New Pokémon Scarlet & Violet 7-Star Tera Raid Battle Event Announced For This Weekend

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's next 7-star Tera Raid battle event has been announced, and this one will see you taking on the fully-evolved gen VI starter Delphox first from 7th-9th July before repeating the following week on 14th-16th.

All of the information about this event was shared to Twitter by @SerebiiNet, revealing that the fox Pokémon will be a Fairy Tera Type and will have the Mightiest Mark. As is usually the case, this special Delphox can only be caught once per save file.

This is the first 7-Star Tera Raid Battle that we have seen in a while after a game-breaking problem with the previous Chesnaught and Great Tusk / Iron Treads events led to their suspension. Here's hoping that this weekend's return goes a little smoother.

That'll be tricky. Bring Poison types and it'll hit them with Psychic moves. Bring Steel types and it'll hit them with Fire moves.

Finally, was wondering when the 7 star raids would be back. Shame it's a delphox, but I'll take what I can get. Should be over in under a minute.

@RupeeClock good point. Initially, I'm thinking a non natural steel or poison type but with either as tera type to break the shield. That will probably depend on which of it's moves is stronger. Alternatively, some rush strategy

@Anti-Matter Delphox is amazing. Its Japanese name, マフォクシー Mahoxy, is a pun on the word 魔法使い (mahotsukai) which means a mage.

It's based on the myth of Foxes (kitsune) having magical powers and being the messenger of the goddess Inari. They were often depicted as being able to do magic tricks including controlling foxfires (blue fires that are common on swamps) and being able to take shape of humans.

Youkaigaku-wise, this pokemon is a must have, like Ninetales

Hisuian Goodra. The fire attacks would be neutral. The fairy and psychic attacks would be resisted. Hisuian Goodra also gets shell armor so it can't be crit on. It's got massive special defense stat and several good support moves like life dew and tearful look.

Almost, fairy attacks will be neutral.
Steel typing will neutralise the dragon type's fairy weakness.

Slowbro might be a top pick for this raid, it resists fire and psychic, and is neutral to fairy.
This all depends what extra moves the raid boss gets, they may have moves to counter water types like Thunder Punch, Grass Knot, or Solar Beam.

Edit: I wonder how well Armarouge with Acid Spray would work?

I prefer masculine looking Pokemon like Sawk, Lucario, Samurott, Ceruledge, etc.

If the fox creatures, I prefer Kyubi / Frostail from Yokai Watch games.

I'm very biased towards anything fox-related (obviously) so I'm super excited about this raid!
Definitely gonna have to figure out a good strategy, though in my experience it's best to wait until the raid event actually begins before trying to figure out what works best. Seen too many cases of speculating on what moves/strategies the raid Pokémon has only for it to be totally wrong when the event lands.

@Seraphmoon Legends: Arceus offers the most unique experience of the current games available on Nintendo Switch, making it a pretty good game. Sword and Shield are both very traditional in gameplay but don't look great visually. While Scarlet and Violet have the open-world aspect, they suffer from performance issues.

Your mileage may vary pretty greatly with the different Pokémon games on Switch, but of the current available list, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is up there. If you can look past the performance issues, Scarlet and Violet are also good.

Will have to do it together with my sister, her boyfriend and potentially one of our friends this week since the next one we're on vacation and it would be a shame not getting Delphox!
@Princess_Lilly Great explanation on why Delphox is amazing, but there's one thing I'd like to add as someone who studies Japanese: other than マフォクシー Mahoxy (actually pronounced Mafokushii, but "f" is an allophone of "h" in Japanese) being similar to 魔法使い mahoutsukai in the mahou part, the kanji 使 can be read not only as tsukai in native Japanese like in this word, but also as shi based on the original Chinese pronunciation so it's even more similar!
Oh, and according to Bulbapedia it could be also based on 魔導師 madoushi, another word for wizard/sorcerer, but there's no way to know for sure and I'd say our explanation fits even better.

@JohnnyMind thank you so much, the additional explanation in Chinese sounds pretty spot on!

I just noticed I forgot to point out that the delph in delphox comes from Phytia, a Greek oracle on the island of Delphos (I think, I dont have any evodence). But yeah you can totally see the appearance of Delphox as oracle-like

Edit- of course I remember now tsukai can be read as shi in ambassador (大使) for example. Thanks for reminding me

Yep, 大使 taishi is a good example of the kanji 使 read as (one of) its on'yomi instead of (one of) its kun'yomi. You're welcome!
