Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are off to a pretty cracking start, lighting up the official charts and sparking some particularly noteworthy moments within the gaming community. As popular as they seem to be, though, one feature typically present in new-generation releases is being sorely missed.
You see, just like fellow remakes Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the new Diamond and Pearl games don't offer an online matchmaking system. Online battles are possible through the game's Union Room by sharing codes or playing with friends, but for players who like to effortlessly jump into competitive-style matches, playing by their own custom rulesets, the possibilities aren't nearly as straightforward as they could be.
To combat this, players have started to spread the word about a custom password to be used in the Union Room's Global Room. The password – 6350 4649 – is being advertised by Pokémon fans around the world as a way to connect to like-minded players who are looking for competitive matches, and Automaton reports that the special room is "very active".
It seems especially active in Japan, where popular YouTuber Ashiki has been sharing information about the password on Twitter. The images below detail the etiquette players should adopt when entering this special room, noting that you should select three Pokémon that are Level 50 or below, that Legendaries and multiple copies of the same Held Item aren't allowed, and that people should feel welcome to stream any matches they participate in.
The Pokémon Company has previously made it clear that it intends to keep all competitive play inside Pokémon Sword and Shield for the time being, hence the lack of matchmaking in the new remakes. If you, like many others, are wanting to get that competitive experience in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, this may well be the best way to do it.

Same is true for the GTS since there isn't one. It's really inconvenient to find people online to trade instead of just looking for pokemon at the GTS. Not really user friendly imo
Also I'm aware they put the GTS into Pokemon Home instead but that isn't even compatible with BDSP yet. Also you obviously would have to pay for Home, then transfer the Pokemon you want to trade from BDSP to Home, put it in the GTS in Home and then transfer it back to BDSP. Inconvenient as hell
@Pokester99 1.) Gamefreak didn’t make BDSP, ILCA did.
2.) gamefreak announced when the games where announced that until gen 9 launches the competetive scene will stay in SWSH. It was know long before release that BDSP would have union room only and that legends arceus won’t have online besides mystery gift.

makes sense they want to keep it in sword and shield. why bother with extra work?
It's kinda funny that the games where the GTS debuted don't get it in their remakes.
@darkswabber So what you're saying is we already knew these games wouldn't be up to par way back then.
Wait you're telling me these remakes have worse online than the 3ds games?
I see the Pokemon 'fans' are still looking for excuses to moan hahaha must really sting seeing these games doing so well and realising no one cares what they think no matter how much noise they make.

@Meteoroid
Where did they mention Game Freak?
Also, no true Scotsman fallacy.
@AlexanderDaniels That’s a massive leap of inference that wasn’t even touched upon in the original post.
Goodness, I find that a lot of people who adamantly defend the DP remakes, haven't actually played many pokemon games besides sword and sheild. As a fan of the series who's played most of the titles, must say that the DP remakes as well as SW/SH are quite lacking in content
The SW/SH and DP remakes also lack a GTS, likely to push people into using pokemon home. Its no suprise that the 3ds sun and moon games online communities are still very active. Then there is the whole issue about dynamaxing and how its replaced the, signifigantly better, mega evolutions...
The newer games have some serious problems
C'mon guys, regardless of your overall opinions of these games, you have to agree that there is no good reason not to have online matchmaking.
It's a shame as online battles and trading is what really extend the longevity of the game. But now BDSP are "one and done" games, and sadly so will be legend of arceus
The removal of GTS from these games in favor of a paid mobile app is the ultimate slap in the face.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'll happily take "one and done" Pokemon games if it means we get meatier and more ambitious single-player content. Really hoping Legends: Arceus turns out well and is a success for GameFreak.
@Ralizah oh I fully agree, but pokemon games take around 20-30 hours to complete (main game wise) but with online battles and trading people can play for over 100 hours.
But, if they made the campaign of the games better story wise and take around 50 hours then I'd be happy, like most JRPG's now
For a Japanese speaker, 4649 is obviously 'yoroshiku', but I was puzzled over the meaning of 6350... Eventually gave up and tried searching, and apparently it's not a word at all, but the implied rules - take 6, pick 3, lv 50 or below.
Wait… you can’t battle randoms online like you could in nearly every Pokémon game before this? Oh… whelp, changed my mind about picking this up. It’s good thing Legends looks good because main series Pokémon games have been nothing but disappointments for me on the Switch.
Jeez it doesn't have something that simple in it? Man I thought it looked bad due to it being a remake, but lacking the most basic things is mind boggling. Incentive to pay for NSO is...where...exactly?
Somebody keep being salty with this game.
Dude, move on !
Do not sprinkle your saltiness on here.

The GWS (Global Wonder Station) in Jubilife City is likely some form of GTS, but it's not active yet. I'm assuming an update will follow sometime soon.
@darkswabber ILCA didn't decide what to include abd what leave off the game. Why do people think this? Everything this game lacks is because Gamefreak decided it shouldnt be there.
It's bizarre to me that people are still finding ways to blame GameFreak for this game when the problems with these games most definitely mainly lie with ILCA.
Ive been enjoying the game for what it is. However this is by far the buggiest Pokemon game we've had since the GB originals and that's entirely on ILCA. GameFreaks recent games, even if though some might view them as lackluster, had much more polish to them, particularly in the mechanical aspects.
The decisions made for BDSP lie with the developers and then at a high level, the three heads of the Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Creatures and GameFreak, but that's moreso general guidelines and services, not gameplay.
Like them or not, let's make sure we don't start spewing hate at developers, and try to be reasonable with eachother.
You are still better off with Sword/Shield for competitive Pokémon if you are into that.
Not just because of actually having traditional matchmaking, but because it had years to develop an online scene/wider selection Dex with the two expansions
Platinum is still the only good Sinnoh game sadly... inb4 they release something Absolute Platinum for Holiday 2022.
@Yorumi It was the Pokemon Company who contracted them, so I'd say all three holders are to blame: Nintendo, Creatures and GameFreak.
I'd say GameFreak is more competent than many tend to admit. Most of the games have a positive reception, SwSh was the only really truly divisive one they've made in the last 25 years. I think that's hardly worth the vitriol the team has received as a result. Every long running game series has had a game or games that fans don't really love.
@Fulgor_Astral I believe The Pokemon Company has the final say about anything Pokemon related, even what GF can and cannot do with the franchise. They are the ones pushing Pokemon for mobile devices with Home, Unite, Go and so on, so I wouldn't be surprised they are behind the decision to take those features from the games to be implemented in Home.
@Yorumi
I'm not saying you can't throw criticism at GameFreak, of course everyone is free to critique things. What I was saying is the vitriol towards them, is absolutely uncalled for. It's completely blown out of proportion and leaves a terrible taste in my mouth just mentioning it.
Can't agree with your statement that Gen 8 just looks like an upscaled 3DS game. There are some similarities in character model complexity, but the lighting engine and environments are far more complex than anything on the 3DS. The 3DS had all its lighting baked in, and the battle arenas consisted of basically 2d cutouts spaced out a different angles. Not saying Sword and Shield don't have issues in the art style department. The Wild Area is very inconsistent in it's direction, and the textures don't really land a lot of the time, but there are some very good looking areas. and I think saying it looks like a upscaled 3DS game is both disingenuous and lacking in technical perspective.
Xenoblade X is an extremely special game, despite it's differences from the first game and Xenoblade 2, it holds a special place in my heart and obviously has a very impressive engine as it stills manages to hold up extremely well even when compared to the more powerful consoles at the time. Xenoblade is definitely more advanced than Pokemon, but Monolith Soft is also an extremely talented developer, there's a reason why Nintendo hired them to help with Breath of the Wild. In fact, many Monolith Soft developers already helped with Sword and Shield. Monolith is much more experience than GameFreak in console hardware and in technical aspects, but that doesn't mean GameFreak is a "bad" developer.
"The only two possible conclusions from that are that gamefreak is either unwilling, or incapable of releasing games even a fraction of that scale despite having access to FAR more resources."
If you think there are only two possible conclusions, you need to broaden your horizons. The reality is that GameFreak doesn't have as many resources as many think they have. They have a set budget and time constraints just like any other developer. I think they suffered by setting too short of a timeframe for their SwSh, but once the franchise plans are set in stone, it's very difficult to put a hold on the entire franchise, as everything revolves around that game release. GameFreak has been hiring a lot more developers and working on developing their teams further, but that stuff doesn't happen overnight. They're not incapable, and they're not unwilling, they're just experiences growing pains. Speaking from personal experience, with new technologies come new issues, and as much as you'd like to think you've prepared for it, you don't know until it happens.
