I was having the same trouble as PJOReilly (which I will never stop thanking for this article). I have completed the game 100% twice. The first time in normal mode, the second time in hard mode. Now I'm playing it for the third time to learn speed running. Despite 70 hours of play, I still had problems with midair speedboost. To do the same I hit the L button to stop rolling before the B button (instead of Y+B). But that wastes a lot of time and Samus drops down a bit. It's not a spoiler. The community is useful for sharing the discoveries that each of us makes while playing. Thanks again!
