The latest patch for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic promised to fix the gigantic text box that pops up during combat, which it did — but it also added the option for players to cheat.
As noticed by Reddit user u/pipo198, pressing down the left stick three times will now open the cheat menu:
The cheats include giving your character feats, powers, skills, experience, turbo speed, or spawning particular items and a cheat bot. There is also the option to toggle "screenshot mode" and the flight camera.
Of course, the text box is improved... but that doesn't mean it's gone; it's just smaller and higher up:

The text box is a huge improvement - better late than never! Will definitely be nice for my dark side playthrough.
Cheat/Console abilities like this are a real game changer, especially in an old game like this where it's easy to back yourself up into a corner such as saving just before a fight you can never win because you mismanaged your skill points.
I've never been one to use cheats but the ability to add new powers should be able to get me past a section of the game that seems to have glitched and halted my progress. If I turn them off straight after that section, I'll feel no guilt. Especially since the game doesn't seem to be playing fair with me.
If I get in trouble for using cheats, YODA one who's gonna answer for it.
Modern Players: Does this mean these DLCs are actually free now?
Ooh, nice. I'd been waiting for a patch! But does it fix all of the missing audio barks?
Yoda's not above cheating. There's the famous scene in ESB when he and Luke are playing monopoly. It's a little hard to see but Yoda is clearly force stealing money from the bank. Gives R2 a little wink.
More single player games need to have cheats built in from the start…. I miss the days of Game Genie….
@Purgatorium is Yoda a 'tophat' piece kind of person or a 'shoe' piece kind of person?
Yoda or Grogu wasn't even born in the old republic era
@Purgatorium Worse than that, when Luke was trying to lift the X-Wing out of the swamp, Yoda was using the force to push it back down so he could flex on Luke!
@Astral-Grain Tophat for sure.
I miss the days when cheats were the norm, online gaming really put and end to it. It made frustrating games fun, if things got too hard you could just enter some cheats and enjoy. I think a lot of us forget about that when it comes to these old games.
This will definitely make it easier for me to get into this game again.
@CharlieGirl
I'm grateful you made that pun!
I'm pretty sure yoda's not afraid of cheats. . .just seagulls.
I’m stuck in a web of about 5 RPGs right about now, but when I get out, this game is next. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it, and I’m a huge Star Wars fan. Perhaps I can play this and the Lego games as part of a big marathon?
Another reminder that I should give this game a try.
I noticed this on the patch notes the other day, they even fixed the character chatter so they actually have one-liners during the game now. I love when they put stuff like this in SP games, makes replayability go through the roof after finishing the game. Wish more games still had stuff like this you could play around with.
That text box still looks ridiculous and should be removed completely. Not just made slightly smaller.
I literally made an account just to say...wow, I'm so glad Google apparently recommended this to me while randomly searching something about the game! Thank you for the info! Feels like I've found some grand secret code, except here we are on the Internet with a few thousand who have shared and posted about it! It's good when cool stuff like this is finally found.
@dimi yep, there is a member of that species in this game, but it's definitely not one of those big two we usually think of
