If you enjoyed Harry Potter, but wish that you could play something more LGBTQ+-friendly, then Ikenfell might scratch that particular itch: set in a world where magic-users must attend a school to harness and control their abilities, but where something powerful is on the loose, Ikenfell is all about how friendship, trust, trauma, and badass spells can help you defeat evil.
Now, the turn-based RPG is getting a physical edition through Limited Run Games, with pre-orders starting on Friday, the 24th September and ending on Sunday, October 24th.
It doesn't look like there will be any bonus collectors' editions, but the cartridge and full-colour manual will cost $34.99 and includes a reversible cover:
This time last year, we gave Ikenfell a glowing 8/10 review, in which we heaped praise onto the accessibility options, the impressively deep turn-based battle mechanics, the diverse cast, and the "majestic" 75-song soundtrack by the musicians of Steven Universe. We also added Ikenfell to our list of "Best LGBTQ+ Games", thanks to its sensitive handling of teens discovering themselves, and its range of different gender identities.
Is Ikenfell on your must-haves for physical editions? Let us know in the comments below!

I still need to get round to this one. Harry Potter except not Harry Potter sounds like a good time.
I 100% need this physical edition 😍
Not only is the game an inspired blend of JRPG and tactics, but the art style is nice, the story is charming, and the characters are WONDERFUL.
What, come on now! Harry Potter is absolutely fantastic. My wife bought the first 3 movies in a second-hand shop a week ago and we have been enjoying them all over again. True works of love those stories.
Anyway, glad another physical is coming up. Too few publishers nowadays who do so.
@CharlieGirl Agreed, this is a nice little Indie game that's worth every single second you spend playing it.
I got it on steam. Its like Harry Potter but everyone and everything is gay!
So yeah, I'm down for that. Also very charming.
If you like Superstar Saga then you'll like this.
Argh! Enough of these super cool stylised splash and promo images for games with generic pixel art! I know graphics aren't everything, but it's disappointing every time! A game in this art style would be wonderful to see!
Thought this might have been about Witchbrook, which hasn't been confirmed for Switch (I think?) but looks amazing!
@Ogbert I agree, I’ll just get the Eshop version.
Awesome game but probably won't rebuy on physical. I wish physical editions would hit closer to launch so you weren't buying games twice.
@Ogbert - I think that's where I am getting my "Pixel fatigue" from. All the lavish art and once in game the contrast is sometime startling.
At least Inkenfell has a comparable style, Tiny Barbarian is an extreme example of the contrast.
I really still need to play this at some point. It's been on my radar for a while and it totally feels like a game I would enjoy
This game disappointed me.
Not for any actual quality issue of the game itself, but all the artwork for it is so fantastic and has this mystical, magical warmth to it that just drew me right to it... and the actual game is your standard "retro but not" indie sprite work.
So glad I was part of the Kickstarter! Amazing and charming game!
Yes, I was hoping this would happen! This is one of the games that's been on my radar, but I've been waiting.
My only problem now is that I'm waiting on tenterhooks for LRG to ship Bug Fables, and if I order Ikenfell I'm afraid they will wait to ship my whole order in one go. I really don't want to wait another six months for both Ikenfell and Bug Fables.
With any luck the first will ship out before the preorder window for Ikenfell closes.
Will skipt it, heard the game is kinda SJW.
@Tobiaku what does sjw mean?
Should've known...
Limited Run Games is doing everything right lately
@coldbrain Its a acronym for Social Justice Warrior. Its a term for a hypocrites who claim to want social justice while they just want to force their opinion onto others. And they happen to want to censor or just outright stop games I like from being made. Think something along what people for some reason call Karen, just not necessary white or woman. A game being SJW means either the devs are SJWs themself or pandering to them. So I opt to not support them or games I personally feels panders too much to them.
@Tobiaku thank you for explaining your absolutely baffling opinion in such detail.
