The long-running Zenimax operated 'QuakeCon' will once again be a digital-only event for 2022.
Taking place on August 18-20, it will be the third year in a row that QuakeCon will be opting to go all-digital in the wake of ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, plans are supposedly in place to return to a physical gathering in 2023.
As mentioned in the statement on Twitter, more details surrounding the event will be announced in June, with plans to put together "exciting new streaming programming, online meet-ups, giveaways, charity opportunities, the virtual BYOC, and more".
With the event generally attracting around 10,000 attendees, it's no surprise that QuakeCon is opting to be extra cautious for the time being.
What do you make of QuakeCon going all-digital for a third year running? Are you ready to go back to physical events? Let us know.

I still hold out hope Bethesda will collaborate with LRG and serve up a physical release of Doom Eternal for Switch. The game and all DLC would fit on a 32 GB cartridge. Keep hope alive.
Fallout 4 on Switch plzzzzzzzzzzzzz
@Magician a complete version would be great. However, those eShop sales have been getting aggressive for the digital version.
Hmmm that's interesting. I thought the pandemic was more or less over in Western countries thanks to the lesser variants and vaccines
I’m here hoping for them to remaster the remaining classic Quake games and get them on Switch like they did with the first game.
Fingers crossed for more Quake games on Switch. The re-release of Quake on Switch is great.
Have to imagine the decision to keep up digital events is more a financial one than relating to any real health issues. Much cheaper to produce a video than it is to stage a show in a rented venue and deal with all those headaches.
At least in my part of the states, the only places still wary of the virus are hospitals and doctor's offices. Everywhere else has returned to complete normalcy outside the occasional mask-wearing individual.
No.
Its just cheaper to do it this way and you can curate it easier.
Hope they re release quake III arena loved playing multiplayer on that
@Browny Yeah that's what I'm wondering. Maybe the revenue missed from the missed ones causes a black hole in their finances.
Hexen remastered please and thanks.
It's understandable given the way politicians react. The virus is now endemic and won't magically disappear, so you'd think if everyone is vaccinated then it could proceed. It's probably easier to cancel.
remastered Fallout games for Switch plz
Quake 2 remaster please!
