The latest UK charts are in and PlayStation continues to ride high with Gran Turismo 7 sitting at the top of the pile for a second week in a row, despite serious downtime and backlash on its microtransactions. Meanwhile, Elden Ring continues to show strong momentum at number 2 in the charts, cementing it as the biggest new IP in Europe since The Division.
The biggest surprise, however, is the re-entry of three Nintendo Switch titles into the top 10 charts. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and Pokémon Shining Pearl all saw a massive boost in sales, re-entering the charts at number 5, 6, and 9 respectively. Shining Pearl specifically wasn't even in the top 40 charts last week, so its emergence at number 9 is impressive.
Outside of the top 10, Metroid Dread sits at number 14 and is now the third best selling entry to the Metroid franchise in its history, and that's without factoring in digital sales. Elsewhere, My Universe: Puppies and Kittens makes its chart debut at number 37.
Interesting, this shake-up means that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe falls out of the top 10 for the first time in what feels like forever, coming in at number 11 - this is despite the launch of the first wave of the Booster Course Pass. The price promotion on certain boxed Switch games has caused a 20% drop in sales for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though we'd be surprised if the game remains out of the top 10 next week.

The top 10 is basically always 50/50 ps4/5 and switch. Xbox never breaks into it and even if you’d count steam sales I doubt it will enter the top 10.
Did something happen to warrant BDSP breaking back in? Like, the jump here is staggering (26 -> 5 and a re-entry to 9). I think BDSP are wonderful games but I know that a lot of people feel the opposite way so to see both games back in the top 10 is quite surprising.
@Fizza new update adds several events but I doubt that did the trick.
@Fizza a discount was available, maybe?
@darkswabber Excuse me but #2,3and 8 are all games available on Xbox and must be part of these sales.
The lack of Mario Kart and GTA is disconcerting.
Wait, Mario Kart even with the release of the DLC is not in the top 10?? Holy Crap!
Starts humming Aerosmith Some things wrong with the World today, I dont know what it is..
" My Universe: Puppies and Kittens makes its chart debut at number 37"
Yaaay...!!! 😃😃😃
At least My Universe games still got some appreciation. 😁
Also, excuse me...
I prefer Race with Ryan over than Gran Turismo games.
It looks cute anyway.
@Alpha008 A Pokemon game being discounted? Perish the thought!
(though somewhat ironically, Smyths have LGPE and SwSh for €47 each which is a shockingly good deal)
@Anti-Matter I was going to tag you to see if you bought that puppy game. You did not disappoint.
@Kainbrightside As long as Nintendo keep focusing on handheld/hybrid systems we'll probably be fairly safe in that regard as the whole always online thing just isn't viable.
@darkswabber I assume you mean Xbox exclusives because there are some multiplat games on this list?
For the Exclusives though these are always part of Gamepass so there are significantly reduced "sales" for Xbox exclusives as many owners will be getting them for "free"
@munstahunta like several articles have stated in the past on pushsquare about 90% of sales are on ps4.
Bizarre seeing the DP remakes make such a grand return. Can't just be the legitimate Arceus being added to the game surely
I think Tesco had a clearance sale of some of its evergreen titles. Gutted i missed it to be honest, still to dive into any of the recent Pokemon games since the 3DS X & Y games
Hey @Olliemar28 did we miss last week's Japanese charts for a reason? Need to have my weekly fix of Nintendomination 😜
@Anti-matter glad to see shovelware sales are alive and well.
@darkswabber Xbox appears to sell better digitally in the UK - still not outselling PS versions, but it's a bit closer than physical, but PS does have a much bigger install base than Xbox so it's to be expected.
Would be interesting to see the sales breakdown of a game across all 3 platforms, but we rarely see any big sellers release across them all at the same time.
The last Xbox games I remember appearing in the physical chart were Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 towards the end of last year, which is actually quite impressive given they were available day 1 on Game Pass.
After that disaster with Gran Turismo 7 last week I'm surprised it managed to hold on to the top spot at all. I'll say no more for obvious reasons.
@RubyCarbuncle
I’m not surprised. The casuals are buying it without reading the fine print.
And it really sucks how this turned out for GT7. I was really hyped for it. But I decided to wait and I’m glad I did. Unless they fix the credit progression I won’t be buying it.
@TheRedComet Same I was really excited for it too but the always online requirement and now the Credit progression being cut in half is a major red flag for me. I really hope they patch the game so you can play it offline but somehow I don't think they will.
@TheRedComet I think the whole credit progression has been massively over blown. I've put about 25 hours into gt7, have 40 to 50 cars, 2 million plus credits and no intention of ever buying the micro transactions. Nor have I felt the need to.
Yes the game has problems(server down the other day was a bloody pain) but when your racing and the dynamic weather kicks in there's few racers like it. Especially with the dualsense.
And I may be being naive, but I think they'll patch the single player needing to be always online at the end of the games life.
That F2P Gran Turismo game looks interesting, but for some reason it costs $70...🤔
@ShadowofTwilight22 three of the same IP [two of them being old games] in the top 10 is impressive no matter how you try to spin it
@ShadowofTwilight22 You seem perplexed that three games of the same IP isn’t “dominating” the charts.
