Animal Crossing 3DS has an official title and release window for Japan, those lucky blighters.
Its full Japanese title is Doubutsu no Mori: Tobidase. Tobidase means 'jumping out' of something, a phrase often used to describe the 3DS's 3D capabilities but which Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says also refers to the game's wireless functions, something he sadly didn't have more to say about.
Iwata did reveal several new screenshots however, showing off Tom Nook's replacement as shopkeeper, Kicks' new shoe shop, your mayor's office and a little hut outside. Maybe not the most exciting revelations to anyone who's not a big AC fan, but any new details are like catnip to series fans.
The game reaches Japan this Fall. Here's hoping today's European Nintendo Direct has some more information for us.

I just saw these screenshots a moment ago.
I squeed when I saw your character sitting in the Mayors chair.
Wow! I am so excited for this game! Release it already!!!!
This game keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to be the mayor. Also, it's good to see some new furniture!
Oh snaps kicks is mocing up in the world. and OMG I REEAALLYY!!! want this game so badly major reason I got a 3DS.
Looks great.Just got round to playing it for the first time last week, mostly down to you being a fan James making me curious, seriously haha.Although still to get going I was fairly annoyed at not being able to catch the biggest fish.No matter where I look the biggest I could catch was a Octopus,13 Kg behind the winning entry.I wonder how far they could take this when the Wii U comes out?It could be hugely expanded and have a full living online world where real world events come into play, maybe even natural disasters but leave the economy out of it as it'll take an age to get anywhere haha
C'mon already ... give us a date!
Ooooh, closer and closer. Hopefully we get it released sometime around September. As long as it isnt next year though I'm fine :3
this looks so good i want it NOW!!
Getting this. I don't care if it's a game about adorable fuzzy animals on their simple day to day life.
I'm getting this.
No matter what.
finnaly that stupid tanooki always ripped me off in wild world-.- can;t wait i love this game i easely put much time in it becuase it'snot hardcore/stressing but relaxing thats why it's so good i only hope you can now go random meet people online
I want. I got the 3DS for this game. Gamestop said it would be out last August. I've learned not to trust Gamestop on issues of release dates.
pre ordersites etc are always fake dates to make people go pre order and false exitement D:
Replace tom nook?
Shoe shop!?
I hope I get to customize some kicks...and of course James would be the one wo write the article.
If they would get rid of the &$%#$ rolling tube type of graphics I would actually buy another Animal Crossing game!!! holy cow are they going to do that when the Wii U version comes out also? so annoying!
Yes! Finally I waited since the last news was posted on January! I am glad Nintendo Direct came up now this game will definately be pre-ordered since it is a reasonable time right now.
I hope its early in the autumn, September would be good.
I know this is a crime punishable by death in James's opinion, but
since i have never played a Amimal Crossing game is it new that tom nook is replaced or did that happen in the last game.
James: Any last words Knuckles?
Knuckles: I believe Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best sonic game out there and own a Sega Genesis With Sonic 1-Knuckles, and spinball............
Knuckles: Is that enough to let me live James?
James: .............
Any information is great. I can't wait for this!
I'll pass. If they don't bother to include some good changes in this I'll just stick with Wild World. Which in fact I haven't touched in a long time anyway, so I don't think I'd be playing this for very long either.
Maybe when I find it cheaply sometime. If it includes proper online though, I might change my mind!
I like seeing the snapshot of the player sitting in the mayor's office, interesting. Tom Nook being replaced is mixed feelings from me, the new furniture looks cool though. Anyways, this game is one of the reasons I got a 3DS, can't wait
Nope, I'm the fricking mayor. I DECIDE who owns the darn shops.
Can't wait for this game!!! Soooooo excited! xD
It has a pink sheep in dungarees. I may have to buy two copies.
ugh can't wait this game is so relaxing a pause/break from the more hardcore games and some rpgs that make me frustrated:)
Playing wild world in waiting for this
@Knuckles It didn't happen in the last game.
Why are you even on this page if you haven't played Animal Crossing before anyway??
I really hope that the fall release date is for North America as well. Just like the new Super Mario Game. Plus, it seems to me that Nintendo would want to release these big titles before they force everyone to by the Wii U during the holidays. haha
Please I want this out now D:
Oh well... I guess I can wait a few months...
Sooooo.... The llama will replace Tom Nook?
Nice small amount of screenshots. I just hope this game hits Japan and US in September. If not that, then hopefully October. Plus, I like the idea of Nook not being in this game and having someone else in his place. It's like, give someone else a shot to try the store business.
The tease of the wireless features has me squirming in my seat. I've dreamed of such features since Wild World. E3 is going to be insane.
I don't know about Nook retiring as shop owner, but I still can't wait for this game!
Lol I simply told my friend this was coming and now he's buying a 3ds plus did that cat kinda remind you guys of bubsy?
is tortimer still alive or have they killed him off?
One could easily drown in all the swagger emanating from the player in the mayor's chair.
@Mr_Gurgles
THEY didn't kill Tortimer off... YOU(player) did!
How do you think you became the Mayor, anyway?
@AwesomeAddict I read every almost every article on the main site, and comment when I want to. I was curious if Tom Nook wasn't in City Folk (I think that was the last game anyway), because i've heard enough of Animal Crossing to know that gamers hate the shopkeeper Tom Nook for making gamers owing them millions
Need this game so badly... I guess I'll have to book 2013 off work then...
Tom Nook has been the shopkeeper in every Animal Crossing game yet, but in this one he's changed vocations and is now a real estate agent, I believe. Looks like he left a pink sheep in dungarees in charge (sales increase 500%)
Is this officially called Jump Out or are we just assuming because that's the translation?
I've never played Animal crossing at all. But, it finnaly caught my attention to look and want to try it out.
This is my most wanted game of this year. Please be coming this fall for US too, I will be forever grateful
Can't wait.
This will be my 1st Animal Crossing game.
Almost got the gamecube game 2 years ago.
Can't wait! drools over new pics My family & me were really happy about this news. Sure, we were hoping for the game SOONER (and not happy about the New Mario Bros. 2 news...), but FINALLY getting news about this, plus pics is great. And now we have an idea of when its coming.
It'll be anywhere from September to November. Hmm.
I'm hoping for September, but thinking that it might be November because A) November is the 4th anniversary of City Folk and B) the new City Folk DLC set is all delivered by October (Nintendo releasing it June through Oct)...so AC3DS could be out after that...
Hoping so much that they don't do that though! I want it in September! So does the rest of my family & all of my Animal Crossing friends. We are all in "can't wait mode" lol.
sigh
I never knew the joy of Animal Crossing until I bought City Folk recently
Now I'm really excited for this
Thank you for clarifying that, James. I would have been pretty bummed out if Tom Nook was gone.
I can't say im too thrilled. Hopefully this game doesn't become too convoluted and instead focuses on being unique rather than watered down with features that threaten its simplistic charm. This is why I continue to go back to Animal Crossing GC. I also believe that AC's overwhelmingly nostalgic soundtrack played a major role in its success. Hopefully this new game goes back to its roots.
Tom Nook has finally moved on to what he really has been after all these years...world domination.......best villian ever.

I think I just peed myself in excitement. Giddy!
Haven't bought an animal crossing game since Population: Growing, this one looks promising.
