Following on from Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin's one million sales milestone earlier this month, developer Edelweiss has rolled out a brand new update across all platforms including the Switch.
It gives players the ability to hold a dog and cat at the same time. In addition to this, your dog will now also come running to greet you when you return home from an adventure.
This update also includes a number of balancing adjustments and improvements to keep more seasoned players coming back for more. There are new language support options for Latin American Spanish and Simplified Chinese, too.
Will you be returning to Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin to pet the dog and the cat at the same time? Leave a comment down below.

This game just gets better and better.
I love this game so much. Still working through all the recipes and armor/weapons and maxing my exploration lv. Still trying to get to the bottom of the shrine.
Anybody know what the max level is for rice? I am lv 64.
May the Revered Ears grow forever bountiful.
Im now really interested in this game. Thanks for sharing Mr. Doolan.
I just bought this earlier today. Can't wait for its delivery!
As a huge fan of Rune Factory, and The Demon Blade, I've really, really, really wanted to enjoy this game. I'm hoping one of these days it clicks, but - as it stands - the (ultra realistic and complex but barely explained) farming of rice just isn't fun. And sadly, that detracts a lot of the overall experience.
Maybe wielding dogs and cats will help tho. Guess we'll see!
My physical copy just showed up today - I'll definitely crack it open after Metroid
@Andy_Witmyer You can leave the tasks to others at the cost of your control over your crop and the farming has its own difficulty setting. The farming gets easier but if it just isn’t your cup of tea you don’t have to do it.
Granted once you can meet with Tauemon you get more information about the rice as well as tips. You can even pray to alter the weather. A few people have done YouTube tutorials as well. It’s more about what you want from you crop that decides how you farm it. The farming mechanics are pretty versatile.
OMG! BEST UPDATE EVER.... I WANT A VILLAGE OF DOGS AND CATS!
This feels like the apex of video game design. And I'm not even confident how humorous I'm being here.
I'm literally just before the final stage. I love both the fighting and farming gameplay loops, but I do think it's slightly let down by some of the story held back by fetch quests for bamboo or something for a duck pen.
This will be a good kick to get back into it. It was very charming but got crowded out by a few bigger titles coming out and taking my attention.
Still have to play this one.
I'll probably play this on my PS5 soon. I just haven't got around to it yet. Looks amazing!
@Andy_Witmyer yeah, I also wanted desperately to love this game and everything was in place for me to fall head over heels - Japanese setting, beautiful graphics, interesting mix of gameplay styles.
Sadly it’s the first game in maybe five years that I’ve stopped playing and acknowledge I’ll never go back to it. Put seven hours in and each felt like a slog until I finally decided that I couldn’t do another however many hours with the game.
The farming wasn’t explained very well and I didn’t want to let the NPCs take over that aspect as I felt I’d be missing a big chunk of game. The platforming also felt really clunky and I had no fun exploring the areas.
A real shame but it really wasn’t clicking. The plus side is, I went back to BotW for the first time since its release and I’m enjoying that more now than I ever have!
This game did have a learning curve and for some (even myself at times) it gets confusing. Overall though I encourage anyone who's interested to PLAY THIS GAME. I fell in love with it after the first level. I sunk about 125 hours into it and did some of the post game stuff. This game can be extremely difficult post game but overall it's a great game and was def on my top 5 list of last year.
I don't like farming simulation, but this game always had my interest, and now it has my attention... "my" dogs are all of a size that requires four hands to carry, only I can carry them with two hands (because of trust, not because I'm supernaturally strong. Although, I'd call trust a superpower nowadays, but it's still a natural one).
Just need an update that brings it to Xbox and gamepass now. I'm interested in this game, just not enough to actually spend money on it.
@Mr-Fuggles777 lmao but same. I’m not the biggest platforming fan but I’d try it out if it came to gamepass
Ok tried the update. The puppy is like “PET ME! DO IT NAO!” What goddess can resist?
I just got this game recently and am enjoying it, but there are definitely improvements that could be made. Maybe the devs read this site, so I’ll list my thoughts:
Probably sounds like nitpicking, but I really like the game and find it very addictive. These little things do hold it back a bit however.
