The Pokémon Trading Card Game is always introducing new types of cards and mechanics, and the latest set based on the popular mobile game Pokémon GO is no different. This new series adds a Ditto card that is actually covered up by a sticker.
Serebii.net webmaster Joe Merrick explains how exactly it works via social media:
Joe Merrick: There's a new mechanic in the Pokémon GO TCG set in Japan where you'll sometimes get a card with a Ditto icon instead of the regulation mark. This top layer is actually a sticker. You then peel the top layer to get the Ditto card
A video on the Pokémon subreddit also provides a real-life look at this new card:
It's worth noting that you can't actually use the sticker in battle, meaning you would have to play the Ditto. What do you think of this new card? Leave your thoughts down below.

Wouldn't it stick out in your deck?
what!!!!!! thats crazy!!!!!
Here is the Japanese Pokemon TCG channel on youtube showing off cards from the Go set, including Ditto.

I would like to have atleast one unpeeled Ditto Bedoof. I like that Komiya art.
That is so cool.
It would be cool if the design on the card was just slightly different, like making the eyes two little dots refering its imperfect mimicry
Hopefully it can be peeled without damaging a corner... This would piss off collector's....If I learned anything from Mass Effect 2, don't mess with collector's.
The novelty seems like a bad idea, it's a headache for collectors who want to preserve the quality, and how do you enforce what's allowed during play? Is the Ditto version for Bidoof here a legal play?
Was using a hologram with bedoof and ditto alternating with lightfall a better option? Probably way more expansive than a sticker, but really would dig such a card.
This is the coolest thing I've ever seen.
@RupeeClock Do you really think they didn't think of the legality of playing the card? They mark the copy with a ditto instead of a regulation mark. You only get the regulation mark when after peeling it off. So Ditto is the legal card, not the copy.
On one hand it's kind of neat but on the other it's completely pointless and dumb.
@SteamEngenius Ditto.
Cute in theory; stupid in practice.
Everyone talkin' about it's collection value, but some people like me just wanna play the game. I guess it's ALWAYS been like this...
The more I think about this the more awesome it gets.
I’m surprised that it took them this long to think of this, but I’m also dumbfounded by how simply brilliant the idea is. What a cool gimmick. If I was a kid and I got a Ditto card, I’d lose my mind.
I really hope they make Ditto more frequently appear in Pokémon GO! to mark this card's release; on April Fool's Day the game introduced new Special Research missions, one of which requires you to find THREE Ditto! Outside of the event, Ditto are notoriously near impossible to find!
Alright, now we just need to do the same thing for game cartridges and discs to confuse the hell out of everyone.
I mean, all this actually does is make the unpeeled versions of these cards more valuable as collector's items. So yeah, genius move by TPC but actually completely pointless in game.
That’s genius.
@KayFiOS when i played they weren't that hard to find, but you have to focus on "boring" pokemon to get them.
ones like zubat, pidgey, and rattata, which we're conditioned to ignore.
Only kids will peel these. Not too many younger kids play GO - they don't have phones. So even less will probably be interested in this GO CCG set. Or with the premium cost - their parents won't be.
Man this reminds me of the Ancient Mew Card rumor that if you peeled it there was a base set Charizard or whatever regional hoax was prevalent in your area. Yes I'm old.
They can and will do worse, and people will buy it. As long as.... certain incidents don't happen again, I'm fine with this.
As long as it doesn’t damage the ditto, it’s kind of cute I guess. Reminds me of the Meltan marketing scheme.
I’m not gonna lie, that’s a genius idea. I actually love that.
@stinkyx I thought only collectors are after Pokemon cards right now, like they are so ridiculously overpriced, even the new stuff.
Sounds like these particular cards will merit a lot of value in the future if one were to maintain that sticker on the card.
will this be a real physical card?
Wake me up when they make scratch and sniff cards
@Pip_Pipston Why? Only one ditto struggled with the mimicry and did that, and by the end of the anime episode, it was able to turn into a near-perfect copy only discernible by its trainer.
@Dragonsoulj I just think it's cute. They've even made several plushies and figures of Transformed Ditto pokemon

@Pip_Pipston That's fair. Really isn't a canon way to tell, so I guess having something like this would help.
