@rjejr I can't find the link but when the Classic was first released I read an article with a quote from a Nintendo rep in Japan saying that the Classic would not be a limited run product and stock would be replenished in 2017. However this was a rep from Japan, don't know if he speaks for NoA as well. I'd still like to get one myself. For the controller, I have yet to use an aftermarket controller that compares favorably to OEM. I hope that changes but so far all of them that I've used feel like shoddy junk compared to what Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft make, or even what Sega used to make but I haven't felt these new Nyko or 8bitdo ones. Hope they're good and would make good classic controllers for the Wii at least.
Grabbed it before No-Fun-Nintendo inevitably sends their lawyers after it, thanks for the heads up NL. Though I suppose if they do send their lawyers to shut it down, up to the torrents it goes just like AM2R.
@Dark-Link73 Nintendo has a lot to prove to the gaming audience that they want to bring back into their fold. For a paid online service to require that the gamer use their own separate mobile device for online chat, as well as only providing one game per month and having it expire after that month even if the user's sub continues, it's ludicrous compared to the competition's offerings, especially if they end up charging $60/year for it. That's stingy on Nintendo's part and the gamers will be right and justified in skewering Nintendo over it.
Specs matter somewhat, at least to 3rd party devs, Nintendo themselves doesn't care about specs but I think what matters most is that the Switch is a more traditional system in that it only has one screen and standard gamepad controls. I think some 3rd party devs are reluctant to revamp their game to work on a dual-screen system like the DS/3DS and Wii U. I think the Switch will solve that type of reluctance among devs. Devs don't want to adapt their games to work with a system that relies on gimmicks, they want a system that is easy to port their games to, with traditional controls and only one screen to worry about.
I love Mario Kart 64 and would've bought it for the Wii U, but not being able to use GameCube controllers on Wii U Virtual Console for N64, despite them having an adaptor, is a total FAIL on Nintendo's part. I'm glad I never transferred my purchases from my Wii to my Wii U, my friends and I prefer to play the VC of Kart 64 with GameCube controllers. Really stupid on Nintendo's part to not allow any game but SSB to use the GameCube controller adaptor on Wii U - really, really stupid move on their part.
I love the Wii U but I must say Nintendo really disappointed me in one key area with the eShop. Every Thursday I held out hope that they would release the Secret of Mana for the US Wii U Virtual Console because I really wanted to play it on the GamePad's screen with the GamePad's controls without having to use a Wii Remote through Wii Mode. Every Thursday for nearly three years now they have disappointed me regarding that. The Secret of Mana was released for the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console years ago, why can't NoA release it for us here in the US? Does it have something to do with it being available on iOS? Is it exclusive to that platform?
That feeds into a bigger issue with the Wii U eShop, the Virtual Console library has been pretty lame compared to what the Wii offered, much much weaker. Also, where were the GameCube VC games that Nintendo originally touted when the Wii U launched? Broken promises. Still, I love the Wii U, terrific first party games. However, I am biased since I love 2D platformers.
I'll believe it when I see it. My GC still looks beautiful on an old 56" DLP over S-Video, amazingly. You wouldn't think it would, but it does. I'll admit playing Mario Golf Toadstool Tour on the go would be fun.
Mario Maker on the 3DS is so great for the money, I'm having a blast. These morons on gaming website comment boards and so-called "professional" reviewers that gave this game a 4/10 and 6/10 obviously didn't play it. One of my favorite things to do in Mario Maker on the Wii U is to just play people's random levels in the 100 Mario Challenge mode when I just want to burn some time for a few minutes playing some casual video games, and this 3DS version replicates that perfectly. My only real complaint about that part is that you can't rate or comment people's courses, which is an odd omission that Nintendo will hopefully rectify soon. Granted, this version isn't a 10/10 like the Wii U version. Seriously this game was a killer app for the Wii U in my opinion, no other game utilized that controller in a better way. Still, I gotta give this 3DS version at least a 8.5/10. The only real downside is that you can't upload courses and you can't search for user-created courses by code number like on the Wii U version. That's certainly not worth calling this game pointless and half-baked like some of these idiotic pundits are doing on the Internet. Even with all of the Mario Making stuff aside, unlocking the challenges in the Nintendo-created levels is a lot of fun and to me constitutes a game in and of itself. It reminds me of trying to unlock all of the challenges that were in SMB Deluxe for the Game Boy Color. It really is true that you need to give a video game a chance and play it before you write it off as garbage. Had I blindly listened to you fools on this comment board and elsewhere on the Internet I would've passed it up and missed out on a great port!
Another disappointing week with no Secret of Mana. Nintendo knows how to disappoint us every Thursday morning. Bring us Secret of Mana for Wii U dammit! Wish I had an email address for Fils-Aime so I could tell him what games we want released on American VC instead of the same crap they've been pushing out week after week. Seriously SoM has been out for Japanese VC for over two years, bring it to the US FFS !!!!!!!
