Re: Talking Point: As A Nintendo Fan, Do You Really Need To Play The Virtual Boy?

@CartoonDan oh, that is sad! I can definitely see how that might have happened to folks trying it when it arrived. I came to it much later so didn’t have that expectation going in. Joy is the word I most associate with Nintendo - their games have had such a tremendous, positive impact on my life in so many ways. Hope you’re enjoying their lovely, latest joy filled machine.

@somnambulance I can totally see that. Because I love the sensation the 3D generates it probably bumps a point onto the games that use it well for me. There’s certainly nothing genre defining and you’d be extremely hard pushed to say that anything there is a definitive must play - I’m just glad there’s games that I do enjoy so I can enjoy the system too. Ultimately the experience of the console itself is what brings me the most joy out of it, if that makes sense.

@Coalescence YES! I wrote about it initially but had to trim the article down (I waffle A LOT) it’s a kind of middle ground between GB and SNES and has got some great tracks. The Mario tennis music has a sort of Super Mario kart vibe - if a little less full sounding. But because it’s so immersive and has that crisp sound with the headset it works.

It is a big oversight with clash, but it is a good experience nonetheless. If you can get to the later stages it’s frantic and thrilling and a lot of fun because it’s well built and handles really well. Love how they adapted the 2D gameplay too - it’s somehow exactly the same but totally different. Very clever. Typical Nintendo, in a good way 😅

@WaveBoy Mario tennis definitely isn’t as fleshed out as it could be but I do enjoy it. Amazing you found Jack bros! I’d be interested to see it make a comeback in the modern gaming landscape and what they’d do with it now.
Even the first boss skipping across the pond in wario land looks fantastic - it’s definitely the most well rounded experience on there. Don’t think I’ll ever get rid of mine.
