I've always been fairly neutral regarding Nintendo's approach to music and takedowns, but this is just unfair. Fan covers and tributes are morally their own unique form of art, if not appreciation.
I understand there's still an issue with legality, sure, but it's absurd to outright send a cease and desist notice in the context of a few isolated YouTube videos, and like the fine chap said, Nintendo could easily just claim revenue and have it benefit themselves in the process. This sucks!
I watched the Mario Bros. Movie last night. Dreadful, BUT, when an orchestrated rendition of the Super Mario Bros. theme played I come close to weeping, it was such a beautiful rendition, the best I've ever heard. It was such a wonderful arrangement. Being the only thing from the game in that movie is what made me weep.
I have been trying to do a lot of self improvement to get negative language and thoughts out of myself over the past year, but I will wilfully break that to say the donny who ran that account was a monumental bellend. It makes me a bit sad that the account wasn't suspended and has the possibility to be reactivated in the next month or so, this honestly could just be a big April Fools set-up to prod at people like me, but bloody hell I hope that guy pisses off for good.
I get their approach and respect it n' all but there's a certain degree before absurdity right? The obvious example is the Mario RPG series, particularly Paper Mario. This whole idea seems to relate closely to what has been said by people working on that series lately but like it's clearly different from the fan point of view who wants to see more experimental ideas come out of the series. Let's not even get started on Hey Pikmin and Amiibo festival.
