucks for this. Easy requirements from the computer too so I don't see a reason for a console version where people don't have to worry about their system being up to par. As the game is far from simple I can't even imagine a "Hey we'll pay for his ninty game so he doesn't have to touch my computer" rationale as little kids will doubtfully play this...

Re: Review: Jett Rocket (WiiWare)

@ Waveboy
Obviously when I said that it was an exaggeration, since I'm apparently a "soccer mom" I must "not get it." I had actually been quoting Daemon Haetfield of IGN in his review of Mushroom Men when I said that, and yes, he was also exaggerating. Furthermore if you like the waggle that's great, I said there should be an option for a button though for those of us that do not. Considering that the primary buttons of the wiimote and the nunchuk are basically unused here, I think it's a shame. And yes, I think that Mario Galaxy should have included the same. The fact that it is an overall good game does not mean everything was done perfectly. Maybe perfect for some, but options are always welcomed, why do you think reviewers on sites such as these praise the inclusion of additional controller options, button mapping, or selectable variants. Slamming enemies can be satisfying for a while, but at times it gets tiresome. Also I find it rather funny that you are defending a game you stated that you've never played, at least when you posted that comment as I can see you've recently changed your mind. By the way, my first system was an Atari, so no, this isn't the first game I've played.

Re: Jett Rocket

MikeyMikeMike

While this is overall a good game I have certain gripes that I think are worth mentioning.
1) While the waggle used for charging the jet pack, moving the ski lift, rotating platforms, dashing enemies, throwing bombs, and pushing buttons is responsive...there is no reason why the use of a button is not an option. I'd say more but we all know the rant. DEVS, are you listening, many of us don't like waggle when there are free buttons available, how many times do we have to say this.
2) The camera centering button should be the bottom of the dpad rather than the top. We all know already that the top of the dpad is the hardest button to reach on the wiimote.
3) The game does not play directly off of an SD card, it has to be on the system memory...Considering the well known shortage of this memory and the fact that the wii uses it for caching (some games won't even load if you have too much stuff on the system memory), this is a major gripe. Of all the games on VC and Wiiware I've downloaded, only one other has this issue.
Minor gripes:
1) The use of the - button for jumping off the jetboard while functional is odd considering B and Z are available.
2) Occasional camera issues: Sawblade Canyon has two very obvious ones. One is when you cross the circular platform you end up running towards yourself. The other is when your backtracking from the top button and you cannot look towards the water (where the extra life is), and further when you approach the telescope and your forced to run towards yourself again jumping blindly towards the telescope. There are others but this makes my point.

On the positive side of things the looks and sounds great, smooth frame rate, offers some variety like the jetski, jetboard, and parachute. But without a doubt, my one BIGGEST COMPLAINT is forcing me to WAGGLE non stop (thank god it's at least responsive). I'm not against it being there, I am against not having other options. Some may enjoy it but for many of us it is a constant and bothersome nuisance.
