@Skunkfish For me, actually owning the game matters just as much — if not more — than simply playing it. Key cards feel like a cheap and lazy way for Nintendo to keep a “physical” presence on store shelves without providing a true physical product, and it’s disappointing to see them push this onto third-party developers.
I get that PS5 games require long installs and lots of hard drive space, but the difference is I still own the full game on the disc—not just a “license to download.” With a disc, I can delete and reinstall as many times as I want without worrying that one day it’ll disappear. I’ve been buying and collecting games since the early ’80s, and a huge part of the joy is being able to walk over to my shelf, grab a game I’m in the mood for, and play it—without worrying about an expired license or a shut-down online store. Just last month I replayed Shining Force III on Saturn and Shadowgate 64 on N64. Why? Because I got in the mood to play them and I physically own them. The thought of losing that option down the road makes Switch key cards a hard pass for me.
That said, if you prefer digital for convenience and portability, I completely understand - I actually own several digital-only titles myself. But selling me a “physical” card that’s really just a digital download? No thanks, Nintendo.
This looks great... but since it's a key card release I'll be buying it on PS5. Same with Octopath. Same with Final Fantasy VII Remake. Same with Yakuza 0 and the upcoming Kiwami remakes. Same with Hitman. Same with Pacman World Repac 2. All of these games I would buy on Switch 2...if the game was on the cartridge but instead, I'm buying them, or have already bough them on PS5. Not trying be a troll here, but I think it's important for Nintendo to see how much business these stupid key cards are costing them. Games I AM buying or have already bought on the Switch 2 - First party Nintendo releases, Cyberpunk, MK Legacy Kollection, and Yooka-Replaylee. Why? Because they are all on the cartridge!!!
