Re: Sakurai: Dual Analogue Control in Kid Icarus: Uprising Was "Technically Impossible"

AndrewOnett

@tat2

I guess I've gotten comfortable enough with my set of power ups to take a quick glimpse down and navigate it in less than a second during battle haha. Though I can understand your frustration.

I've never had a problem with the camera seeing as how tapping the L-Trigger (in my control scheme) automaticly adjusts the camera to whatever your character is facing. That is the way I have mine set up.

Circle Pad: Move
ABXY: Aim Reticle
L Trigger: Fix Camera
R Trigger: Attack
D Pad: Powers

I often find myself using the tip of my right thumb on the touch screen to aim and adjust my camera during gameplay while still being able to keep my index finger on the R Trigger to attack. Keep in mind that I also adjusted the sensitivity to make it work to my liking. I'm almost tempted to post a video to show my control scheme and method of play.

Re: GameCube is Ten Years Old Today in Europe

AndrewOnett

I remember the gamecube microphone and the gameboy player. I remember the microphone only being used with Mario Party 6. Even then we wouldn't use it the way it was intended for the minigames. We would shout random words or insults into the mic during the "Fruit Talktail" minigame and it would cause a random platform to fall. So if we shouted [insert random obscenity here], the banana platforms would randomly collapse and the other players would have no way of knowing what to expect. You can imagine how much more hillarious and difficult this minigame became while this was going on.

Re: Talking Point: Why Skyward Sword Sales Failed to Soar

AndrewOnett

I have to disagree with a lot of the complaints about Skyward Sword. I thought the controls were fun and engaging. Twilight Princess was dark, boring and stale, feeling like more of the same. Meanwhile Skyward Sword actually tried to make the player feel more involved in the puzzles through its controls. I loved the valentines day article about this game as well. I believe it pointed out a lot of other profound/groundbreaking changes they made in this game that made it far better than Twilight Princess.

Gamers these days need to let go of the past, open up their minds and welcome new ideas.

@rjejr

I loved Starfox Adventures and played through it at least six times. I will agree with your point about the graphics and voice talent but I also believe that everybody's complaints are a bit shallow.

Re: Sakurai: Smash Bros. to 'Change Direction a Little' on Wii U and 3DS

AndrewOnett

Let's just hope that it doesn't have an identity crisis like Brawl did. There was clearly more effort put into the subspace mode than the actual versus mode (which smash bros is all about) and it was visable by the way stages in the adventure mode had more detail/animations to them as well as its own set of physics. Whatever it is they decide to do, we can only hope that they find a good balance where the versus and adventure modes are both equally as fun and engaging.

On another note... Why do I have a feeling that the are going to elaborate on the sticker idea that they had in Brawl and apply it the same way Kid Icarus: Uprising applied their power ups for versus play?

So here is my crazy guess about how both versions of the game will function...
WiiU version will focus on a expansive story to collect stickers to build up your characters similarly to how Uprising works. The 3DS version will likely focus more on the versus mode aspects of the game, allowing players to port their data/characters over, unlock items/stickers through street passes and wifi/wireless battles.

Re: Talking Point: A Big Year for Nintendo

AndrewOnett

@warnerdan

I couldn't have put it better myself. The only thing I'm worried about is certain titles like Mario getting over used or other big titles getting rushed out as a result of the poor Wii U sales to try and boost sales during the holidays. We all know how that would jeopardize their products.

Re: Mario Kart 7 To Get Shortcut-Fixing Patch

AndrewOnett

@ metafaniel

It is mandatory if you try to load the games online feature. You must update to play.

I haven't touched that game in several months. I believe it is inferior to Mario Kart Wii in almost every aspect and the item aggressiveness is out of control. This makes the game uncompetitive and is more reliant on luck rather than actual skill thus making it feel like a Mario Party mini-game. I've only scraped the surface on the list of problems with this game and I'm not surprised that Shigeru Miyamoto wasn't satisfied with the development of this game either. Now only if they would patch Mario Kart Wii so those pesky hackers will be forced out of the community.

Re: Animal Crossing Tobidase Reaches Japan This Fall

AndrewOnett

Thank you for clarifying that, James. I would have been pretty bummed out if Tom Nook was gone.

I can't say im too thrilled. Hopefully this game doesn't become too convoluted and instead focuses on being unique rather than watered down with features that threaten its simplistic charm. This is why I continue to go back to Animal Crossing GC. I also believe that AC's overwhelmingly nostalgic soundtrack played a major role in its success. Hopefully this new game goes back to its roots.

Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising Development Landed on Wii, Briefly

AndrewOnett

@Mardt

Easy. It won't get pirated nearly as much as it would as a Wii title and it gives gamers more of a reason to purchase a 3DS. I know of four people in my circle of friends who download their games illegaly for their Wii console. I realize that piracy on the 3DS is a issue as well but it appears that it isn't as common and widespread as piracy on the Wii (mostly because it hasn't been cracked nearly as much.) The controls are a small sacrifice for players in order for Nintendo to make a well deserved profit on a fantastic game. Wise decision Nintendo. Cheers.

Honestly, I got more of a cramp in my hand from playing Mario Kart 7 from drifting and clentching my 3DS tightly during the extremely close races. I've never once had any discomfort from playing Kid Icarus other than my feet falling asleep when I prop them up on my coffee table and that has nothing to do with the plastic standee that came with it.

Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising Development Landed on Wii, Briefly

AndrewOnett

I believe the ability to customize the controls saved this game though I can't deny that using the wii remote and nunchuck attachment would have been far better. I've mannaged to find a control scheme that works for me where I use my right thumb to aim my reticle and the R trigger to fire.

Re: Miyamoto to Show Wii U Mario at E3

AndrewOnett

As much as I would like to see a HD Mario 64 / Mario Sunshine game on the WiiU, I'm almost certain they are going to do a 3D sidescroller like 3D Land. I hope Nintendo proves me wrong and unveils something amazing.

Re: New Trainers and Town in Pokémon Black & White 2

AndrewOnett

No new region to explore and no new Pokemon to catch other than a couple of Legendary pokes I can live without. Simply put, I'm not willing to spend $30.00 bucks on a game for a tenuous story.

Don't hold your breath too long... There is only so much the DS can do in terms of features to make your purchase feel worthwhile. I'll be waiting for the day gamefreak decides to quit playing around with the DS and develop a game on the 3DS or WiiU.

Re: 3DS Celebrates First Birthday in Europe

AndrewOnett

@Mahe

I agree for the most part. The only reason I picked up my 3DS was for Mario Kart 7 and that was somewhat of a disappointment. Recently I've been debating whether or not I should sell it while it is still worth something. So far I only have Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Kart 7 and Kid Icarus: Uprising and I feel like I've already put more hours into Kid Icarus than the other two games combined. Perhaps when Animal Crossing is finally released that may change.

Re: Kid Icarus Uprising Gets Perfect Review Score in Famitsu

AndrewOnett

@SuperNictendo
It's a pretty good game, I'll give it that. The ground combat is slightly clunky/sluggish and the story is a little on the short side in my opinion. Still a very fun and addicting game despite these little flaws. The multiplayer is easily one of the best things about this game.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

AndrewOnett

@hoboswirl

I really hope that it is a legitimately new game. We still don't know for sure if it really is "a sequel instread of the same game but with a different legendary." What I was trying to say is that GameFreak could have just named it "Pokemon Black & White 2" instead of "Pokemon Grey." Hopefully you understand what I am getting at and why the unceartainty is driving most of us crazy.

I appologize if it seems like I am upset. In fact, I am feeling the opposite. I really like these sort of discussions.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

AndrewOnett

@randomusername

Because adding "2" to the title is insinuating that it is going to be a completely new game when most players thought it was going to be "Grey" presumably (which most people were expecting in the first place and for all we know could be the same thing. The equivalent to Platinum.) As you can see, it has gotten everybody's hopes up while crushing others. You can thank the lack of information on the game for that.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

AndrewOnett

-takes a deep breath-

Okay... after sleeping on it, I'm over the fact that this isn't a 3DS title. HOWEVER, the ONLY way I'll consider putting down the money to buy this game is if they break the mold by making this a completely different game with a new map, new cities, caves, gyms, pokemon etc. but why do I have a feeling that this is going to go the route of Platinum with more story written into it? I mean, why not? Who ever said that they couldn't recycle the same map and set up a whole new chain of events in it?

So what is it going to be Nintendo? The same old map with new events and story sprinkled throughout? Or a whole new map with new events? We will just have to wait and see.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

AndrewOnett

@Retro_on_theGo

I understand that you like the idea of the story continuing, which is great. However, what I am waiting for is this series to catch up cosmetically. The idea of this series moving to the 3DS or the WiiU excites me not only for the improved graphics, but the possibility that there could be changes/balances made to the Pokemon's stats. Let's not forget the possibility to customize your trainer like in Pokemon: Battle Revolution or even the chance to hear music that isn't midi.

It is likely that this game will recycle the same map with a few bells and whistles thrown into the mix (i.e. pokemon and a few new areas/features.) Point is, no new ground can be broken, therefore giving me no real reason to pay money for something that is more or less the same.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

AndrewOnett

The best way I can show my discontent with this is by not buying it. This is a extremely lazy attempt at making more money with recycled sprites and models. Fact is, we all know this series has a lot to improve on that they can't possibly achieve due to the DS's limitations. With that said, I won't hesitate to pass judgement knowing that it is impossible for this game to break new ground. Greedy moves like this only makes the consumer question his/her relationship with the product. Nintendo better get their act together with this series, FAST.

Re: Pokémon Director Hypes up Sunday Announcement

AndrewOnett

Nibelilt, I hate to say it but you are 100% correct. Sure they threw us a curve ball by not releasing something like "Grey," but releasing a sequel to a DS game that takes little to no effort to develop? This is almost as insulting as when Capcom released Megaman X5 and X6 almost one year apart from each other. They are just recycling sprites and low poly models. Way to take advantage of kids, Nintendo.

Re: Pokémon Director Hypes up Sunday Announcement

AndrewOnett

Pokemon Party 13
X men Vs. Pokemon
Dynasty Warrios Pokemon
Pokemon Kart 7
Call of Duty 5: Pokemon Warfare

Or they could release information on something worthwhile like "Pokemon: Shadows of Unova" which would operate similarly to Gale of Darkness and Battle Revolution with its online features. Odds are Nintedo will save an idea like this for a system with the capacity to pull off this sort of thing. WiiU anybody?

Re: Feature: 3DS Games You'll Probably Never Play

AndrewOnett

"If a big company like capcom cancels a game in well-succed console obviously is because the game sucks."

Put the pieces of the puzzle together. Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom for unknown reasons. Capcom announces "unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met certain required criteria." Hmm... could it be that Inafune felt that Capcom was attempting to force him to take the game into a direction he didn't want and quit as a result? I wouldn't doubt that Capcom's reason for pulling the plug on many of the Megaman titles was due to Keij fleeing the Capcom scene.

Re: 3DS Software Struggles in UK Charts

AndrewOnett

There's simply not enough excitement about 3DS in the UK right now.

There isn't any excitement about the 3DS anywhere. It had a terrible launch and had a couple of big titles rushed out for last years holiday season that were compromised as a result. There is little to no reason to settle for less when Nintendo's next gen console will offer a breath of fresh air along with something a little less gimmicky.

Re: Iwata: "Wii U Will Be At its Best at Launch"

AndrewOnett

@rafaelluik
I have a strange feeling some titles will have their deadlines cut and rushed out the door. This is why Super Mario 3D Land was an appetizer compared to Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart 7 was a massive downgrade from Mario Kart Wii. Lets just hope they mean what they say about "learning their lesson" from the 3DS and actually release games that are worth buying.

Re: New Pokémon Game to Be Announced in January

AndrewOnett

I hope to god it isn't "Grey" (if that is even the name they decide to give it.) I would much rather have a game (similar to Pokemon Colosseum) on the Wii or preferably 3DS featuring GenV Pokes with online capabilities and the option to transfer your Pokemon from the DS cartridge.

Come on Nintendo... I'm getting tired of the sprites and N64-esque environments. This series really is falling behind cosmetically. If the guys at Nintendo really are marketing masters, they will take advantage of the 3D feature and pre-existing models from the Pokedex 3D and just use them in the new game. This will also give the kiddies more reason to pick up a 3DS.

Re: Join the Official Nintendo Life Mario Kart 7 Communities

AndrewOnett

I'll most likely join the all items community. Knowing that the racer cap was reduced, it will likely reduce the item aggresiveness as well. A race without items would be pretty boring considering that the items add a completely different level of challenge and strategy to a race. I just couldn't live without my fake boxes and banana peels. Watch out for narrow bridges >

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans to Fight Back

AndrewOnett

@TheDarkness
FYI
There is a difference between a complaint and a gamers preference.

"Once you beat most games you're not just going to keep playing it over and over."
"if it's good enough you come back at a later date and play it again."
Contradiction.

You are playing them over and over again, just not in the literal sense. While it is possible to sit there for hours at a time and do so is entirely dependant on the game and the gamers preference. You are just reiterating what StarDust and I are saying.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans to Fight Back

AndrewOnett

@TheDarkness
Yes, as a matter of fact, you can read the same book or watch the same movie over and over again. It depends entirely on what content you are dealing with. Some people like the short and sweet arcade games. It means that they can run through it and keep trying to top their new high scores each play through.

I can agree that some modes in certain games take away from the focus of what the game should have been focusing on in the first place. For example, the Subspace Emissary mode in SSBB is a completely different game from the VS. Mode, even down to the slowed down physics. You can go compare the two yourself if you like. They spent more time rendering cut-scenes and mapping out stages (which looked FAR better than the ones they give you in the VS. mode) rather than focusing on giving us more characters, items, a better fighting system and pretty stages like in subspace. Smash Bros. has always been a fighting game, not an adventure game. It seems Nintendo realized that The Subspace Emissary (Adventure Mode) should have been its own game from the very beginning, which is why the 3DS installment to the series is likely to be developed and marketed as an adventure game rather than a fighter (for the leveling up/personal experience to the game that Sakurai mentioned) while the Wii U version will be a fighter that you can port your characters to.

You are playing the wrong online games if you are complaining about depth. You may want to look into some MMORPG's if you are looking for depth instead of bashing FPS games. You can't really compare those two genres and expect one to be more like the other without changing it beyond recognition. Tossing massive amounts of dialogue, context sensitive scenarios or puzzles into a FPS would most likely cause a fan of that genre to get a refund on the game he just bought. Not everybody wants something complex. They like games they can pick up and play with ease.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans to Fight Back

AndrewOnett

@tendoboy1984

■Donkey Kong Country Returns (Fantastic game.)
■Kirby's Epic Yarn (Kirby Wii puts it to shame.)
■New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Great game.)
■Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 (Great games.)
■Mega Man 9 and 10 (Meh. Soundtrack(s) were poor.)
■All those Virtual Console games (?)
■GoldenEye 007 (Got enough of it on the N64.)
■Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Excellent game.)
■Wii Sports Resort (No interest whatsoever.)

I've played all of the games mentioned above, most of which require very little to no motion controls and for the most part could do without. Donkey Kong and Kirby's Return to Dream Land had the most replay value because of the multi-player feature. Till this day, Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl spend most of their time in my Wii rather than in their cases because of their online capability and replay value (mostly do to the fact that they are party games) while the others collect dust or get loaned to my friends to get a little more love after I'm through completing them. Don't get me wrong, just because I don't play most of these games anymore doesn't mean they are bad. I simply end up going back to the games that have features to connect and have fun with friends near and far.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans to Fight Back

AndrewOnett

"The 3DS...feels too much like the same old flame from the DS, but with 3D."
Thank you.

It sounds to me like Nintendo is trying to dig themselves out of a 40ft ditch by going back to what they've always done best, which is making quality games.

I remember buying the DS for Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing and Pokemon. I still haven't bought a 3DS primarily because their lineup as been weak up until recently. With more worthwhile games on the horizon, buying a 3DS may finally be a worthy investment. Not only for the 3D, but for the quality games. 3D alone doesn't warrant spending $170.00. However, more than 1 worthy game title does.

Similarly to the 3DS, I was sold on the Wii for the big titles, not the motion controls. Big games like Super Smasl Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii didn't require motion controls and are still the only two games I play on the Wii with the occasional PBR. I hope whatever newfangled gimmick Nintendo comes up with on the Wii U doesn't harm them any further than the mistakes they are paying for now.

Re: Two New Characters Take To the Mario Kart 7 Grid

AndrewOnett

Leave it to Nintendo to do something controversial to get a rise out of everybody and gain publicity. Personally I feel that Metal Mario, Honey Queen and Wiggler are terrible choices mostly because Metal Mario is just a clone of Mario and the other two are completely random like Petey Parana in MKDD. I'm certain more people would have appreciated the return of King Boo and R.O.B more than those two. The least they could have done is include somebody more interesting like Magikoopa. Whats next? Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U is probably going to feature silly characters like Goomba, Pokey the cactus enemy and Blooper as new characters.
