Dan Fornace's indie brawler Rivals of Aether has received a small but significant update on the Nintendo Switch today.
Introducing the Workshop Creator Pack - it's free DLC and is accessible right now. It adds the community-made characters Mollo, Hodan, Pomme and Olympia. They were first revealed last April. Here's the official announcement:
Once again, this pack is out now on the Nintendo Switch and is a free update on the platform. If you've not played this title before, it's a Smash Bros.-like pixel fighter. Here's what we had to say in our review about the game:
"Rivals of Aether is a deep and addictive platform fighter that borrows its base concepts from Super Smash Bros. and then runs off in its own direction, resulting in a surprisingly complex indie alternative to Nintendo's brawling behemoth."
Have you played this game on Switch before? Tell us down in the comments.

Been waiting for this for a while!!! Can't wait to get into Rivals again
I still need to get this, will probably get it on steam tho, for the mods.
HEY! Thats really cool!
I was so close to buying this game but when I read the single player is almost non existent and that all DLC added characters aren’t even in that one single player mode it includes I had to pass. Even an arcade tournament would have been nice.
I still gotta get Rivals at some point. It seems like such an awesome fighter with a lot of heart and passion in it
been playing them with my boyfriend and they're all pretty great! the horrible steam towel gorilla i thought would be the most boring of them turned out to be the most fun to play in the end
Keep them coming, even if it’s paid for, I’d really like some new stages. Not sure these are the 4 I would’ve picked but they are great additions anyway. This is my favorite smash clone out there.
Love it when studios let fan characters star in them.
Hopefully one day my HotGoomba can get into an official Nintendo game.
Nice! I completely forgot about these characters. Been a while since I played RoA but it's really good.
GOD BLESS DAN FORNACE
I've been waiting for this update for so long, and I'm so incredibly excited that it's finally here. I haven't been able to play much of it but what I have played has been incredibly fantastic. Rivals is one of my favorite fighting games ever (possibly even games period), so seeing it uplifting its community in such an active and encompassing way is genuinely exciting.
Can't wait til I can try all four characters. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the Aether franchise.
Looks awesome, a shame the physical release doesn't have this stuff baked into the cart though!
It’s so cool they’re doing this, I can’t wait to get destroyed online with these new characters
@HotGoomba your HotGoomba would have to be nerfed a little due to being to overpowered but its possible
@HotGoomba - Technically it's theirs now. Fans made them, sure, but TOS suggest they don't own the characters they create.
It's a safety net for Aether, as that would suggest lawsuits against them if they removed characters access if and when the game goes down.
Been playing them a lot, they’re a ton of fun.
