Later this year, Sega is releasing Sonic Frontiers - a brand new mainline entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series.
Details are still quite scarce, but we do know some things...like how the game's narrative is being handled by Ian Flynn - the head writer of IDW's current Sonic the Hedgehog comic.
Now, in the latest development, Sonic fans have become fixated with a pink-haired human-like character that was shown in during the first episode of TailsTube yesterday. And some even seem to think it's got something to do with the upcoming game.
Apart from Ian Flynn who responded with the hashtag "knowing smile", it's got to the stage now where even the creative director of Sonic the Hedgehog, Kazuyuki Hoshino, has responded to fan art of the character.
You can see this mystery character shown during the first episode of TailsTube at around the 2-minute mark:
What do you make of all of this? Do you think Sega just teased a new character for Sonic Frontiers? Or is it for something else? Share your own thoughts and theories down below.

I have no idea.
Just wait until the next trailer explains more.
Hope springeth eternal with Sonic fans. Not sure how Sonic still draws a crowd.
Probably a SF character, but there is still a big chance they might be a scrapped character, or form another piece of sonic media, theres still a TV show.
Don't know who this is or who it could be so I'm just going to wait and see. I'm not overly optimistic for Sonic Frontiers but I am willing to give it a chance.
Remember Ulala from Space Channel 5? This is her now.
guessing rouge the former bat
Just make her Dr. Robotnik's long lost brother's daughter's niece's sister and retired the good oh doctor already. Had Sonic battle a new foe this time.
Exactly what the world needs. More Sonic characters for all the sonic fanboys to draw cringy artwork.
Sonic fans went crazy years ago.. like, in 2011 lol
Oh dang, poor Elise can't escape the glitches.
When I saw “character with pink hair” I immediately thought of Amy. Turned out I was wrong.

She... doesn't look very interesting. What is there to get excited about?
Sonic is finally retaliating for Crash Bandicoot ripping off their design 25 years ago and are making a knockoff version of Tawna, Crash's love interest from the first game.
@Chocobo_Shepherd
The Sonic fan base has devolved into not caring about actually playing the games so they lust for new info on what “Sonic’s World” means this week and new generic characters. Sonic Team not putting out a quality game to be proud of for over a decade now broke them so they’ve resorted to not discussing the actual game part, I’m sure this will change when the team that made even 2D platforming in Forces heavily automated tackles open 3D platforming….
@NintendoJunkie The best time in a modern Sonic game's life is the period between the announcement and release, before there actually has to be a tangible product lol.
At least she looks somewhat a bit more cartoony.
Elise looked like a Final Fantasy character who was somehow transported into the Sonic universe.
The Sonic movie had the best human companion for Sonic. Tom is much better than Chris Thorndyke or Elise.
Isn't craziness a requirement to be a sonic fan?
It's Amy's Human-Form. The Frontier is the multi-verse!
Not sure why we need more human characters. I miss new animal characters being introduced every so often.
@ShadowofTwilight22
Yeah i feel the whole generalization of the fanbase is an odd one.
usually when any franchise has been around for a long time and seen quite a few changes then there's going to be quite a lot of divided opinions, its one of the reason why it bugs me when people accuse any fanbase of "not knowing what they want" when more often than not the fanbase does its just different people want different things.
then again as mentioned before it does feel like a inevitable part of internet discussion, things get so broad that its often less a case of people debating things people have said and more people debating against vague amalgamations of many different takes.
@Sam_TSM I'm not sure if you're versed on the series or not (or if you even care!), so feel free just to ignore this if you're already aware of what I'm about to say.
Mobius was only a brief part of the series' history in the West. As far as the original vision for the series is concerned, it always took place on a fictional Earth, which had humans, like Eggman, and humanoid animals, like Sonic. Mobius was a concept in the American TV shows and comics. It wasn't a part of the games. I don't really care what the world is called, but I've never been a fan of the TV show and comic canons. From Sonic Adventure onwards, the games were quite clearly set on Earth (or at least not on Mobius). But even the older games blended both somewhat realistic settings such as Star Light and Oil Ocean with checkerboard-hills and giant pinball cities.
The first episode of Tails Tube neatly ties everything together in the way that SEGA always intended it, if you look what the creators said years ago. Characters like Sonic usually live on small islands, such as the settings of the Mega Drive games. These places typically have the more fantastical designs that the series is known for. Human characters inhabit the larger continents which reflect the real world a bit more. It isn't entirely cut and dry about what's realistic and what's not, but this just gives a bit of character to the world. Take Sonic Adventure 2 for example; you've got a major city that's basically just San Francisco, and it neighbours a region of pumpkin-shaped mountains and an Egyptian dessert filled with echidna statues.
I'm not sure if your comment was about humans, realism or just the name of the world but... the Sonic seriws always been had humans, some level of realism mixed with fantasy and Mobius was just an awkward product of flippant localisation. When people think otherwise, it's usually because they weren't ever aware what the series had to begin with.
Looks like April O'Neil
I don’t understand how Sega keeps these people engaged with the Sonic franchise.
I liked the movie that came out, but tbh I always thought the games were awful. Evey time I pick them up I have to force myself to finish them.
So I’ve stopped buying them some time ago.
Wait this is what the characters are gonna look like? Lol
@nessisonett Now I feel old.
BTW This is obviously the human version of Amy. You see in SF, we'll be seeing an inverse of the real world's "Fursona" trend where everyone has a "hedgehog/fox/furry" in-universe character, and the animals- including Sonic- will transform into some rather mundane human beings.
Calling it now.
Yay a new human love interest for sonic! I want this game to either be good, or sonic 06 2 but nothing in between because thats just bad
@CactusMan I've always seen sonic fans as kids who asked for an SNES and got a Megadrive and we're stuck with a crappy Sonic game while their friends were playing Mario, Mario kart, Zelda and many other great games. So you must be right. Denial is a unhealthy.
@Sam_TSM When? That was only in the comics and American TV shows.
@CactusMan Meh , I prefer the old Sonic. When there were actual side scrollers and stuff.
Fans be crazy sometimes..
Is SonicLife a new upcoming website? see a lot of Sonic news coming up
This is gotta be Amy. I guess
Probably a researcher in the hub / city area where you frequently visit for upgrades
@NintendoJunkie Guess it's kinda like being a Star Wars fan: you love it for all the good will the original work built up, despite most of the content afterward being garbage, you stick around for the few gold nuggets that come around.
don't care too much as long as they don't try to insert some form of inter-species pseudo-romance again or make her a navi, rotom dex, ect
@Brady1138 Well spoken. A very real comparison.
Next Sonic Twitter Takeover, that girl might join Sonic, Tails, Shadow and Eggman instead of others more deserving like Amy, or Knuckles.
Amy turned into human form for sonic to bone as a reward in the game.
@Chocobo_Shepherd You don't know much about the Sonic fanbase do you...
