Welcome to the official #RuneFactory Twitter where we hope to connect Runeys from all over the world and post exciting Rune Factory content!
The Marvelous RPG spin-off series Rune Factory celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2021. It first began on the Nintendo DS in 2006. To mark this special occasion, the publisher has opened a new website - it's got fan art, a special user survey to participate in and there's also a Twitter present campaign taking place.
Along with all of this, it's also released a special anniversary trailer, looking back on the series entire history:
Back in June, the local launch of the latest entry Rune Factory 5 was pushed back to an "early" 2022 release on the Nintendo Switch. Here's a bit more about the game along with the most recent update:
A new stage, a new adventure! The curtain rises on the next chapter in the Rune Factory series.
Set off on a grand adventure in a fantasy world with the latest entry in the Rune Factory simulation RPG series. After losing their memory, the hero lands in a small town blessed by nature. There, they are recruited into a band of peacekeeping rangers, and their new life begins. In addition to their normal duties, the hero can farm the land, cast a line into the nearby river, and so much more! Team up with townsfolk to battle monsters and unleash powerful combination attacks—just one of the features new to the series.
Have you given the Rune Factory series a go over the years? Any favourite entry in particular? Looking forward to the fifth game? Leave your thoughts down below.

Cool! It will be a great year for RPG fans.
Had no idea the series was that old
One of my all-time favourite game franchises to this day, even despite somewhat superfluous experience with the later flagships and still none with the side games. Rune Factory arguably codified... if not the whole subgenre paved by Harvest Moon, then at the very least its heroic fantasy aspect - but the influence is felt even in more "mundane" settings like that of Stardew Valley. The original parent franchise had already been a groundbreak that allowed JRPG players zen slice-of-life routine of they weren't in the mood for dungeons and adventures; but come 2006, in an almost Switch-esque example, they could have both experiences in one and juggle them at will. It has only gone uphill from there.
Eagerly waiting for Rune Factory 5...
Can you be gay in RF5?
@Synecdoche You have my permission to be, but according to a reddit post in May it unfortunately doesn't look like the Japanese release of RF5 allows same sex marriage.
With the exception of Oceans, I have played and loved every Rune Factory. Can't wait for RF5.
I'm avoiding the series until gay marriage is a thing. Even Story of Seasons allows it nowadays, Rune Factory has no excuse.
@Synecdoche
Don't see how you couldn't be if you so wish.
Now on the other hand, there are any gay or bisexual marriage candidates NPCs in the game?.. apparently there are none.
@Synecdoche Nope unfortunately, but I was planning on playing as the male mc anyway since I like his design better. The new story of seasons allows it if you want to look into that instead. 🤷♀️
@kupocake That’s disappointing. Guess I’ll wait for RF6.
I remember Rune Factory being one of the first games we got for the DS, and we’ve been fans ever since. This, even despite some game breaking bugs, though I believe they fixed the most egregious ones for the western release. 2, in particular, had a game breaking bug if you fought the bosses out of order (as if you could figure out the order on your own). It says something, though, that my wife would spend the time to play through it twice, hurling obscenities left and right , and still enjoy working through the story again.
We need a Switch so we can get 5 before it becomes an expensive used game…
I've seen gameplay from RF5 and unfortunately it suffers from some pretty big framerate drops during combat and when transitioning from field to town. Hopefully they take this time to polish it up a bit but as it is...I'm not sure I'll get it. I recently bought Xcom 2 on switch thinking I wouldn't mind the performance issues but man... it's really a struggle to play when frames can drop to single digits in the base. I wish the switch didn't have these performance issues but now I always gotta make sure to carefully check games out for fear of getting stutters.
@Synecdoche it's not really surprising. Japanese don't really mind people being gay, but they still hold marriage traditions in high regard. meaning that it's between man and woman only.

@tyranny_life It’s fine, plenty of other games for me to buy.
@nhSnork You describe exactly why I feel so drawn to Rune Factory: that equal balance between game styles, between the zen slice of life gameplay and the RPG combat gameplay.
Between games like Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter, I always wish for a cozy experience that can meet in the middle.
Now I just really wish Rune Factory would support online multiplayer!
