This was seriously unexpected. I thought we would have to wait until 2010. Good thing it's finally on the Virtual Console. I remember this game when I was a child and I'll be able to relive it.
This game certantly does NOT deserve an 9/10. Regardless of what you people say, the game has been massively dumb down just to get on the Wii. Now you peole might say that I'm being unapperative, but this is Activision here. I may be a Wii/DS-only owner, but I don't put up with crappy ports llike this.
I know IGN review is messy, but it tells the truth. This game cannot be properly ported to the Wii without massive sacerfices.
Then in case you know, you'll probably wonder why I bought the Nintendo Wii version of Sonic Unleashed? It has two missing places, lacks DLC, and runs at 30FPS. Well because they put gameplay over graphics in the Wii version and I can consider that an true muti-platform game.
Anything that is not the exact same or better then it's PS3/360 counterpartners should be a no-go here.
I'm sorry for ranting on this, but this game arrives too late for me to accept it being dumb-down like this.
Here's some suggestion EA Sports if you want a better reputation with the Nintendo Wii fans:
1. Don't blame you're failing on Nintendo. Whining to Nintendo about it don't fix strawberries.
2. Make games that we want. Most of your games are considered good, but most of them are games we could care less about.
3. Adversite the game: You do realize if you don't adversite, it will bomb. Start doing that for god sake!
@Hardy83: Nintendo deserves absolutely nothing of the blame. They didn't make the game and does an excellent job of adversiting their games. That's why games sell so well when it comes to them.
@timp29: Let's hope you're right about the 2nd paragraph.
However, no. Even if the creator of those older Disney or Rare games die, that won't mean a flip. We'll still have a problem getting these games on the Virtual Console. We should be lucky here. Also, I remember making a thread saying that the man has died so that means the game could come to the Virtual Console. Many people disagree, However, that probably didn't prevent it's Virtual Console release. Remember, this is an exception here, so we need to take advantage of the game sales by trying to convince as much people to buy the game so we can see more licensed games on the Virtual Console.
I told you guys that the game would possibly see an Virtual Console release! Now I'm so excited.
While most licensed games will still have a difficult time seeing an Virtual Console release, this game made it all more likely.
Here's to hoping to more licensing issues solved! And I thank Nintendo, Sega, and most importantly, the Jackson Family for making this possible. I'll download it regardless of quality.
This also helps Earthbound's chance of being released. If Micheal Jackson can have a game on the Virtual Console, then Nintendo has no more reason to not put the game on the Virtual Console.
@soniczelda dude: If the game is never coming, why do we have Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker on the horizon for a Virtual Console release?
If Sega can put a licensed game on the Virtual Console which actually had legal issues that could have prevented it's release, then there is no reason for Nintendo not to release the game on the Virtual Console. They have to do it.
On top of that, while NOA said themself that the game ESRB rating was a mistake, they still have it on, probably proving that it wasn't a mistake after all and they are going to release it. Also, it is a Nintendo franchise and still is, making it's release likely if not guaranteen.
Also, Nintendo made no official confirmation that the game was not coming. They promised and I believe they will deliever.
I rest my case, me an Kurachi will never change our minds about it's VC release.
Personally, I hope Modern Warfare Reflex bombs, because the Wii verision of Call of Duty will never be equal to the HD versions. So let's hope for no more Call of Duty.
Less inferior versions of a HD game ported to the Wii = a better future for the Wii.
Althought none except Family Card Games and Fighting Street really interest me, I'm going to call it a good week. Why? We got back-to-back mutiple Virtual Console weeks! That's fantastic news considering that we've haven't received one since September of last year.
I really hope this means more two-game week for the Virtual Console, but knowing Nintendo, we might not get a game next week for the Virtual Console.
@brooks83: I wouldn't say NOA is stepping up, but it has improved. But here's to hoping for more frequent two-game weeks!
I remember this article, so I'm going to disucss on it.
My answer is no, Nintendo has not neglected the core audience. Sure they are more casual then earlier generation, but they haven't neglected us. In fact, I think the only part where Nintendo actually neglected it's fans is in the Virtual Console.
Now for why I think Nintendo isn't neglecting the core audience. We have tons of solid games made for core players. 3rd party support is decent. But most importantly, Nintendo still make the best game. I consider Super Mario Galaxy to be absolutely flawless!
@WhoKnew: Everyone lose money at some point, I understand that they are a business, but releasing the game on the Virtual Console. and turning it into a series can benefit them in the long-term.
Just because they lose money initally does mean they'll go bankrupt because of one game.
If NOA didn't care, we wouldn't have and ESRB rating in the first place. And while NOA claim this as an mistake, I believe they have a reason for Earthbound's ESRB rating.
I bet that if the lack of Nintendo games on the North American Virtual Console coming out recently has a reason, it might be because they are trying to get the game onto the Virtual Console.
While I do think the arguement should end here, we'll never know the truth about it's state until A) Earthbound is removed from the ESRB ratings (It's still on) or B) The game is released on the Virtual Console.
I can't call an official end because when you think about it, we really don't know what going to happen with the game.
@Bass X0: So they're basically trying to give it's Virtual Console fans the middle finger? That could severely piss off Nintendo of Japan, because they actually cares about the Virtual Console to the point that they will demand NOA to release the game on there Virtual Console.
Just to let them know, I prefer the original to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I see no point in the game not being released.
Let's say Earthbound was released in Japan, Korea, Australia, and Europe after clearing all copyright issues, but NOA refuse. That will prove they don't care.
I just realize something. Maybe Earthbound has to do with the lack of North American Nintendo's Virtual Console release? If not that, then I don't know.
From looking at the character roster, this might be my 2nd Virtual Console game that is fighting if the game is as good if not better then Super Street Fighter II: The New Challenger.
I remember playing this game as a child and I'm so glad it's coming to the Virtual Console. I cannot wait for it's Virtual Console release. Thanks Capcom for finally deciding to release the game on the Virtual Console!
I would love to experience what the MSX has to offer. Then again, I need to pick up the pace and get the Commondore 64 games I want now available, but then once again, I don't have the money to get games monthly. Mainly because I live with my parents.
But the point is, I would love to see MSX Virtual Console's support, as long as not almost all games don't suck.
@Swerd_Murd: Insanely old arcade games? If we were relegated to that, all games would be before 1985. Which means, we would still be stuck with four games. But since we have been seeing games that were released after 1984, you are proven wrong.
Since it supports lock-on, it proves that Sega is supporting the Virtual Console. Hopefully, we'll see it in 2009.
But knowing how big Sega supports the Virtual Console, we'll have to wait for the game until Sega gets done releasing Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, Shinobi for the SMS and VCA, Golden Axe for the VCA, and R-Type for the SMS before we can get our hands on Sonic & Knuckles.

Re: Super Mario Kart Hits Virtual Console on Monday
This is great news. About time Nintendo give it's fan a game, it's been six months.
I'm sure the holiday will indeed be decent, with a lot of possibilities.
Re: Super Mario Kart
@Mario 34: Your prayer is answered. It's coming out this Monday.
Re: We Pray - Coming To A Console Near You?
I am a Christain and all, but this is no doubt the very worst idea in the history of the Wii.
If this is real, this is going to make Nintendo fans either laugh there off or get furious at Nintendo.
Re: Nintendo Download: Pokémon, Whips, Fighters, Bowling Balls, Robots, Intersections and Demos (US)
A fantastic week this time around. I really need to get my hand on Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures and the WiiWare demo before the latter is gone.
Thanks for a fantastic week Nintendo.

Re: Review: New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
@Luigi-La Bouncy: On the Youtube page, you'll see a lot of people berrying about the game and Nintendo in general.
Re: Nintendo Download: 17-18 November 2009 (Japan)
Nothing here for me, but we usually get less.
Re: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker Coming to Virtual Console?
@StarDust: Even if the game sucks, if the game is a big success, maybe this will encourage more licensed properties on the Virtual Console.

About time, this game I really cannot wait for. It will be very good.
It's suppose to be the best installment in the series.

Re: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker Coming to Virtual Console?
Many people are looking forward to this. Not surprising. Also, we need to support this game if we want to see more licensed games.
Re: Nintendo Download: Bikes, Frogs, Dragons, Bombs, Plankton and Cybernoids (US)
Excellent week here (Clap hands).
Like I said, don't expect two-game weeks to be standards, but this is indeed good.

Re: Nintendo Announces Wii Line-Up For THE WORLD
Lots of Nintendo games coming soon. Really cannot wait for most of those games.
Re: Konami Announces Planned MSX Releases for Japan

Very good and interesting month. Let's hope we get Neo Geo CD and MSX support too.
Re: PES 2010 landing on Wii in November
I cannot wait to get this game. It looks very promising.
Konami knows not to screw with us.
Re: Make Miyamoto Smile: Show StarFox Love
I've never played a Star Fox game before. Should I get StarFox 64?
Anyway, I would love to see an Wii litteration of the series. That would be amazing.
Re: Capcom Bringing MT Framework To Wii
That is awesome news. Just when we thought it couldn't get better.
Let's hope we get true mutiplatform experiences.
Re: UK Retailers Give Muramasa a Miss
It's sad when great titles like this game is neglected for more casual shovelwares. Rising Stars didn't do anything.
And what do you means by "Vote with your foot"? Do you mean "Vote with your wallet"?
Re: Excitebike: World Rally Coming To WiiWare
Do want, must get on release. Nintendo is defindently shaping up this holiday.
Re: Nintendo Download: Zombies, Ghosts, Monkeys, Axes, Royal Bluffs and Even More Sudoku (US)
Zombies Ate My Neighbor was questionable for an VC release and thank god it's out. I cannot wait to play the game. Stupid Irate.
Now Nintendo is more likely to release Earthbound.
(No Earthbound discussion here please)
Re: USA VC Releases: Cho Aniki and Final Soldier
Hey, I remember this thread when I was Super Sonic. It's too bad I can't delete those posts now, due to my original account being banned.
Oh well, this piece of news had the funniest comments.
Re: Cho Aniki
I remember commenting here as Super Sonic when I hated this game with a passion. Man was I an idiot back then, now I realize it's a good game.
Re: UNO
Does the game have Wii Speak?
Re: Sonic & Knuckles
Since it supports lock-on, it proves that Sega is supporting the Virtual Console. Hopefully, we'll see it in 2009.
But knowing how big Sega supports the Virtual Console, we'll have to wait for the game until Sega gets done releasing Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, Shinobi for the SMS and VCA, Golden Axe for the VCA, and R-Type for the SMS before we can get our hands on Sonic & Knuckles.
So a 2009 release in NA is questionable.

Online mutiplayer? I was already interested thanks to the earlier parts, but online mutiplayer makes this a must-buy for me.

Now I'm jelous of Japan. My 6th most anticapated title just released in Japan, let's see when they'll release it worldwide.
Re: Interviews: Square-Enix - Dragon Quest Wars
I have got to get the game on DSiWare.
Re: Free NES Game Offer Now Available!
I got Super Mario Bros..
Re: Nintendo Download: Winds, Warriors, Dinosaurs and Domo-kun (US)
Virtual Console is okay for this week, WiiWare is great, and DSiWare might be good too.
Not much for me, but I'm not complaining.
