PSA: A Free Sonic Frontiers Demo Is Now Available On The eShop

@FishyS It's super duper easy to do. 5 mins at most. And very beneficial.

I was on the fence after the review. If I wouldn’t have picked this up at a deep discount over Black Friday…. A 15 min demo would have sold me…. 30-60min demo would be much better though… as I usually waste tons of time at the loading screen practicing my moves and forgetting to press the button to get the game going because even that is fun.

Would be nice if they release this in other parts of the world.

At least it's not as bad as the 3-mimute demo of Sonic Forces, also on the Japanese eShop. Seriously, you can play the first levels of both Sonic and the Avatar and a Classic Sonic boss fight for 1 freaking minute each.

Whoever decided to make that one 3 minutes maximum deserves a demotion.

@FishyS You can unfollow individual channels. For the main eshop guide, go to System > News channel settings and it can be unfollowed. And make sure the region is not set to Japan, of course.

You'll probably still see some Japanese news, but for someone like me it's not an issue since I don't use the news tab.

@HammerGalladeBro the demo of Sonic Forces was everywhere, not just the japanese eShop, i recall playing this demo and thiking the game is really this short? did the levels really end too soon?

@EliJapan i still haven’t finished it, I honestly thought it was a glitch or something, I was thinking It should have been done already! But to be fair most demos don’t do this, and they are still good games.

Not worth the more than 15 minutes it would take to make an account and download it just to play 15 minutes of a very "ok" game.

@FishyS this is actually why i love having a japanese account.. feels my switch is closer to the gaming world.... (i just hate i get american spam, which is often just a duplicate)..

15 minutes isn't even enough. It takes you 2 hours to one entire island to really understand the game's intent

Tried the demo, and it's not the ramshackle nightmare that the reviews I read implied.

Maybe because my expectations were lowered, but I've bought the game.

All the systems and mechanics appear to work better than they ever have with Sonic in 3D.

I'm trying to think but the last 3D Sonic games I played properly and enejoyed were Sonic and the Secret Rings and Black Knight so maybe 13 years away time has helped!

I referred to the Japanese eShop because that's where I downloaded it, it wasn't available on the American eShop when I wanted to try it.

@EliJapan that game is 4 times as long though. 10 hours of sonic frontiers is like, over half the game

@HammerGalladeBro @EliJapan : What's worse is that the 1 MINUTE demo of Sonic Forces was constantly interrupted by tutorial pop-ups (even if you try to play the level again). Thanks to the demo, the game went from "I'll keep an open mind" to hard freaking pass in no time flat. "Gotta go fast" indeed. Quite possibly the most aggravatingly pathetic demo I've ever encountered.

I’m looking forward to trying the demo. I’m curious. Free demos are never a bad thing

@EliJapan Not that the time limit couldnt be longer, but a demo in the first place shows way more confidence than any game that doesnt have a demo. Not that it's inherently a sign of confidence either...

Also, the DQ11 example is kinda funny because it is undeniably generous, but you dont really need 10 hours to know if a game is for you or not. The purpose of that much time is to create a sunk cost effect where you're more likely to buy the game explicitly because you've sunk too many hours into the story and progress to "let it go to waste". This goes for every game that hypes up "You can carry your demo save to the real game!"

Unsure why it takes an already-localized game to have a staggered demo release, but I already finished the 15 minutes from the Japanese demo (in English), so... strange idea, Sega.

@EliJapan You'd beat most of Frontiers with a 10 hour demo, on the other hand such a short time limit is equally stupid so I don't know why Sega are even doing this

Great, a worldwide demo release! I'm gonna check it out, I'm more and more convinced to Sonic after watching Prime on Netflix yesterday

Just when i thought i finished shoping games in 2022, sega made this move, i will download it and if its good, will buy it.

I went for the Xbox version after wondering whether the Switch version would be a good version to go for or not. It looked really nice on the more powerful systems that I didn't feel confident that the Switch could handle it. I've now finished the game and unlocked every achievement. I might check it out just to see how it runs on Switch, but it seems pointless to double dip

Played it in handheld. Ran fine, considering it’s a massive downgrade and played fine. Should’ve been 30min in my opinion, because it had like 7 min of cutscenes in the opening 15.

EDIT: For some reason I decided to check the Japanese eShop, and I noticed the Sonic Adventure 2 shoes DLC is being offered as regular DLC rather than needing to redeem a code. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the Japanese DLC works with the American version, which means you cannot get them out of the availability period unless SEGA decides to add them as normal DLC in the western eShops.

Will check out the demo! Hope i will like it, the gameplay looks cool

Sega needs to do a remaster of Shining Force III or Skies of Arcadia to remind everyone just what they used to be capable of when they had genuine passion for a project. I would include Valkyria Chronicles as well but fortunately it and VC4 are already available on every platform. They might not generate the sales numbers of Sonic games, but Sega's catalog of RPGs include some of the very best in the genre and have provided me with some of my most cherished memories as a gamer. Sega never seems to run out of hype for Sonic, but the end products haven't reflected that passion and quality the company was renowned for in a long time.

I'll try the demo, but I doubt it will convince me! The gameplay looks really frustrating. Maybe in a few months time when it's a tenner in some sale, but they'll have to do it around Easter because TotK will be my entire focus come May!

Anyone else having trouble with the blue emerald on chaos Island? No matter how fast I run, the monsters "tail" is always faster....

I own the game. It's actually not bad, I find it relaxing. I wouldn't say it's anywhere as good as Breath of the Wild and the world isnt as interesting, but it definitely has the sense of being able to run for a long time and explore new areas.

I should also say I'm a fan of those 'walking simulator' games that take place in scenic nature locations. So this is kind of a mix of that, a 'running in landscapes' simulator with some enemies, obstacles and collectibles thrown about.

I'd say 7/10

Why hasn't this released on ps5 or PS4 also? It's a pain charging up my dusty switch just to play this demo 😤😤

@huyi Maybe they're thinking about people like me. I would have bought it on Switch, but I was worried about performance, so I bought the PS4 version instead. Had a demo been available at the time, and it ran smoothly enough to allay my worries, I would have bought the Switch version.

Got the demo. Performance was better than I'd heard. Definitely worth a try. Will probably purchase for Switch in the coming months.

I have the game too and it's a solid outing for the blue blazer. You can feel a little too distracted and aimless in your exploration of the world. It is rather tempting to blast around and play around on the various rails and obstacles. It's interesting and very different for a Sonic game. You will see situations where you are playing standard sonic levels but it is more majorly about the open world.
