Fun fact: there's actually a free version of Chocobo GP called Chocobo GP Lite (intense name I know) that's available on the eShop at the same time as the main version! I don't really know the differences since I haven't got it myself but it seems pretty interesting regardless! Do you want to know where I found this out? The Switch News app of all places. Who knew it would actually give you news?
Nothing of interest in the eShop so far for me this month but considering how many physical releases I'm getting, that's for the best. None this week though.
Chocobo GP's Prize Pass guarantees me to pass on this game.
@Fizza I believe "Lite" just means demo, here is the description from the Nintendo Page:
*This application is the free-to-play “Lite” version of Chocobo GP. It is possible to play the full game by purchasing an upgrade as DLC. Save data can be carried over from the free version to the full game.
*The number of characters available to play in the Lite version differs from the number available in the full game.
*The only online versus mode available to play on the Lite version is Chocobo GP mode.
*For local multiplayer games, only owners of the full game are able to create lobbies and players using the Lite version can only play by joining an existing lobby.
@Astral-Grain Ah, understood. The banner on the news app listed it as a 'free download' rather than a 'demo available' and there's a separate page on the eShop for it, but the fine print does make it sound a heck of a lot like a demo.
Nothing this month, waiting for April’s releases!
@Fizza It seems they did a lot of nontraditional things with this release that add a lot of confusion for no logical reason other than to confuse people into paying more money on top of paying $50 for a "full game".
As we discussed, the Demo version is called "Lite" and the full game is somehow "DLC" to this Lite version, yet there is a different application for the Full Game that costs the same price.
The paid version of the game includes 3 separate in-game currencies to exchange for items, many cannot be obtained without paying for a Prize Pass that lasts for only 70 days:
1. Mythril (Purchased with money) to buy Prize Passes, Level-Up Tickets, Team Stickers, Costumes, Designer Stickers, BGM
2. Tickets (Earned by completing challenges) to purchase Characters, Ride Models, Character Colors, Cosmetic Stickers, Wallpaper, BGM
3. Gil (Earned by completing missions and raising level) to purchase Characters, Ride Models, Character Colors, Cosmetic Stickers, Wallpaper
It's just too much going on for a simple Kart game and too much money grabbing. Never had to deal with anything like this in Mario Kart, which looks way better in comparison. It's just baffling.
@Astral-Grain It's Square Enix, at this point they've basically turned to the dark side with the amount of DLC's they have for their modern games.
@Fizza They're certainly giving Ubisoft a run for their money
@Astral-Grain What I can't believe is the Season Pass can't be used with the "demo" of this game, considering that element is very "free to play" in nature 😆
@Fizza You can't play story mode or make lobbies playing online with the Lite version. You can only join existing games.
@Fizza the only thing you can do on it is the tutorial race tried to get into an online race but you need switch online 🤷♂️
@Fizza @Astral-Grain
Boy do they charge. Even if this game were free I still wouldn't let it on my Switch if I had kids in my house. 🤑
@RubyCarbuncle I joined an existing game w/ the Lite version. I don't think there is anything remotely matchmaking in this game - region, level, whatever. Most of the names were in Japanese (I think) much like the leaderboard. I came in 8 out of 8, may have been lapped by everyone. 😝
@rjejr That sounds like fun 😅
@rjejr OH MY GOD 82 DOLLARS!?
where is .hack gu for europe?
@Fizza Did that price make your avatar's jaw drop?😉
@RubyCarbuncle I think it might be fun to watch it in reverse, but that's about it. 😁
Played the trial of Chocobo GP for about 10 minutes. Felt weird and stiff to me, so that uninstalled fast. At least it looked pretty decent.
At least I get to sink my teeth into the Monster Hunter full trial just before my NSO expires forever.
No Chex Quest for Europe/Australia?
