What PSII did is kick FFII (Famicom) right in the face with its extraordinary storyline and presentation, excellent music and its insane lenght. For a game released in 1988, yes, it was FAR MORE than anything FF could ever do.
Seriously, Donkey Kong Country 3 doesn't deserve the critisism it has had over the years. It had the misfortune of coming out after the near-perfect DKC2.
But hear my words: DKC3 is just as fun to play, if not more.
I was kind of spoiled by this game...as it was so good that Ocarina of Time became my biggest gaming disappointment of all time by comparison (not that it is a bad game, but it's no AlttP).

Boy, I cannot agree more with the review. Sloppy, bad frame rate, the slowest Sonic game ever...
Simply put: It is both a terribly Platformer and a bad Pinball game...
