Did I just create an Account to be part of this conversation?
You bet I did!

I have mixed feelings about the games.
I think they are great for first time players. But for anyone who has already played them on the DS, there is nothing really cool or new here.

I made a little pro and con list for these games:

Pro:

  • Pokemon following you (some of them look sooo cute! Like Riolu trying to keep up with you, this has been way better implemented than in Sw/Sh)
  • the new Underground with online function
  • updated Pokemon animations
  • Bibarel/Bidoof is still a HM Slave
  • certain HM animations are really cool, like the realistic looking Bibarel on which you surf
  • putting HMs on the Poketch, so you dont need a HM Slave anymore

Cons:

  • feels already played, not much new content
  • easy to overlevel your team from the beginning
  • feels often buggy (game freezes for a split second when encountering a wild pokemon, starting a fight with a trainer you first zoom in and then its all of a sudden zoomed out before the fight starts, there is even a character you can walk through like a Ghost on Iron island, and cloning is possible again)
  • controlling your character and walking around feels sometimes quite uneasy
  • no distortion world... I think that was the biggest highlight in Gen 4 and they didn't bring it back
  • The graphics feel off sometimes. While many things are 3D, many platforms, buttons, etc. are only 2D sprites and it shows
  • GWS is still not accessible and nobody really knows much about it... really?

Im sure if I think a bit longer, I will find more pros and cons, but clearly for me the cons are overwhelming the pros.
And this is just sad
