We do rather like old-fashioned games with lengthy scripts and mysteries to solve, so we're definitely intrigued by this new announcement from publisher Microids. It's teaming up with developer Blazing Griffin to bring Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot: The First Cases to Nintendo Switch and various platforms on 28th September (retail and eShop).
As the title suggests, this is a new story that takes place right at the start of the famous detective's career as 'a young police officer and detective in pre-war Belgium'. In a classic scenario the detective is invited to a wealthy family's reception, only for a snowstorm to trap everyone inside the manor; you guessed it, a murder then takes place.
You can check out the teaser trailer (above) and some official details below.
- (Re)discover the legendary detective in an untold crime story, by playing as Hercule Poirot at the beginning of his detective career, when he still has everything to prove.
- Put your little grey cells to the test by using your deduction skills to connect clues together in your mindmap. The mindmap will allow you to visualize and link the elements of the case in order to draw your own conclusions… and shed light on the culprit in a surprising denouement!
- Solve a complex murder case and find out what hides behind the deceptive appearances of the Van den Bosch family.
- Question all the suspects and glean crucial information from them without their knowing. Pick up on all suspicious behavior as you uncover the dark secrets and rivalries of the Belgian upper class.
- Explore a luxurious house full of buried mysteries. Uncovering the murderer won’t be the only puzzle you’ll have to solve…
This could certainly be fun, we'll keep an eager eye out for further details. Is this on your radar for late September?

The ABC Murders was absolutely awful so this better be good as I’m a big Poirot fan.
@nessisonett Fingers crossed...
Nah but I'm planning to get the Pearl or Diamond remake that's coming this November. I had Pearl on the DS, might try Diamond this time around.
@Restryder Man, that literally has nothing to do with the article 😂
@Restryder ???
I wonder if this will be a bit like the Sherlock Holmes games? I really enjoyed those... especially the Jack The Ripper one... that was excellent, I thought.
I've already got the ABC Murders and it's average at best... Hope this game is an improvement since I've been longing for a good-ass quest-adventure game since I've beaten all the Syberia stuff.
@nessisonett i dunno why, i was meant to put this comment here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/07/poll_pokemon_unite_is_imminent_but_divisive_-_are_you_planning_to_try_it
But i dunno what happened. Oh well
Maybe you’re hoping for a Poirot-Pokemon mashup game? Gotta question ‘em all!
I think I'll stick to the novels. Which is your favorite, @nessisonett? I think "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" is the best one.
@MathGeekDave lol yeah
@Quarth I really like Dead Man’s Folly. The adaptation was decent too but the book is definitely one of the better ones. Great twists, an interesting cast and all in the middle of a murder hunt!
The Big Four was good. As far as the screen adaptions are concerned David Suchet is awesome. I also really liked Kenneth Branagh‘s performance as well. Really looking forward to Death on the Nile.
I've recently been watching the old films on BrittBox. Super excited for this.
@MathGeekDave Poirot-Pokemon mashup sounds like a really cool idea. You could have Pikachu act as the detect— oh, wait.
@nessisonett That's a good one! I think I've read most of the Hercule Poirot novels by now. Some of them are great, some are OK.
@Sourcecode I got the big four with me right now on vacation! I thought it was once of the lesser ones, so I paired it with why didn't they ask Evans.
(I've read almost all of them. So my last batch always alternates between one everyone likes and one everyone dislikes! )
@NickFalk oh yhea 😂🤣
@nessisonett I still have to read that one! Ariadne is probably my favorite character!
Glad there's still great ones in my final 10 Christie's! ❤️
@Quarth one of the book blurbs ruined the twist of that one for me! I'm so bummed out I don't get to experience that particular Christie moment!
This looks better than all the Christie games before it! I'm in! ❤️❤️
@garfreek Really!? That sucks! One of Christies best plot twists...
The last Agatha Chrstie I liked was for Wii, And Then There Were None. Haven't touch the series since unfortunately.
Why can't Level-5 do official license Agatha Christie video games? I would love the see characters from Poirot and Miss Marple series in the Professor Layton art style. Also I would Level-5 do video games set in the Jeeves & Wooster series.
This looks really promising. So hopefully it is good. Microids publish some great (usually a little niche) games. Love 'em!
