Sega has finally shared the first trailer for Netflix's upcoming animated Sonic show, Sonic Prime. The trailer also confirms that the show will debut on the streaming service this Winter, following rumours in August that it will be dropping in December.
Sonic Prime will star the titular blue hedgehog alongside Dr. Eggman, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Big the Cat, and we get a pretty good look at all four of them here, along with some action-packed scenes. The trailer also gives us a little glimpse at Sonic's new voice actor, Deven Mack.
We've had a very brief glimpse of Sonic Prime before, but this is the first real trailer of Sonic's upcoming 24-episode show. Now we have a better idea of when we'll be able to sit down and binge the show for real — one for the holiday season, then!
What do you think of the teaser? Speed on down to the comments!

In the winter of this year might mean this December.
I can't explain it, but something about the animation isn't sitting right with me.
Maybe the character models? Sonic Boom had stiff animations, but the character modelling and expressions were solid for a less action focused show.
Damn, Alana is on fire with the articles today
@RupeeClock Agreed. The environments also look quite lifeless. We can only really judge it fairly when it comes out but going off this trailer, I think this needed more time in the oven.
@RupeeClock For me, it's the backgrounds. They obviously stick close to the source material from the video games, but in doing so, this doesn't feel like a lived-in world. It comes across more as an in-game cutscene to me--especially those shots of Green Hill with the purple sky. Something about the color saturation makes it look like a skybox with a day-and-night cycle like I'd expect to see in Sonic Frontiers or something. I dunno. It looks perfectly passable for a video game cinematic, but for a full animated series, I feel like it will be much harder to pull off the suspension of disbelief.
Edit: @Kiz3000 beat me to my comment about the backgrounds by about 30 seconds, haha.
It doesn't look as pretty as the Sonic Boom animation.
I hope Knuckles is his normal height and not weird tall Knuckles like in Boom
I'm not feeling it. After Arcane and Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the bar for videogame based animated projects has been set high.
Why is this being made and how many times has the Sonic canon been rebooted now? At least the previous TV adaptation, Sonic Boom took the series in a completely different direction and made it more a slice of life style cartoon. This just looks bad and lacks the soul that any of the previous Sonic cartoons had.
Why everything about Sonic gives me 90's cheesy-cringe vibes? Like Poochie (in the Simpsons) kind of character.
Would definitely prefer to play in this world, than Frontier's..
.. what a shame this isn't a game..
Sonic fans definitely get treated quite well this year. I wish other franchises would get as much respect from the company as Sonic. Heck, Ubisoft didn't even mention the anniversary of their mascot. Sonis has gotten this year a film, a TV show, new comic books, a mobile game, and a big anniversary game coming by the end of this year.
Amazing. Sonic is succeeding in everywhere else, but the one place where it should matter most.
Looking nice, still waiting for the multi-dimensional stuff though.
Still like Sonic X better at this point. Since they didn't even give Shadow a sentence to speak...
Wow sonics being milked more than Star Wars!
Thank god the arms are not blue.
Don't know why but first I hear of this I thought it was a Metroid prime sonic the hedgehog. Kinda disappointed that it isn't to be honest...
@datamonkey its rude to speak ill of the dead
even in tv shows, sega doesn't realize 2d is the better choice
Ill give it a shot, even tho the animations looks kinda meh. I would love ot if they made an actual anime series or so.
@_fatto_katto_ "Why everything about Sonic gives me 90's cheesy-cringe vibes?"
The 90s was great. It would be more cringe if they tried to modernise Sonic too much.
I’m not really feeling this one. With all the other animated Sonic projects, either the animation was fluid or the show itself was charming. This one doesn’t really have either. For 3D animation, I think Sega should just go for something with more of a comedic focus, because I don’t think they have the chops to go that way in intense action scenes. 2D Sonic animation has been gorgeous as of late, just look at the Rise of the Wisps cartoon. This show just looks a bit flat.
Maybe I'm just getting old and missing some of the 'back in my day' things of my time, but I wish there more cartoonish looking cartoons as opposed to so many of these shows going the CG Animation route. I think some of the charm, character & vibrancy is lost and tbh it's just all too samey looking and prevalent today.
But I mean I'm not gonna complain too much because Lord knows the kids need more animation period as opposed to the current swath sitcoms and reality show drama more prevalent today... but I think it would make the medium more interesting if it was more varied in styles and looks at least (i.e. growing up having Kirby Right Back At Ya, Sonic X, DBZ, Tintin... but also Donkey Kong Country, Action Man, Beast Wars, Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, Power Rangers & Star Wars The Clone Wars in terms of varied presentation styles).
Edit: Cuphead & Castlevania would be good examples of newer shows with unique & pleasing animation styles that fit the source material and that aren't the typical CG affair we often see today.
... Wun can only hope.
It looks horrible
the voices are ok i guess
It looks fine to me but why do the voices have to be cheap copies instead of going for something new??
I'm tired of hearing Sonic sound like a fool.
I know it isn’t really related but, sonic boom was good, It did exactly what it set out to do, it was a funny sitcom, sorry back to prime.
I think the issue is that it looks really plastic like, like they look like figures com to life? And not in the stop motion kinda way, it’s off I agree. But the issue is that they also haven’t shown us much, I’m sure when we see it move much, much more, it will look great!
Sonic Prime just sounds like a Sonic game with next-day delivery these days.
Something about how they represent Sonic running feels off. I know it’s how he runs in the 2d games, but it just doesn’t translate well here.
Dude's got so much squash-and-stretch you could mistake him for Elastic Man.
@Not_Soos
Suspension of disbelief in a show about a talking blue hedgehog?
@RareFan
Frontiers isn't out yet lets just wait and see before we pat Sega and Sonic Team on the back. With their track record Frontiers has a higher chance of being an abysmal failure than a mild success
@Fizza I think I know what mr fantastic cloths are made of 😧
@steventonysmith
I'm not praising them... yet. But at least Sonic gets something. Other franchises are not that lucky.
@RareFan
If that something is as terrible as Sonic Forces, Boom or '06, Sonic Fans would be better off without anything at all
@steventonysmith
I would wait until it comes out. Only a few weeks to wait, and we will finally see if it is another terrible game or something good.
@RareFan
I sincerely hope I'm wrong but given their track record I have all rights to have my expectations as low as they go
@jameswarrensaid But Shadow's arms are still black.
The first episode will be 40 minutes? You know a show can be special when this happens. I hope it's as awesome as the teaser implies!
