Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?

Iceman9009

@KBuckley27 Because Gen 6 and Gen 7 used the same hardware: the 3DS. Gen 7 and Gen 8 do not use the same hardware; gen 7 uses the 3DS and gen 8 uses the Switch. The Switch is ridiculously more powerful and faster than the 3DS. People expect a similar graphical upgrade from Gen 7 to Gen 8, but Game Freak and Creatures Inc. did not deliver. They took an extra year to develop the game, to reassure fans that the game could be the best it could be. Then they release Pokemon Let's Go. The models are all the same, and the graphics look like an HD version of Gen 7. This was acceptable to most people, as this wasn't meant to be a mainline Pokemon game, and this was supposed to be a 'placeholder'. The developers had purportedly made this game to increase the quality of Pokemon Sword and Shield, so who cared what Pokemon Let's Go looked like? Then they revealed Sword/Shield a few months ago, and...to put it bluntly, it looks like Pokemon Let's Go with some extra shading and better particle effects. That was it. A whole extra year of waiting only for a bare minimum of an upgrade.

THE POKEMON DEVELOPERS REVEALING THAT THE ENTIRE NATIONALDEX WILL NOT BE IN THE GAME IS OK WITH ME (I DON'T WANT TO CREATE THE WRONG IMPRESSION), but the excuse they give to cover it up is complete bull. In order to save themselves time and effort, they've recycled the models and animations from years ago. I bet the real reason they don't have every pokemon in this game is to make it easier to balance the game. Pokemon is the most valuable media franchise in the world. Its games should be cutting edge, but its developers have been recycling a single game for decades now with some updates now and again to cover their tracks and only now fans are starting to realize that they have been getting cheated out of a better experience.

For those of you saying it 'looks amazing' or 'I love how it looks' that's partly subjective. If you compare this game to, say, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which as previously covered on this website has shown that only 40 people worked on it), you can see that XC2 pushes the Switch to its limits graphically while maintaining a more 'anime' art style similar-ish to Pokemon. While I like some of the overworld changes, the battle animations are absolute garbage, both by the Pokemon models and the animation of the move itself. Did you see the Double Kick animation that's been circling around? Seriously? This is a console, AAA level game and it results with that?

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Sold 1.2 Million Copies In Japan During Launch Week

@Likethepear There's a huge tutorial if you don't press anything upon seeing the "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" logo start screen. If you don't press anything for around 5 to 10 seconds (perhaps a bit longer), the screen reverts to a tutorial video. If you don't want that tutorial, just look one up on YouTube, there are plenty up already. I understand the feeling like pressing buttons doesn't do anything, my friend is a semi-pro for Smash 4 and soon to be for Ultimate and I get so frustrated sometimes because he seamlessly whoops my butt and I can do little to nothing about it. It takes practice in the training room and a couple videos on character combos and such to get better. I've started trying to take my gameplay to the next level with this method and I'm seeing visible results: my friend now just barely wins instead of 2 or 3 stocking me.
