Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

I don't get the argument about porting a Wii game on the Switch, the game is 10 bucks more than what it originaly cost, that was counting developping the game, making the art, the levels, the animation, etc etc... But porting it cost more than the original product did ? And also, Mario 3D All Stars came out not even a year ago, 3 games one from N64, one from the GC and one from the Wii, but it's 60 bucks (ans it was already a lot) so how come you can get 3 games for 60 but then 1 port for the same price is ''fair'' because porting Wii Games is hard ? I don't get it. At elast Link's Awakening completely redone the art.

@Ogbert And then you get the problem that BOTW is a game with exploration as its center as well but doesn't play at all like a Metroidvania ! While Fallen Order does !

I feel the comparison to films is quite unfair, the problem you desribe with game genre can be seen in other medium as well, LOGAN was a super hero action thriller western, Raimi's Spider-Man were like action romantic super hero drama, there's sci fi horror, sci fi action, sci fi action horror thrillers etc etc... It's just very very broad terms and I'm not a big fan of the concept but it's still useful. I feel like it's the same thing with video games, FPS is a vague term but at least you know it plays in the first person and if it is something you have trouble with, now you know. If you're absolutely not into the way FromSoftware does their action RPG well a game being branded ''Soulslike'' will probably not be your cup of tea.

Re: Feature: Developers Respond To The Recent Twitter Furore Over The Definition Of 'Game Dev'

I work in film as a VFX Artist and even tho I'm an integral part of the film making process, I wouldn't call myself a filmmaker just like actors, sound designer or prop master aren't filmmakers but they're part of the process of film making. Maybe that's why I feel like calling a QA tester a ''game dev'' weird, they're an integral part of developping game but I wouldn't call them Game devs and that's fine, 3D artists, Sound artists, Testers, Animator etc are just that, add Gale in front of it if you want. But all in all, I really don't care what people call themselves as long as they're not trying to decieve by doing so. I feel like a lot of the heat from the debate came from the weird conclusion that if QA/Testers are not Game Devs then they matter less and that by including them in the ''Game Dev'' spectrum it was a kind of recognition of their work. I don't know...
