@SakuraHaruka Same here with Sailor Moon Drops!!! I miss that game every day... I really wish they made an offline version of it, it was so adorable and fun!
@jtmnm Love this review, I'm so much more excited to play it now when the Special Edition finally arrives! Xenogears is my favorite game ever and XBC2 is my least, so I'm very glad this is a return to form!
I believe the biggest reason this is done is for consistency over time! Keep in mind that slang terms go in and out of style in the blink of an eye, historically — the government isn't policing anyone's use of language, it's just setting a precedent for itself so that in a hundred years, official documents make sense and aren't filled with nearly-forgotten slang terms. It maintains a consistency and authenticity to the language over time so that it can avoid some of English's common pain points. Many languages I know of have programs or at least pushes for this kind of thing!
It's kind of a tough concept to consider for English speakers because that language is an unrestrained (and lovable) mess of influences, but it makes sense for languages with lower speaking populous and more control to do things like this regularly!
One must also consider the cultural aspect, everyone speaking the same language sounds nice in theory but so much of human culture is centered in language. It's sad to hear about dead languages, some forgotten to time entirely, so preserving them is neat as long as they're properly allowed to grow within limits!
@icomma Belated reply to your first comment, I agree wholeheartedly! I'm glad your perspective is in here, not quite the same approach I'd take but it's nice to at least see some dissent.
@DeclanS98 Hey, just popping in to say your comments are appreciated and fair. I agree with you entirely, and it's sad that so many people shrug things like this off, or even idolize media like this that have such profoundly negative impact on the world. For the other commenters, of course we agree that the fantasization of violence is gratuitous and ridiculous, but that's not the point here. Neither is the point "it happens to men too so it's okay" — of course it can happen to men, it's just not a facet of daily life or a worry for them to be incessantly sexualized and objectified on a systematic basis. Neither is the point that it's "just one dumb horny game". It's thousands of dumb horny games that are apparently sell like hotcakes and feeding a very scary and growing economy centered around warped perceptions and generally derogatory content.
