BOTW in VR mode is actually one of my favorite experiences on the Switch. I’m not willing to give that up. And considering I play in docked mode 95% of the time anyway, I’ll probably hold out until the inevitable revision in 2023.
@AG_Awesome Chris did a thorough breakdown of the changes he made in a post on his Patreon blog—definitely worth a read. I wish I could review the definitive edition in light of the original release myself, but it doesn’t sound like it will be coming to Japan where I live for a while longer.
@dimi Realistically, if you live outside Japan, buying them secondhand online either as used goods or brand new from a dirty scalper might be your only hope. Amazon.co.jp and Rakuten.co.jp would be good places to start your search. Just paste "どうぶつの森 ともだちどーる" into the search fields and be prepared to get fleeced. Good luck!
Chris is a really sweet guy! I had a short but friendly email exchange with him a couple of years ago to ask if the version of his game on the Japanese eShop could be updated to include other translations. I like to play games in both Japanese and English, so it bums me out whenever there is only one language option available. He said he too wished the game could include every translation available but the decision was ultimately his publisher's. Still, he promised to raise the issue with them again. Although I hate the idea of double dipping, if purchasing the definitive edition means I can finally replay the game in English, I'll be happy to support him and his new publisher. I can vouch from personal experience that he cares about the people who play his games.
