Pokémon Legends: Arceus is getting rather close to release, arriving on 28th January to give us a different sort of adventure with our favourite Pocket Monsters. Its setting and time is already a fresh take for the franchise, and now the latest trailer introduces more of the game's cast.
We meet Hisui's two major clans, which have rather familiar names, and also get a look at the merchants of the region. You can see the new video above and some further details below:
As well as being home to the Galaxy Expedition Team, two other groups reside in the Hisui region: the Diamond Clan and the Pearl Clan. Adaman serves as the leader of the Diamond Clan and has Leafeon as his partner Pokémon, while Irida serves as the leader of the Pearl Clan, and her partner Pokémon is Glaceon. A group of merchants known as the Ginkgo Guild also operates in the Hisui region selling wares to Trainers.
In addition, players with play records from the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl games will be able to take on a research request in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that will lead to an encounter with the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai. They will also be able to claim the Modern Team Galactic Set.
It'll be interesting to see how well this entry sells - will it be picked up by long-term fans and also potentially tempt in all-new players? We shall see, in the meantime let us know what you think of this update down in the comments.

Lord, the music in the first part of that video is downright upleasant. Sounds like two tracks playing at the same time.
Still no voice acting? Wow. And that music…
For a minute there, I thought Irida was a costume for the female player character; it's a cute design overall.
Honestly though, I'd need to see more and read a lot more about this entry. Doesn't feel like it's adding enough to the dusty old Pokemon formula.
Would be cool if at some point in the game we could choose if we want to side with the Diamon Clan or the Pearl Clan and the other Team becomes the "evil" team of the game then
I wonder if there is some rivalry between two clans to make the storyline more interesting.
the brightness in this game seems a bit messed up...
Watch this game sale no where near the amount of the lazy remakes giving Pokemon company a reason to only continue the status qou.
This all seems like a phone game college students threw together for a final in 2012. Where's the production?
Having high hopes for the game! I hope they took their time and polished the game for its release
Adaman and Irida, huh? I see what they did there.
After the promising Zorua/Zoroark reveal, this is comically bad. Does TPCi seriously think that this video is going to arouse anticipation in people?
This is a terrible trailer! Why have they released this? It's barely revealing any information... the music is awful. It makes the lack of voice acting really stand out... and yea, it's just terrible.
Still excited for the game... but this trailer hasn't grown my excitement at all. If anything it's reminded me to keep my expectations down.
@RevrsblSedgewick I have had that feeling on some tracks since they released the remakes of red and blue
No voice acting and a bunch of character models just standing around in an empty world. What an exciting update - can't wait for this one!
Good lord, the music is awful!
This game continues to look... not great.
@Yorumi Probably being saved for an early January Pokemon Presents and then promotion ramps up for the full month. Given Square Enix is releasing 2 Switch exclusives in March, I feel Legends Arceus will be the last 1st party Nintendo title before April at the earliest so Nintendo will probably rely on Legends Arceus promotion for the whole of January.
The same trailer in Japanese has better music, with overall better structuring as well. Pretty mind boggling why the Western version is so much worse.
And yeah, where did that music track come from..? It should just go back into hiding in some remote corner of the Legends game.
Looks like Pokémon shield/sword 👀
pre-ordered and looking forward to seeing what they have done with this!
People complaining about the music as if Pokemon audio hasn't always been dire 😂
@Rob3008 pokemon, the franchise known for very good music, has always had dire music?
@illmatic20xx I love how people predict every new PM game will sell badly and then its a hit because well duh its Pokemon.
@Rob3008 Pokemon has had some amazing tracks, even the Dub of the anime has pretty good music. I mean the music from Gen 1 is widely loved as is Gen 4's music. The series overall is known for good music what is pretty well known in gaming, even now i can hear a lot of the tracks in my head from various games.
Doesn't look that exciting, I rather they just make another Pokemon Conquest game. The Samurai Warriors Pokemon crossover idea had me hook for hours probably way more than this and the main games.
I quite liked the music...
Between the name of the game being Arceus and the gsme bonus being Darkrai, I'm a little scared the BDSP event mons will be locked behind this game 😨
Why is Clay a gym leader from Unova there?
@RevrsblSedgewick What's wrong with it?
@Preposterous Why is voice-acting such a big thing all of a sudden? And what's wrong with the music?
@ThisisJosh Can we please not go the snarky sarcasm route? Why is voice-acting such a big thing now?
@Ralizah What's wrong with it?
@SpaceboyScreams I've seen phone games, as well as games from 2012, and this looks nothing like those.
Yes, this isn't as graphically impressive as other switch games, but it looks like a massive step up from whatever the hell Sword and Shield were.
@Yorumi To be honest, I really don't want voice acting in the main series. After seeing how it's handled in the anime, I kind of prefer they don't put it here, given that they'll just screw it up and force it onto people without giving them a proper choice.
Most promising trailer yet! But is there no voice acting?
@zander_dale The music was fine.. but it's not my favorite track. I swear pokemon fans are going to complain about anything and everything.
Where's the voice acting?
I'm starting to worry about this game to be honest... I don't know why but it just doesn't look at all polished. I'll wait for reviews.
This game looks like a concept, not something that is almost 30 days to release.. what problem they have with high res textures? This yellow/blue cap is really bad.
Close ups don't do any good to these trailers..
Even the clans symbol, why so low res?
@Yorumi You have no idea how many times I've heard the "most profitable media franchise" bit. It really doesn't matter how profitable something is. In my opinion, something as minor as voice-acting doesn't make something cheap. A lot of big-time video games don't have voice-acting yet.
Came here just to praise the absolute banger of a track in this trailer. Loving the synthey prog-rock feel. And actually seeing the comment of "pokemon music has been bad for [x] time"... really confirms some people live in a bizarro world from me. Music is the aspect of the franchise that has delivered MOST consistently. D/P/Pt was one of the best game soundtracks of all time and this sounds like an ambitious follow-up.
What I don't like is a Darkrai encounter being locked behind BDSP data. I skipped that game for a reason... bonus outfits are one thing, but bonus Pokemon and events is going way too far.
@mr-duster It's not even about budget or anything like that, it's an industry standard at this point and takes away from the experience, as voice acting builds the game's atmosphere. Imagine Animal Crossing without their silly gibberish language or Xenoblade Chronicles without any voices.
Music, as mentioned before me, just seems chaotic.
@Preposterous Well, the thing is that Animal Crossing's silly gibberish language has been a thing since the beginning. The core Pokemon games never had voice-acting. It's not like anything's been taken away from the Pokemon games here. Voice-acting doesn't HAVE to be an industry standard.
Woohoo! Actual legend encounters are back! I've never played one (Don't have BDSP) but this sounds way sicker than them just sorta appearing. I now realize I can't actually get Darkrai but hopefully other events like that show up.
@Yorumi Color and voice-acting are two different completely things. And you WOULD be losing something without color. It just looks better and more pleasing to the eye. And not everyone wants voice-acting anyway. And I'm not making any "excuses". It's not about "excuses". It never was. It's NOT a fact that it's "cheap and lazy". It's just one little thing. Voice-acting really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. if this game really looks "cheap and lazy" just because it doesn't have one thing you want, then I don't know what to tell you.
@Yorumi This trailer shows a new trainer who uses Glaceon as her signature Pokemon, I'm surprised you're not excited for the game. We certainly didn't know that from the reveal trailer.
They never show every new Pokemon and element before release because then there would be nothing left to surprise the player. Instead we get the framework of the gameplay: totem/"alpha" pokemon, probably around 8 of them. 2 rival clans likely tied to Dialga and Palkia. A bunch of "wardens" affiliated with the clans, corresponding to each alpha pokemon, who it also looks like you battle. A Team Galactic precursor you're a member of, who give you Pokemon Snap style research goals. A number of open areas you fast travel to like in Monster Hunter Rise. Item crafting. A new stance-based battle system with consecutive actions. A merchant guild who must be important because 2 of them look like Cynthia and Volkner. I dunno, seems like a lot of info to me.
@Yorumi I'm not "screaming or yelling", and I'm not throwing any fit when given an answereither. I DO bother to see what people say. I just don't always agree with them. I'm not "pretending" that's all they care about either. Obviously it isn't. But it's the top thing that people have been complaining about recently.
To say that this industry has "more money than anyone else on the planet" is dubious at best. Because whether we like these decisions or not, the reality is that none of us know that for sure. These games do not look "cheap and lazy". I know cheap and lazy when I see it. Whether you like these games or not, they all take a lot of time and passion to make.
@Yorumi Do you even know what you're asking?!? You've heard the music. Do you have any idea how obnoxious the VAs would be if they ever put voice acting into this?
A Nintendo game with no voice acting, shocking.
@VoidofLight I was exaggerating but only slightly. My class was making really impressive stuff 10 years ago. There's a clear lack of technical artistry in these games, making every character and cutscene look like a cheap and lifeless Check-E-Cheese production.
@Yorumi No it wouldn't. I'm going to need therapy just to get over having just imagined how bad it could be. I mean, Sonic VA is bad enough, and those are mostly top-top-top shelf A-list actors. Just imagine how horrendous GF would make it?
@Yorumi I get it, on one hand. They're technically a smallish indie-size studio that's only ever made one series plus a handful of indie type games, and they never really transitioned out of the 2D 16-32-bit era successfully. The original idea was a re balanced, more accessible SMT.
On the other hand, they literally have the highest selling video game series of all time. Even CoD and Fortnite don't touch their numbers. HTF could they not successfully transition from 2D?
I wonder, though, how much sales revenue ever actually goes to GF, and how much is just consumed by the nasty holding company of TPC and funneled to investors? Maybe GF really is a poorly funded tiny studio that makes pennies on the dollar while the branding bank monstrosity siphons the unending rewards.
@Yorumi That all makes sense, and yeah, I can't figure out how it's not possible for the games to be better even purely by accident. It's so low effort, I almost wonder if they're intentionally doing that because they're afraid if they mess with the golden goose in any way, they lose it. Like, it's the only game they make. How could it be so consistently mediocre? It's never really "bad" but it's mediocre and always smacks of low budget presentation.
I did actually like X & Y. They were a little simple but they were fun. I technically liked Sw/Sh, it did some things well but not enough, and it was so redundant I don't really need anything like it again for a long, long time. Maybe Arceus really is different, maybe it's not. It's so hard to tell. We didn't even get a Treehouse session out of it to see. Maybe in Jan we will. But kids will keep consuming it relentlessly because it's Pokemon. At this point it's like a cartoon licensed video game rather than a video game that spawned cartoons. It doesn't have to be good, it lets kids be in the world they know from media for a while.
This looks more like a modern unique region rather than the past
@Yorumi I remember I was excited about sun/moon, bought them, and......they're still in shrink wrap! I just never even played them for some reason... LGP/E was my next one actually which was....okay....and Sw/Sh definitely had fun moments, but it felt like more LGP/E distilled into just....some bloat? I spent a lot of time with it last year, so I definitely got some fun out of it, but its empty grind also left me not wanting more, either.
Arceus has definite appeal...I'm just a bit tentative. It doesn't need to be an XCX level freedom of world, per-se, I think SMTV is probably a good template (Considering Pokemon is a literal SMT clone from the start) though I admit the new SMT isn't doing it for me as much as past entries, and I'm not sure why. So far. Though I'd love to see a truly free and open XCX Pokemon, don't get me wrong.
But yeah it sounds more confined than they initially made it sound. It still might be great...but I'm very cautious because GF, maybe understandably, doesn't really take risks or ambitious games.
These new characters look interesting and they're in what seems to be the equivalent of the Ainu. One of them looks enough like Volkner to think if they're related.
I really hope to see new forms for Shaymin and Darkrai, do more than just showing them again! Also, that's how Beedle moves so fast apparently.
